In 2011 the network capacity will be doubled to realize

the new demands, as there are:

    increasing demand for HD-SDI transmissions

    New services like Internet-Service-Providing

Automatic rerouting in case of errors, if capacity isavailable in the BROADCAST NGN.

We will maintain two separate routes within theBROADCAST NGN. In case of error, the line willautomatically be switched to the alternate route.

Two independently run connections will be activatedbetween locations A and B (1+1).

A second source can be booked in advance. The line willbe switched to this second source should an error occur.

No backup planned. Manual rerouting by network

management within the BROADCAST NGN is possible.

    Operators Concern

    To roll-out new services i.e. HD, 3D

To be able to scale with our growth

To get our data in-synch with dynamic changes

To get our users and staff trained (intuitive clients)

To be integrated into our current and future operations

To handle all of our resources and services

    Best Practices for Broadcasters

    10

Precise resource management(no double booking while provisioning)

Fast and easy setup of connections (P2MC, P2P)

Alarm location and fast automatic repair (backup

    switching) Scheduling

    Preemption

    Easy conflict resolution

    Managing of edge devices

    Service related SLA monitoring

    Industrial Trends

The merging of broadcast and telcos networks isalready happening

Collaboration instead of competition will be key

Control systems have to meet both telco andbroadcast requirements

Customer operations have become very fast

    Industrial Trends

The standard broadcast Monitoring and Control systemswere good in the past

Operational Support Systems from telcos lacking

    functionalities for broadcast

A new generation of control system is required

We call it Customer Centric Operational Support System

    Major Findings

Standard compliant devices are very important for futurebusiness

The key to successful business is hiding the complexity of thenetwork from end users

Customer would like to see a very simple UI

Customer expectations are always to be able to provisionwithin seconds

Introduction of new services needs to be fast Customer VPN have become dynamic

Flow-through provisioning can massively reduce operationcost
