Research Extension Task
Students will research famous friendships (real or fictional). Teachers should brainstorm these friendships with the students through prior knowledge, as well as introduce new friendships to the students through read-alouds, flipcharts, historical texts, videos, etc. Students will work together to research and identify what made these friendships strong. What were the friends’ feelings, thoughts, and actions that made them good friends? Students will then identify what they can learn about friendship from these famous “characters”. They will combine their learning into one final product that conveys the central message of the importance of friendship and how to be a good friend. Offer students a choice of how to display their final products. Ideas include: a friendship “Wanted” poster, a recipe card for friendship, a cartoon illustrating friendship, a how-to manual, a brochure, an original song/rap, a letter, or any other ideas the students generate.
