  • Echunga Write up 9 and Under 2015

Thanks again to the committee for the opportunity to coach again this year.

I have been quite impressed with this young group of girls. They have been working very well together and nearly

every week there is full attendance at training with 8 very eager players wanting to learn and asking very useful

    questions.

I can definitely see some beginning skills the girls attained at the Net Set Go programme with 6 out of the 8 girls

having been involved. This brings a confidence and helps them build on the new skills needed to commence games. We have continued to work on individual parts of the game, rules, skills and how to execute them by breaking them

into manageable bits to learn the basics well. Being a team and helping each other learn, and belonging to a club.

The parents have been very supportive and I am grateful to have Lyndee Leech as my team manager and she has been

very organised and made my role much easier.

A huge thankyou to Nic Schaefer for umpiring most weeks. I never under-estimate the value of having such a great

umpire and how fantastic this is to help the girls continue to build confidence in what they are being taught.

A special thanks also to Belinda and the girls from the 11and under team who have, and any who may fill in for us in

the future. Thanks for helping out.

  • The U/11 div 1 side consists of eight girls, Javre brooks, Georgia Crowder, Nicola Gunson, Millie Koster, Georgia-Mae Taylor, Charlotte Phillips, Sophie Vears and Imogen Ryan. This team has played together since U/9s, but this year the girls welcomed Nicola to the club. The team played div 3 last year and went through undefeated to the Grand Final, which they unfortunately lost. This year bought new challenges being put up 2 divisions. New coach Nerissa Vears and assistant coaches Millie Vears and Grace Crowder were very keen to take on this challenge and prove that these girls can be competitive in division 1. Before regrading, our games although loses were close and competitive. We had one win to Hahndorf. After regrading the team came up against stronger teams, Mt Barker United and Mt barker Lutheran who proved to be tougher competition for the girls. This team did not give up, playing it out the with their heads held high and showing the other teams what Echunga Netball club is made of Resilience. Injuries have unsettled the team with Georgia breaking her arm and Imogen having a foot injury. The past few games the team has had to adjust to playing unfamiliar positions and playing with different people. The team has relied on the help of Lucinda and Leila who have kindly played up from our under 11 division 4. The team is excited for the girls return from injury so they can play as one again, and realise their potential while showcasing the Echunga fighting spirit. Nerissa Vears

  • Team Report: Under 11 Division 4

This season saw a team comprising a mixture of Under 9s and Under 11s playing their second season together and new

player Ella Maczkowiack joining the club for her first season of netball. During the pre-season we worked together on

building on old skills and learning new skills too.

Our first games were quite a challenge and it took a few games for us to score our first goals, and what excitement there

    was when we scored!

With each game our performance has improved. The team experienced their first win in round 6 against Nairne Districts

which was very exciting for all involved.

We met the equal top team last week and, although we lost, I was approached by the opposition coach who was keen to

share how much she thought our team had improved since we met earlier in the season.

One of the things this team can be most proud of is the never-say-die attitude the girls take into every game. All matches

are played with great sportsmanship and everyone leaves the court with a smile at the end of each game. In addition, a

willingness to try new positions is evident and this will surely enhance their future netball aspirations.

Thanks go to A-grade coach, Leslie Vears, who took the time to attend a training to share skills with the girls that since been

consistently displayed on court. We are also very thankful for the able assistance of Anais Falzon who comes out to

practice each week and is helping teach the girls many new skills. Anais is also getting involved with assistant coaching

Saturday matches in between her umpiring duties which is greatly received by all.

Heres to making the most of the rest of the season and our team continuing to enjoy netball!

    Belinda Ryan

Good Luck to all teams for the

    rest of the season!!

  • 13 Div 2

Our only 13's team started their season in Div 1 & impressed early with the way they fought hard right to the final whistle in each game that they played. We had 10 players in our team but unfortunately lost Breah Marston after the first game with a broken leg after a riding accident. We hope your rehab is going well Breah & look forward to 2016 for you. We managed a draw against Nairne Districts before, along with Nairne, we were regraded to Div 2 & had a bye straight up. We have since then, recorded another draw, against Littlehampton & our first win against Mt Barker United. Most weeks we have only had 7-8 players available which makes substitutions easy but players also have to play out of position sometimes to ensure the best from the team. Those players have approached that change with determination & a positive attitude which is great. The team consists of Alannah Taylor & Riley Schaefer (co-captains), Eden Berger, Eva Falzon, Jenny Gray, Tahni Leach, Breah Marston, Hannah Murrell, Georgie Reuther & Imogen Wasley. There are sometimes concentration losses at training but for the most the girls are listening & learning which shows in their overall improvement this season. Thanks to Georgia Taylor who has worn her dress a few times as my reserve. This week Georgia along with Sophie Vears & Javre Brooks are playing for us, thanks girls. Keep up the hard work & determination girls, the improvement will also continue. Thanks to Ash Broadbent who is giving up her time on a Wednesday night to assist with Coaching the girls. 45 girls, 45!!!!!!

  • 15 Div 1

The 15 Div 1's currently sit 2nd on the ladder in a competition that brings it's challenges each week. The team combines well together with improvement shown in most areas as the season goes on.

We have had 7 wins, most of them quite convincing which means the concentration & ability to focus on a high standard each game is important. 6 of our players also regularly play 17's which means a heavy workload each week. The loss was not our best game but that is what pressure does to you & we will be more prepared next time we meet them. We lost Georgia Buchecker with an ankle injury leaving us with 7 players. Thanks to Cathy & the 15 Div 2's that have been regularly called to fill in for us.

We look forward to Georgia's return after the bye round. The team consists of Chloe Schaefer & Kashmir Alland (co-captains), Georgia Buchecker, Katie Roberts, Briella Duffield, Jade Rudiger, Leilani Shepherdson & Emma Van De Veerdonk. Thankyou also to our umpires, Di Gray & Tiff Vears. Keep up the good work girls.......focus & concentration!!!

  • Echunga Netball Club 15s Div 2 Team 2015

This year I have the privilege of coachng the Div 2 U15s teamand what an awesome bunch of girls they are too. Chelsea Brown, Grace Crowder, Anais Falzon, Poppy Kentish, Crystal Leach, Jess Lynch, Elise OMalley, Tillie McDonald and Talia Smith make up this talented, dynamic combination of girls.

We have had a great first half of the season, comfortably winning against several teams, having close tussles with others and losing a couple along the way as well. At the moment we are positioned nicely for a strong run into the finals, currently sitting 3rd on the table. Sadly Talia is currently out with a broken arm L, having unknowingly fractured it during the course of a game and only finding out after the game was over what she had done.

We are all keenly waiting to see if shell make it back on the court again before the season is over. Sadly also we said good-bye to Poppy last Saturday as she and her family embark on an exciting family adventure exploring the great Outback and West Coast of Australia.well miss you Poppy but wish you an amazing time away, the memories youll get from this trip will be with you foreverand Im sure well see you on the court again next season.

As your coach girls I need to say how enormously thrilled I am to be coaching such an amazing group of players. You have all combined beautifully, some of you being new to the club this year. I really excited to now be heading into the business end of the season where our thoughts will be turning to finals and how we can maximize our chances to finish the season reaching our absolute potentialI see you as a team capable of taking out the premiership, the way you all work together on the court, your support of each other and your ability to play focused, disciplined netball through all four quarters of a game. Keep up the great attitude girls and good things will happen.

  • 15 & Under Division 3

This team started the season with only 7 players & a serious lack of Goalies. But, as luck would have it a new player

joined our team a week before games were due to begin & she happened to be a Goalie! Jenny Gray from the 13s

(who is also a Goalie) joined our team a couple of weeks into the season to make up our current team of 9 members

    as follows:-

JADE BRIMAGE Captain courageous who runs ALL game great team player!

MADDI BROADBENT Has improved every week, especially with rebounding keep it up!

TIANA FAULKNER New to Echunga & works tirelessly in defence great to have you on the team!

JENNY GRAY Steady Shooter who times her leads to perfection keep it up!

MADDI JONES Is extremely good in defence making it difficult for opposition goalies great job!

TILLY KING The Queen of our Warm Ups who gives her all every game keep it up!

EMMA LEACH Can play any position on the Court & play it well great team player!

ISOBEL McARTHUR New to Echunga & improving her skills every week keep up your enthusiasm!

SAVANNAH RIVETT Also new to Echunga & works well in Goals keep up the great footwork!

We got off to a fairly slow start to the season with 2 losses & a draw as most of the girls had not played together

before & it took a while for us to get everyone to training. But since then we have won 5 in a row, including to teams

we lost & drew to in the first round which is an amazing achievement. We are currently equal 2nd on the ladder & play

the top team in our next match which Im really excited about. These girls do like a chat, but as long as they are also

listening & improving every week thats OK. They are all a pleasure to Coach & lets see how far we can go??

    Nick Schaefer

  • 17s Div 2

The 17s started the season well, but have dropped off a little in the middle of the season.

Sitting 4th on the ladder, the challenge now, is to push the teams above. At full strength we

are a team of 10 with the inclusion of Katie Roberts and Emma Van de Veerdonk from the

15s who have joined us to cover injury, illness and absence which has been a bit of a

    juggling act.

The girls have fitted in and stepped up to next level with great determination and skill.

Claire Carn and Hannah Graetz in defence are working well together and doing a great job

of pressuring the opposition goalies, swooping on any rebounds and sending the ball back

into attack. Midcourters Rosie Hayhurst, Brooke Josephs, Renee Ward and Emma are

providing drive down the court, with sharp movement, determined defence and

    considered passing.

This can only continue to improve as the girls work into the rest of the season.

Annie Ruether is our main goalie after 15s player Georgia Buchecker suffered a serious

ankle injury. Georgia is able to participate again and will ease back into the team. Annie

has settled in her role and there is improvement every week as she has continued to find

her shooting rhythm. Briella Duffield, another 15s player, is the final team member,

providing a strong option in all thirds. Recently sharing the shooting role with Katie, both have stepped up to the challenge of an unfamiliar position. The 2nd half of the season will be about continued improvement, refining of skills, hard work and enjoying the game.

    Felicity Duffield

  • 17s Div 1

The 17 Div 1 team consists of Captain Millie Vears, Vice-Captain Bec Rice, Jess Billings, Lauryn Bradley, Sienna Buchecker, Isabelle Sheehan and aspiring dual team players Kashmir Alland and Chloe Schaefer who are also part of the 15 Div 1s. These girls are a lovely team to coach with a strong inbuilt desire to commit to each other by attending all trainings is a credit to them and their parents, whove obviously taught them the value of commitment to a sport, a club, a team and their peers, well done and may I say Keep up the good work! Also may I say thank you to all the wonderful parents who are willing to make sure they get to all their trainings and games, lets face it, we wouldnt be able to do it without you!! Id also like to share with you, comments from a senior umpire regarding our team, how lovely they are to umpire, how quickly they adjust and how well they listen so Well Done Girls!! Currently the girls are sitting 4th on the ladder, behind Lobethal, Lobethal Lutheran and Onkas, a hard fought draw against Lobethal Lutheran and a small loss to Onkas has proven to the girls that they are not far off the leaders of the pack. As we have been struck with injury, sickness and some unavoidable absences we have had to enlist quite a few fill-ins and Id like to say thank you to Tillie Macdonald, Chelsea Brown, who have quickly said yes to filling in and sitting on the bench for us, also to Anais Falzon and Riley Schaefer whove sat on the bench for us in case of injury. Annette Bradley is one of the most organised people on the planet and we have the pleasure of having her as our team manager, on behalf of all the players, parents and of course myself Thank You Annette! Of course thank you to all our wonderful supporters who are always there cheering the girls on, we are blessed to have you! With 5 rounds to go we have a strong chance in the Major round of the season so good luck and work hard, as we strive to continue to improve and be there in the final game! Hoorah!! Lesley Vears

  • B Grade

Currently sitting top of the ladder on percentage, the team has had only one loss to date and only by a goal. Fielding a great balance of experience and youth, the team are combining well on court and providing many positional options. Vic Mc Beath and Emily Pitchford are doing a great job in the defensive circle, applying great pressure and coming up with lots of defensive touches, allowing the team the opportunity to score. The Midcourt of Carmen Harkness, Kelly Chadbourne and Lucy Northcott are providing great transition into attack, with strong leads and passing as well as solid defence when the opposition has the ball. Lisa Crabb and Milly Cummings in the goal circle are a great focal point and are finishing off with accurate shooting. Millie Vears rounds out the team as the versatility player, having the ability to play with impact in all thirds. The team has settled well and the oncourt flow hasnt taken long to develop, which allows the ball to move nicely to the goalies. We will be looking to finish off the 2nd half of the season strongly, consolidate our team work and maintain our position on the ladder. Felicity Duffield

  • 2015 A Grade Team

The 2015 A Grade team consists of Captain Jade Vanzo, Vice-Captain Kristy Newman, Jess Bell, Emily Bradley, Felic-ity Duffield, Wendy Paech, Bridget Sheehan and Tiffany Vears. These ladies are a wonderful team to coach, watch-ing their new found comradery in 2014 spill over and blossom in 2015 has been a delight to witness and is a credit to each and every player involved. Training with our fabulous B grade inclusive of 1 or 2 U17s has also cemented a rich and deep source of talent base. Our season so far has involved some tough matches and some slightly easier encounters but none have been free. As we currently sit 2nd on the ladder, 2 points behind Lobethal and 1 point ahead of Lobethal Lutheran we still have a lot of work to do if we want to play and win that last game of the season. A quick thank you to our wonderful Team Manager Narelle Nick Schaefer, who is always there sorting everything for us each week as well as taking the first 30 mins warm up and fitness, which I know all the players love, as I see it in their joyous red faces at the end of the session! Also thank you to our PC Annette Bradley, who is always ready with the band aids and tape or anything else we need every week. Also a special mention and thank you to Carmen Harkness whose willingness to bench or play for us when needed is a credit to her and is inspirational in showing what it is to be a team player. A very special mention and thank you to 17 Div 1 player Rebecca Rice as she made her A grade debut in round 2 against Lobethal, congratulations and well done Bec as you did every one proud. Thank you also to all our amazing sup-porters who come out every week, the team hear you and respect you and in wouldnt be without you so thank you, thank you, thank you!! Id especially like to thank the players for their support of, and commitment to our team, for coming out and doing our club proud week in week out, for their relentless never say die attitudes, for being great role models on what it is to be team players, for never giving up, for adjusting when its sometimes the most difficult thing to do, for the sacrifices they make to be at training and of course games and especially for putting up with me! So far its been a fantastic season and I sincerely hope we continue to progress all the way to the end. Remember Ladies, If you Control the ball, You Control the game!

    Leslie Vears
