BACKGROUND INFORMATION

• EBU Partnership Programme

Established in 2009 (as the “Special Assistance Project”) “to provide extra support for Members with exceptional financial, strategic, technical, political or other difficulties, and to underline the Union principle of solidarity”

• Co-operation with other partners

MOU WITH THE EUROPEAN UNION

Signature in Brussels on 24 July 2012 of a

“Memorandum of Understanding on a

Partnership between the EU and the EBU

on enabling the democratic role of public

service media in countries covered by the

EU enlargement policy “

The EU has contributed €500,000 towards

co-funding EBU activities to reinforce EBU

Members in Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina,

Croatia, Kosovo, FYR Macedonia,

Montenegro and Serbia.

MAIN OBJECTIVE AND EXPECTED RESULTS- Main objective is - development of independent and sustainable

public service media serving a democratic society

- Results from implementation of the project are reflected in the EU progress reports on the respective countries

- The Partnership Programme team is providing input for the progress reports

- European Parliament will be familiarized with the project

- Positive results could serve as a model for support of other PSM
