Hello August!

Hello Brothers and Co-workers,
July was a busy month, starting with “Burgers on the Beach.” We
rolled out the Lodge BBQ pit and sold hot
dogs and hamburgers to the public at White Pines Lake on Fourth
of July weekend. This was a first-time
event. We served over 100 without any advertising, so we will
definitely do this again as soon as we can.
On Saturday, July 13, we held the Annual Luau. Thank you to Bob
Harlow for chairing in the absence of Ted
Carpenter this year. Ted’s son, Scott Carpenter, came all the
way from Brentwood to help out with the
roasting of the pig. You went above and beyond, Scott, thank
you!! And thank you to the WOTM for
decorating and preparing all of the raffle baskets, and to
Maureen Dinnocenzo for donating a trip from
Above and Beyond Travel for the silent auction.
For the Arnold Classic Car Show on July 20, we once again rolled
out the BBQ pit serving Tri-tip and pulled
pork sandwiches to over 200 people attending the car show. Later
that night, we enjoyed a sold out “Paint
Your Wagon” steak dinner and a movie on the back patio, hosted
by Phee Sheridan and Mary Ann Fabian.
None of these events would’ve been possible without the many
volunteers who did the shopping, food
prep, decorating, set up and tear down, cooking, serving, and
dishwashing. We had several new volunteers
during July, but we’d sure like to see more new members step up
in order to give some of our “always
there” volunteers a break. So, next time you see a volunteer
sign-up sheet in the lobby, please consider
helping out, even if you can only spare an hour.
A big “Thanks” to Kenny Davis for his work to refresh and
re-seal our Lodge sign out front. Another great
example of one of our members volunteering their expertise to
help support the Lodge.
Now, bringing back for the first time in many years, is “Rookie
of the Year.” Please join me in congratulating
Doug Herman as our Rookie of the Year 2019/2020. Doug joined our
Lodge last summer and, in the short
time he’s been a member, he has been a constant volunteer in and
out of the kitchen, event after event. I
thank you for the many hours you’ve put in, Doug, as does my
wife for your participation with Sunday
breakfasts! Both Doug and his wife Lisa (Mrs. Rookie of the
Year) have been very active volunteers since
relocating from the Bay Area last year.
Bull Moose of the month is Scott Lemon. The success of his
annual Rib Feed benefiting the Moose Legion
now makes it possible to replace one of our ancient beer coolers
in the bar area. Thank you, Scott, for all
that you do, and congratulations!
Please come out and support! Your Lodge needs you! Fraternally
Yours, Damon Bortz Governor 209-890-3813

Brothers and Co-workers,
BINGO has been going strong throughout the summer. Thank you,
Kurt Kraal, and all of your team for your
efforts! Our BINGO program has been with us for many years and
once in a while we need to be reminded
just how important it is.
First of all, the money raised from BINGO cannot be used for any
lodge project. By law, it must be used for a
charitable cause. It should be noted that BINGO is a LOOM
function. The WOTM have many other fundrais-
ers for their community and charitable projects.
Our BINGO funds go to a lot of different local functions,
including scholarships for 4 students each year, and
support of White Pines Park, the Logging Museum, Big Trees State
Park, Hazel Fischer Elementary school,
Avery Middle school, County Search & Rescue, Murphys School
of Music, as well as requests to help
individuals throughout the County. Last year, we donated a total
of $4.275.00 directly from our BINGO
account. This year so far, we have donated $2,558.00.
So, the next time you hear someone ask, “How does the Lodge use
the BINGO money?” you can give them
an answer. Please consider bringing friends and family down on a
Wednesday night for some BINGO fun.
(Players must be 18 years or older to play, but kids can
watch.)
Get Involved. Fraternally,

Senior Regent’s Update
Hello Brothers and Co-workers,
Well we may have more than we bargained for with this run of hot
weather. Luckily, we live in an area
where we have beautiful lakes, rivers, reservoirs and pools to
cool off in!
I would like to thank the WOTM for volunteering during the month
of July with the many scheduled events.
Melanie Kish headed up the raffle for the Luau and Christy Almen
the Luau decorations. Mary Ann Fabian and
Phee Sheridan planned a special outdoor movie event and a steak
dinner that sold out! Members had a fun
time singing to the lyrics of “Paint your Wagon.” There were
many co-workers that pitched in to make these
two events successful, a big thank you to all!
The WOTM membership has been growing by leaps and bounds. Since
May we’ve had over 44 new mem-
bers join! And we have seen several new members volunteering in
the kitchen. We welcome you and your
volunteer spirit!
Speaking of our kitchen, we recently formed a Kitchen Committee.
The committee members are Kris Bortz,
Patti Corcoran, Doug Herman, Tess Leary and myself. The purpose
of the committee is to make the kitchen
more efficient in all areas. One of the areas is maintaining
cleanliness. During the monthly Moose Lodge
“workday,” we would welcome volunteers to help specifically
focus on the kitchen cleaning and organization.
We will keep you updated as this committee moves forward. Our
next kitchen workday is on 8/10 at 10 a.m.
There are many events scheduled in August. We hope that you can
attend a few. The rummage sale planned
by Lisa Herman is scheduled on Saturday, August 3, from 8 a.m.
to 4 p.m. In addition to the many treasures
you may find, there will be a bake sale all day and tri-tip
sandwiches available for purchase from 11 a.m. to
2:30 p.m. One of the biggest outdoor events of the year is the
“Anything on Wheels” Car show and Chili Cook
off scheduled Saturday, August 17. It’s not too late to sign up
to show off your wheels or your chili cooking
skills. It is always a fun time, there will also be food, drinks
and raffles! Just added is a Labor Day weekend
dinner scheduled for Friday, August 30, by the Shaffer’s. Beef
Brisket with homemade BBQ sauce is the
featured item. The meal will start off with a grilled shrimp
appetizer by Doug Herman.
Our Co-Worker of the month is Susanne St. Charles. If you have
attended one of Susanne’s dinners, you
know what a great cook she is. Susanne volunteered to cook five
delicious meals in July!
Susanne, we thank you!
In closing a quote by Kenny Chesney: “It’s a smile, it’s a kiss,
it’s a sip of wine it’s summertime!”
Fraternally Yours, Elaine Shaffer 2019/20 Senior Regent

During fellow lodge member Don Burns’ July vacation in
central Virginia, he was loaned a wheelchair from the
nearby Louisa County Moose Lodge #2065. Don was in a
head-on car crash two years ago and occasionally
requires a wheelchair. To show his gratitude, Don
(center) presented an Ebbetts Pass Moose Lodge hat
and metal plaque to Louisa, Virginia lodge trustee
Gordon Burckholder (left) and lodge administrator
John Gentry (right). Don says the Virginia lodge’s
Southern hospitality was fantastic, as was the $14
T-bone steak dinner they served that night!

Anything on Wheels Car Show & Chili Cook-off
Saturday, August 17, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m..
The WOTM will again host the 5th annual Car Show
& Chili Cook-off. This is a hugely successful event
with approximately 500 attendees last year and 300
chili tasters. Proceeds benefit the many charities
and non-profits supported by the WOTM Chapter
1714. Entry forms available at the lodge or on
www.facebook.com/ebbettspassmooselodgeevents.
We will need many volunteers including cooks, drink
servers, registration help, crowd and traffic control
and raffle ticket sales. Contact Mary Ann Fabian:
650-888-6082, [email protected]
We need raffle prize donations! You can help by
asking your favorite local businesses for
raffle prize donations.
Missing Dice Cups
Please contact Bob Burns or Della Taylor if you locate 2
missing tan, leather dice cups with dice. They were left
sitting on the lodge bar in a purple Crown Royal drawstring
bag. These cups have a lot of sentimental value and their
return would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Attention Co-workers:
The Women of the Moose want to celebrate your
birthday! During your birthday month, please plan to attend
the first WOTM Chapter meeting of the month. All birthday
girls in attendance will receive a birthday present and join
us
for birthday cupcakes in your honor!
THANKS FOR THE PIZZA!
On Saturday, July 27, Brooke Peterson and the
Member Retention committees hosted a New
Member Orientation, which was well attended.
Kathy Romero won the door prize!
A shout out and thank you to one of our newest
members, Bryon Ross, for serving the pizza for
lunch at our New Member Orientation.
Bryon has on two other occasions
donated pizzas from RG2g Take-N-Bake for our
regular Wednesday lunches. Thank you, Bryon, for
your generosity!
