I had the opportunity to meet with The Lindafrom Esthetics by Linda...
I found out a few things about Linda. Things that are not obvious from looking at thisamazing self-employed woman entrepreneur. She has been in business for herselffor 25 years this April, with 28 years of experience with Esthetics. But let’s start atthe beginning.
Linda was born in Cornwall and she is the 7th of 8 children, all her siblings livenearby, from Finch toApple Hill to Cornwall. Her family is very important to her. Shehas 16 nieces and nephews, 27 great nieces and nephews and 4 God children, ages34, 21, 16 and 4. She has been married to a wonderful man Allan Graham for 22years now. “He is my rock, my support through good days and not so good days.”
At the age of 4 ½ months she contracted the polio virus, the only one in her familyand that greatly affected the person she has become. She had 14 operations to correcther leg and ankle, many times out of school and alone in the hospital. Casts wereworn in the summer to see if that would help. Her feet grew different sizes andlengths, and fashion was very difficult…“but I never considered myself handicappedor crippled. I think that is why today I am a very independent person. I was a stub-born young teenager, and finally at the age of thirteen got rid of the brace, the uglyshoes and took the lifts off my shoes, and I started to wear normal shoes. I neverwore a short dress again.”
Business Look What I FoundSeaway Business “Spotlight” with Cheryl
Linda left school at the age of 16 andworked in the local Cornwall mills forabout 6 years. When she got tired ofthis, she spoke to her high school gui-dance counsellor. She suggested Lindaattend the Marvel School of Skincareand Cosmetics, in Toronto. AlthoughLinda had been treating herself to fa-cials and waxing since leaving highschool, this opportunity open a newwonderful world for her.
Every day now, Linda hops out of bedand gets to the Le Petit Retreat andDay Spa early. She has her breakfastand reads her paper and is ready forher staff to arrive. Her receptionistJulie, the two other Estheticians Lisaand Lee and her new Nail Technician Sylvie, arrive to find Linda smiling and readyto greet the first clients. Some of Linda's clients have been with her since the begin-ning, especially the high school counsellor!
Once you walk in the door you experience the calm, relaxed atmosphere Linda hasworked hard to create. Linda has high standards and expects a lot from herself andher staff. She only uses quality products and equipment, including the recent pur-chase of the Laser! Take a look her website (www.estheticsbylinda.com) to find whatshe can do for you; the list is long and mighty. Linda has reinvented her business asnew techniques and training comes along. You can expect only the best when youwalk through her door each and every time!

Pets For Senior Citizens
In the not-so-distant pass, a Valentine was a very sweet little homemade or store-bought paper note just to make someone smile and show friendship, thoughtfulness,or love. Valentines are a sweet and simple custom that senior citizens rememberfondly from their youth and Valentine's Day is a sweet time to show love for seniors.
Valentine Ideas for Cheering Seniors- Make handcrafted Valentines for seniors.- Hand delivered purchased cards would also be very much appreciated.- A church choir or singing group could sing Valentine or love songs at a senior
home, center, or apartment building. Be sure to make plans to visit ahead oftime with the staff.
Valentine's Day Ideas for Older Parents and Grandparents- Many of the ideas above will work on a one-on-one basis as well.- Teachers and parents can encourage children to remember the senior citizens
in their lives and help them make handmade cards or gifts.- Of course, the classic heart-shaped box of chocolates is always a loving gift.- A heart-shaped frame (or paper cut-out) with a photo of a grandchild is a
special gift idea.- Baking treats like Fast & Easy 3 Ingredient Cookies in Valentine colors is
sweet in more ways than one.

St. Valentine’s Story...Let me introduce myself. My name is Valentine. I lived in Rome during the thirdcentury. That was long, long ago! At that time, Rome was ruled by an emperornamed Claudius. I didn't like Emperor Claudius, and I wasn't the only one!A lotof people shared my feelings.
Claudius wanted to have a big army. He expected men to volunteer to join. Many men just did not want to fight in wars. They did not want to leave theirwives and families. As you might have guessed, not many men signed up. Thismade Claudius furious. So what happened? He had a crazy idea. He thoughtthat if men were not married, they would not mind joining the army. So Claudiusdecided not to allow any more marriages. Young people thought his new lawwas cruel. I thought it was preposterous! I certainly wasn't going to support thatlaw!
Did I mention that I was a priest? One of my favorite activities was to marrycouples. Even after Emperor Claudius passed his law, I kept on performing mar-riage ceremonies -- secretly, of course. It was really quite exciting. Imagine asmall candlelit room with only the bride and groom and myself. We would whis-per the words of the ceremony, listening all the while for the steps of soldiers.

One night, we did hear footsteps. It was scary! Thank goodness the couple Iwas marrying escaped in time. I was caught. (Not quite as light on my feet as Iused to be, I guess.) I was thrown in jail and told that my punishment was death.
I tried to stay cheerful. And do you know what? Wonderful things happened. Many young people came to the jail to visit me. They threw flowers and notesup to my window. They wanted me to know that they, too, believed in love.
One of these young people was the daughter of the prison guard. Her father al-lowed her to visit me in the cell. Sometimes we would sit and talk for hours. Shehelped me to keep my spirits up. She agreed that I did the right thing by igno-ring the Emperor and going ahead with the secret marriages. On the day I wasto die, I left my friend a little note thanking her for her friendship and loyalty. Isigned it, "Love from your Valentine."
I believe that note started the custom of exchanging love messages on Valen-tine's Day. It was written on the day I died, February 14, 269 A.D. Now, everyyear on this day, people remember. But most importantly, they think about loveand friendship. And when they think of Emperor Claudius, they remember howhe tried to stand in the way of love, and they laugh -- because they know thatlove can't be beaten!
