ECO-DISPOSABLE TABLEWARE from the FJMC
Reduce your trash profile with biocompostable and biodegradable tableware.
Purchase enough for one event to start – invite a bar/bat mitzvah family to add this special feature.
Eco-Savings from the FJMC with one less middle-man -- We are providing two wholesale resources for tableware that can save you money and reduce your petroleum footprint. You will be setting up
corporate accounts so expect a bit of red tape.
Put your synagogue on the path to a healthier environment with help from the FJMC.
Think of how many paper plates and plastic cups your synagogue uses in a year, or even for just one event. Biocompostable and biodegradable tableware is an eco-friendly alternative to traditional disposable plates, bowls, utensils, and hot and cold drink cups. The Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs has arranged for major discounts on these items for all participating Conservative Movement institutions. Rather than using petroleum-based plastics, these items are made from the biomass of agricultural waste, such as sugar cane pulp, wheat straw, or corn starch resin. For instance, biocompostable utensils are made from the resin of GMO-free corn (corn that is not grown from a genetically-modified organism). The environmental benefits of these products can be maximized by disposing of them in a commercial or home composting facility, about which more information is available at www.howtocompost.org or from your local parks or sanitation department.
Even if composting is not yet an option for your synagogue, using disposables made from agricultural, rather than petroleum, byproducts for a Kiddush or community Shabbat dinner is the better environmental choice. Biocompostable and biodegradable flatware is also a great way for Bnei mitzvah families to demonstrate their commitment to a sustainable Jewish community. For assistance in ordering these products and taking advantage of the FJMC discount, please contact Jennifer Gersch at [email protected].

Why go Green? While reviewing this catalog, consider the many incentives today to use
Green products:
BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE: Using renewable resources and
generating less waste will create a stronger future by cutting
production costs and eliminating clean-up costs.
EFFICIENCY: Products are recyclable, require less energy to produce,
and generate less waste.
PUBLIC DEMAND: People are more informed and aware of wasteful
products and practices. Businesses are expected to protect the
environment. Television programs, national news, magazines, and other
media regularly showcase Green themes.
FOLLOWING LAWS: Green is becoming a requirement. Governments from
the local to federal level are enacting more environmentally friendly laws.
HEALTH: Eco-Friendly products promote a clean environment by helping

Corn:a pro-environment raw material
Products made from corn perform comparably to the standard plastic products while protecting against waste. The products on pages 4 and 5 use a corn-based polymer construction while most other plastic products today use a petroleum-based polymer. Corn is an annually renewable resource, unlike petroleum, and is much more biodegradable. Corn-based plastics provide the same service while protecting the environment.
