CURRENT STATE OF THINGS

Pollution Map

South East Asia has the largest numbers of polluted sites

According to Blacksmith Institute’s database, there are 100 battery recycling plants in South East Asia. This can potentially put one million people at risk.

CURRENT STATE OF THINGS

Pollution Map

The Philippines stands out as the most polluted country in the World

According to Blacksmith Institute’s database, there are 100 battery recycling plants in South East Asia. This can potentially put one million people at risk.

CURRENT HANDLING OF LEAD CONTAMINATED ACID

- Total absence of protection - Lead contaminated acid is directly released in our environment

Page 7: Ecoglobal Foundation - Jean-Philippe Henry

CURRENT HANDLING OF LEAD CONTAMINATED CASE

- After extraction of the lead plates and connectors, the lead contaminated batteries cases are discarded in our environment.

CURRENT HANDLING OF LEAD SMELTING

-Total absence of protection -Total absence of equipment

• No exaust • No cooler • No filter

-Lead is directly released in our environment

CURRENT HANDLING OF LEAD SMELTING

-This kid is exposed to very high levels of lead is at risk for:

• Comas • Convulsions • Death

DALY

Disability-Adjusted Life Year (DALY) Measure of overall disease burden expressed as a number of years lost due to:

• Ill-health • Disability • Early death

Years of Life Lost (YLL) + Years Lived with Disability (YLD) = DALY

Page 11: Ecoglobal Foundation - Jean-Philippe Henry

CURRENT HANDLING OF LEAD SMELTING A small town outside Manila contains a closed battery manufacturing plant and ULAB recycling facility.

• The 15000 affected people in this town will have a collective 319817 years lost to death, or impacted by disease or disability.

• Equal to 21 years lost or lived with a disability per person.

CONSEQUENCES OF LEAD POISONING

Illnesses and Disabilities • Decreased IQ • Autism • Infertility • Comas • Renal damage • Hypertension • Cardiac toxicity • Nevous system disorders • Death

THE SOLUTION

• Acid neutralized • Caustic Soda • Smoke capture • Exhaust • Cooler • Filter

NOT ONLY THE EQUIPMENT SHOULD MEET THE DENR

REQUIREMENTS. WE MUST BE DETERMINED TO ACHIEVE PERFECTION FOR OUR

ENVIRONMENT

GOALS

Ecoglobal plans to invest more and look into expanding our operations so that we can achieve the following goals:

Promote more responsible treatment and disposal of used batteries;

Build more recycling facilities that are at par with European industry standards;

Establish a foundation that will give assistance and support to people who have acquired illnesses due to lead acid pollution.
