Couples with children, working full time,over-booked schedules... If you can re-late, hiring a cleaning service can be verytempting as a wonderful shortcut to aclean and organized home if the house-hold budget can stand the cost. Many ser-vices can be offered locally, with a littleresearch cleaning professionals can befound. Some work by the hour, others canwork on a fixed rate. Most of them arehired on a weekly basis but some peopleonly hire them to come into their homeonce a month. Do your homework whenhiring, ask for some references. Cheaperis not always better, your home is yourupmost private area, you need someoneyou can trust!
But what do you do if the Prize Patrol by-passed your door this year and havinghelp is just not in your budget? Learn howto do it yourself with these great speedcleaning tips!
Paid cleaning services are masters of theart of speedy, efficient cleaning. Watchprofessional cleaners at work: they don'twaste time, cut corners or dawdle overthe job--and they know how to clean fast, clean right.
Schedule Cleaning as A JobProfessional cleaners schedule every job, right down to the minute. Nobody hires acleaning service that promises to arrive"some Saturday when nothing else is hap-pening." Take a tip from the pros, and setup a regular weekly cleaning schedule. There's nothing like the feeling of a com-pletely clean home but you won't get it bycleaning by fits and starts! The pros don'tquit until the job is done, and neithershould you. Schedule the job and stick toit to get the work done in record time.
Dress for SuccessProfessional cleaners dress for the job incomfortable, washable clothing designedfor work.
ON THE MARKET by Sylvie Legault
Pick It UpProfessional cleaners come to clean:counters, furniture, appliances and floors. They can't do the job if each horizontalsurface in the home is covered with pa-pers, toys, dirty dishes and just plain clut-ter. Pretend that you've hired ahigh-priced cleaning crew. You wouldn'tmake them sweep the clutter to one sideto do their job! Give yourself the samehead start you give professional cleaners:pick up before you clean. Without the dis-traction caused by out-of-place items, cleaning chores will fly.
Get MotivatedYou won't find the pros pausing to followtelevision soap operas or check their e-mail. Amateur cleaners, too, should limitdistractions as they clean. Turn off televi-sions and let the phone go to voicemail tostay focused on cleaning up... fast. Useappropriate motivators to energize clea-ning sessions. Play upbeat music for anenergy boost.
Make Every Movement CountProfessional cleaners don't circle a roommore than once. Taking their place be-fore the bathroom sink, they'll spray andwipe the mirror, scrub the sink, wipedown counters and polish fixtures beforethey move one inch to the right or left.Stand fast and clean everything in yourpath before you move on.
Two Hands Are Better Than OneProfessional cleaners don't work as if onearm is in a sling, and neither should you.Get in the habit of using both hands to at-tack cleaning tasks.
The finishing touch? Spritz the newly-cleaned home with scen-ted room spray... and enjoy the squeaky-clean feeling!

HERE’S MY CARD - Pet Professionals
"What we've got here is... Failure to communicate!"Dogs are indeed natural body language ex-perts at resolving conflict, cooperation andusing 'calming signals' as well as communi-cating their needs and desires. Who of us canhonestly say we have not noticed when ourdog is asking to be let outside in the yard ortaken for a walk? Or when they want a treat?Or would like a taste of your treat? How manyof us have been beneficiaries of a pet who ex-uberantly 'play-bows' in front of us, showingus he wants to play? Or one placing his headin our lap or licking our hand to comfort uswhen we are sad? If we are open and obser-vant with our pets, we will be able to see howvery well they are at communicating with usand each other!
By not noticing or validating these attempts ofcommunication by our pets, WE, have be-come, 'the weakest link'.
Take the time to observe. Did you know forinstance, that if your dog yawns it's not be-cause he's bored with your latest re-telling ofyour hard day at work? He is hearing the stressin your voice and what he's doing is showingyou a 'calming signal' to help you de-stress.This is also an excellent calming gesture foryou to use with your dog when you notice he'sa bit stressed out at the vet's office, or whensome visitors arrive at the house, or you passa strange dog on the street, etc...Just slowlyyawn, breathe deeply and then notice howquickly your dog will take your lead and beginto relax.
When we see a couple of dogs playing to-gether and getting really excited, notice whenone of them will turn his back to the other andsit or even lie down. This is also a 'calmingsignal' saying, 'O.k. it's getting a little out ofhand now, please calm down.' You can use thistactic with your dog if he's getting a little toorambunctious with you or the kids...Havewhomever is interacting with the dog turntheir back to him when it gets to be too much. Then, observe how your pet will stop and mostlikely just sit down or calmly walk away. Inaddition, you can sit down, or even lie downon the couch. This signals your pet, 'time tocalm down.'
No need to yell, certainly no need to hit...Infact, when you do such things, you are step-ping way outside of the normal channels ofcommunication and your pet will react much

the same way as you would if some crazy per-son was in your face. They'll feel terrorized.
Have you ever noticed how dogs dislike youin their face, staring at them? This is becausein the doggie world this is a severe breach ofetiquette. It's a clear threat. Notice how yourdog will turn his face away. This takes awaythe 'scary'. Dogs will use this head turning aswell as moving their eyes from side to sideand/or blinking when a strange dog is ap-proaching to show they are friendly. You too,can show friendliness by turning your headaway when either you or a strange dog is ap-proaching, and/or also include blinking. Thiseffective gesture shows you are no threat andcan ease your own pet, or even stop a strange, dog attack in its tracks.
When you bark out a command to a dog to'come', 'sit' or 'lie down' then notice that he isreacting 'very slowly', he's not doing it to an-tagonize you as you may begin to irrationallyimagine. He's doing it because he's picked upon the aggression in your voice and he's usinga 'calming signal' to give you time to calmdown. How many of us have lived through theembarrassment of getting further and furtherinto a frenzy of hollering out to our dogs to'COME!' while watching the dog take a widebirth around us staying just out of our reach?Ensure you always use a happy, care-free tonein your voice when you call your dog and he'llcome a running every time!
Using good observation and the tips above,my relationships vastly improved with all ofmy own many dogs and others I've workedwith over the years. These tips and many morecan easily be learned from reading a simple, yet mind-expanding, 35 page book written byDog Behavioural Expert, Turid Rugaas. Withuncomplicated language and clear diagramsshe expertly explains exactly what your dog istrying to tell you, and how you can clearlycommunicate. I highly encourage everyone in-terested in learning more effective communi-cation skills between them and their pets toread her book.

As I lay in bed this morning, being
grateful for my life, the Angels whis-
pered to me, "This is what you are to
write about next, your Gratitude ri-
tual!"
Every morning when I first open my
eyes to the light of day, I say and
allow myself to fully feel these words,
"I am deeply grateful for my life."
(As opposed to what it used to be
which usually was, 'What's that crazy
cat doing now'?!?!?)
As I slowly get up and get into my
morning routine, I continue to make
statements of gratitude. These state-
ments can be about anything as long
as I don't do it by rote, but truly feel
the gratitude. Not only being grateful,
but acknowledging why I am grateful.
I usually start with my Husband. "I
am deeply grateful for Tom, and for
how he shows his love for me and our
family in so many ways, but espe-
cially today, I am grateful for him get-
ting up every morning in the
pre-dawn blackness, always mana-
ging to be cheerful, and driving an
hour into work to provide such a won-
derful life for us." Thank you! Thank
you! Thank you!
After thoroughly feeling grateful for
each of my loved ones, I usually give
thanks for my body and it's various
components always remembering to
include why I am grateful. For my
eyes, because I can see the great
beauty of nature outside of my be-
droom window as I wake up... for my
heart that beats so strong that I may
live... for my lungs that are able to
take in full breaths of fresh, country
air as not all are so lucky...for my able
legs that carry me everywhere... and
on and on I go, expressing gratitude
in all areas of life until my attitude is
one of gratitude and I feel so good, it
really doesn't matter what the crazy
cat did...
Acknowledging all the blessings in
your life, both big and small, as often
as you can, will remind you of how
richly blessed you are. Experience
will tell you that expressing genuine
gratitude for your blessings, can only
bring more blessings upon you.
SPIRITUAL by Aileen W. Donovan
Your Angel MessageGratitude
How to receive everything you ever wanted
Further to that, the Angels encouraged
me to inspire, the quickest way to en-
sure more blessings for yourself, is to
be grateful for blessings for someone
else....especially, when they are not
directly connected to you.
Because you cannot know a strangers'
wants or needs, the best way you can
ask for blessings for a stranger is to
word your gratitude statement, some-
thing like this...
Starting or ending, with 3 Thank
you's, a sign of faith, that your prayer
is already answered.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
For the Blessings of great health,
wealth, happiness and peace of mind
for (fill in person's name or descrip-
tion here)."
Do this for the postman, the delivery
boy, the check-out girl at the grocery
store, the person who didn't say 'thank
you' as you held open the door for
them at Tim Horton's, and especially,
for the frazzled commuter who cut
you off in traffic this morning, the
short-tempered co-worker who wasn't
so kind, the mean kid at school, the
barking boss, the gossipy click of
'friends', the stranger at the hospital
sitting in the Emergency waiting
room...etc...There are an infinite
amount of blessings waiting to be pul-
led down from Heaven and given
away...the Angels ask you to remem-
ber to do your part, for yourself and
for others. Your own most splendife-
rous life, is here for you as quickly
and simply as being GRATEFUL for
the blessings you have now, and bles-
sings for fellow Beings.
Remember these 'Blessing requests'
also extend to pets and wild ani-
mals...remember to ask and be grate-
ful for blessings bestowed upon ALL
creatures.
Then watch the rain of blessings
fall.....
