Why the Need for ICTs in the 21st Century Classroom ? Con’d
Classrooms are sterile, Methodologies content based and irrelevant21st Century Education demands…….that we
prepare for a diverse globalised and complex media- saturated society
There is a need to change the nature of the culture of student engagement in our classrooms for a healthy
balanced and sustainable society
Why the Need for ICTs in the 21st Century Classroom ? SSS & SHS Student turnover
SHSS turns over approx. 1100 students/yr x 34 yr totaling 37,400
SSS turns over 750 students/yr x 50 totaling 37,500
50% of our current population could have been educated at SSS and SHSS………
Enabling FactorsThe vision statements of both schools already
embrace the objective to infuse ICT in the teaching learning process
Climate is poised to utilise technologyEach has 2 computer labsAudio Visual room Portable MultimediaSSS Video conferencing facilityStaff computers/laptops
Factors con’dSome techno-savvy staffSome techno-savvy studentsAnd of course the ubiquitous “first form
