Eastern Regional Station, ICAR-IVRI, Kolkata, organised “Industry-Academia Interface Meet” using online digital platform on 15 th September 2020 Academia and industry are two important pillars and a robust collaboration is need of the hour that enables innovation in research thereby producing an industry-ready workforce in line with the requirements. By this, not only the needs and expectations of the industry is fulfilled but also the aspirations of the academics are met with as well. With this background and in order to strengthen the relationship through building a constructive framework, an “Industry- Academia Interface Meet” was organized under the CAAST-Advanced Centre for Livestock Health (World Bank funded NAHEP) at ICAR-IVRI, Eastern Regional Station, Kolkata, on 15 th September, 2020. In view of the recent havoc played by Covid-19 pandemic, the entire programme was conducted through virtual mode using Zoom digital platform. The interface meet was attended by 104 participants, including personnel from industries dealing with veterinary biologicals, pharmaceuticals, feed processing industry, entrepreneurs, faculty, students and research scholars of ICAR- IVRI, Izatnagar and its regional stations.

In his opening remarks, Dr. B.P. Mishra, Hon’ble Director-cum-Vice

Chancellor, ICAR-IVRI, Indian

Veterinary Research Institute,

Izatnagar, presented an overview of

the glorious past and the present

scenario of ICAR-IVRI in terms of

scientific and research

achievements. During his deliberation, the Director emphasized the need to

bring the industry and academia closer to identify the research gaps and

formulate future strategies bringing user-friendly solutions to the livestock

sector.

In his address, Dr Triveni Dutt, Joint Director (Academic)-cum Dean & Nodal

Officer, Centre for Advanced Agricultural

Science & Technology (CAAST): Advanced

Centre for Livestock Health (ACLH), ICAR-IVRI,

Izatnagar,

outlined National Agricultural Higher

Education Project and deliberated the main

objectives of the interface meet. Dr. A.K.

Tiwari,

Head, Division of Biological Standardization &

PI, CAAST:ACLH gave a brief outline of the

CAAST:ACLH and its scope in collaboration with

industry in a public-private-partnership (PPP)

mode. Earlier, Dr P. S. Banerjee, Station In-

Charge of ICAR-IVRI, ERS, Kolkata, welcomed the participants to the Industry-

Academia interface meet and introduced distinguished personalities, industry

partners and entrepreneurs to the audience.

During the programme, presentations were made to keep the

participating industries and entrepreneurs abreast about the technologies of

ICAR-IVRI, and the profile of the students and their field of research. Dr

Gyanendra Singh, Principal Scientist &

Controller of Examination-cum-

Academic Coordinator, ICAR-IVRI

presented the “Profile of ICAR-IVRI

Deemed to be University” whereas Dr.

S.K. Singh, Principal Scientist and Officer In-Charge, IMTU, ICAR-IVRI,

Izatnagar highlighted the technologies commercialised through a presentation

“Livestock Health, Production, and Products Technologies of IVRI: Developed,

Patented and Commercialized”.

Thereafter, few representatives of industry and entrepreneurs from

animal health, production and allied sectors shared their experiences and

journey till date in their

respective fields. Notable among

With a purpose to generate need based researchable issues for future

research in the institute, an interactive session between the students and

faculty of the institute with industry representatives was organised.The

interaction of students with the industry representatives not only set a new

paradigm but also provided a platform enhancing their entrepreneurship &

employability.

The interface meet was compered by Dr P. Dandapat, Principal

Scientist, ERS, ICAR-IVRI, Kolkata, whereas Dr

Subhasish Bandyopadhyay, Principal Scientist,

ERS, ICAR-IVRI,

Kolkata co-ordinated

the digital platform.

At the end of the meeting, vote of thanks was

proposed by Dr U. K. Bandyopadhyay,Principal

Scientist and Training In-charge, ICAR-IVRI, ERS, Kolkata.
