COURSE OUTLINE These are in-country field intensives for students interested in engineering, natural resources management, livelihoods and rural development issues and practice. The Eastern Indonesian Field Intensives are a long- running, award winning program from the School of Environment and School of Engineering and Information Technology and builds on extensive research partnerships. In partnership with Nusa Cendana University (Kupang, Indonesia) a small consortium of Indonesian university partners and Charles Darwin University is offering Australian students an in-country field intensive in eastern Indonesia. Students will work on real issues in rural communities in eastern Indonesia during a two week field studies placement. In addition, there will be compulsory pre-and post-trip activities undertaken online. The units will be taught collaboratively during the field intensive by staff from all participating universities. We will also consult with village leaders, non-government organisations (NGOs) representatives and government staff. Students will gain cultural awareness and confidence in different community settings with fellow Australian and Indonesian students across a range of backgrounds, skills and experiences (e.g. natural resource management, engineering, health, education, policy). The program emphasises ethical practice and leadership working in a cross- cultural environment.
