The Eco-Schools Programme has since the start in 1993 proved to be a very successful programme. Although the Programme was invented in Denmark to suit the conditions and challenges in Danish schools, the Programme quickly showed to be applicable to schools all over Europe. After the enlargement of FEE to non-European countries, the Eco-Schools Programme was adapted to suit very different conditions. Today, the Programme is very popular in countries such as South Africa and Kenya, where poverty-fighting as added component has given the participation in the Eco-Schools Programme a significant change for the involved schools. Also China with their potential of one million schools has now joined the Eco- Schools Programme. Today, FEE member organisations in 46 countries are working with the Eco-Schools Programme. In Romania “Centrul Carpato-Danubian de Geoecologie” (CCDG) has very successfully implemented the Eco-Schools Programme. The Programme is now celebrating 10 years of existence in Romania.
