Year 5 Camp GoodenoughRecently our Year 5 students had a wonderful time at CampGoodenough where they learnt:
Sound of MusicHi Jindalee State School! I’m Molly PepperJohnson and I’m in the Sound of Music!
I had to go through 5 auditions, but it wasworth it! At first, I didn’t really think it was abig deal, but now I know I am so lucky to bea part of the production. My singing teacherrecommended me to audition for it. Duringthe auditions all the Marta’s and Gretl’s got
called in by a chaperone and we all walked into a BIG studio. The Musical Director, got us to sing Do-Re-Mi and the Hills AreAlive. He then picked out a few girls and called them into adifferent room. I found out later, that those girls hadn’t beensuccessful and I had. Yippee!! Onto the next round - The MDthen positioned us around a piano and we began to singDo-Re-Mi again. Next we were sent into the corridor and the
chaperones told us we got in, and to go get our parents. Thechaperones told our parents the dates for the next auditionand off we went! It has been an emotional ride, as at first Ididn’t get offered a role, but 4 weeks ago the Company Directorphoned and said one of the Marta’s had left the show and Icould audition, again, for the role. I was really excited and thenext day I was offered the role. Mummy came into school andtold me and I couldn’t hide my excitement. You may have seenme jumping up and down and squealing outside the tuckshopthat day. I haven’t missed too much school, but I have had somuch fun rehearsing, that I could easily give up school and liveon the set of Sound of Music. My brothers are tired of hearingme sing the songs, and much prefer me to sing anything else!!!“Please?" they beg. But I have to know a lot, and get everythingright, so I’m always practising, even in my sleep. Last weekwas a Charity night and I got to do the entire show with theorchestra, it was absolutely amazing. The audience stood upand applauded us when we had finishes. I have met AmyLepamer, Cameron Daddo and Marina Prior. They’re all reallynice to work with and are really friendly! Cameron Daddo isNOTHING like his character! He's actually really nice, and I thinkthat it would probably be really hard to be mean and grumpylike he has to at the start of the show. I hope you can come andwatch it. It’s showing at the Lyric Theatre at QPAC, from Friday11 March to Sunday 1 May. Book through QPAC.
Hairspray“I’m going to be performing in the massensemble for the upcoming musicalHAIRSPRAY. It is going to be held at theBrisbane Convention and Exhibition Centreon Friday 8th – 10th April, 2016. I will beperforming in all 5 shows alongside wellknow artists, Christine Anu, Simon Burke,Lauren McKenna, Tim Campbell, Amanda
Muggleton and many others.
It is going to be the largest production of Hairspray. Hairsprayis an American musical with 1960’s style dance music. I havecompleted the January boot camps and I have rehearsalsnearly every day over the Easter school holidays. I’m learninglots of dances and I think the hardest part is having to speakin a realistic American accent. My favourite dance is “You can’tstop the beat”. The director/choreographer and producer arereally friendly and lots of fun. My costume is a 60’s style daydress.
Hope to see you there in the audience.

Active School Travel Information
How Well Do You Know Our Local Area?
How easy is it for you to walk, cycle or catch public transportto school? Find out in Jindalee State School’s new active travelmap. Brisbane City Council has produced this map for theschool as part of the Active School Travel program. Our activetravel map is a detailed map of our school’s local areahighlighting public transport routes, walking and cycle pathsand essential public facilities. Every family should have receiveda hard copy of our active travel map over the last week. Sparecopies are available from the office.
You can also measure the distance from your house to schoolusing the measuring scale in the legend. Have a look for thebig pink boundary. We call the area inside this boundary the ‘noexcuses zone’. If you live within that area, you have less than500m to travel to school and that is an easy ten minute walk! Ifyou drive from outside the area, you can still do the ‘Park andStride’. Just leave your car outside the area and walk the restof the way.
You can also use the active travel map this weekend to discovernearby bikeways and walking paths, catch a bus, ferry or train, walk to parks and shops and visit other local attractions.

We encourage our students and staff towear orange on this day in recognition of these two importantnationwide events and will be holding a whole schoolassembly in our school hall which will begin at 2pm.
Harmony Day, 21 March, celebrates Australia’s culturaldiversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense ofbelonging for everyone. It is a day for all Australians to embrace
cultural diversity and to share what we have in common. Thecentral message for Harmony Day is that ‘everyone belongs’,reinforcing the importance of inclusiveness to all Australians. The theme for Harmony Day 2016 is our diversity is ourstrength. Students will engage in a number of activities withintheir classrooms during the week where they will recognizethe diverse learners within their classrooms and discuss howdiversity makes them or their community stronger.

Through a number ofactivities, the aim is to ensure that our students receive apowerful message that bullying and violence is never okay.
Blue for Autism
Go Blue for Autism to help raise awarenessand support to people living with Autism
Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families.
Every person with Autism Spectrum Disorderis different to another and has their own wayof seeing the world, which makes them interesting and unique. When someone has ASD, it means that their brains are wireddifferently to other people. However, the symptoms of ASD varyenormously from person to person.
ASD is a complex lifelong developmental disability thataffects a person’s ability to communicate, interact withothers and cope in everyday situations.
While the symptoms of ASD vary greatly from person to person, the main areas of difficulty are in social awareness andinteraction, communication and restricted and repetitivebehaviour. The cause of ASD is not fully understood. Althoughthere is no cure, appropriate early interventions, therapy andeducation delivered by professionals with expertise in ASD canmake a significant difference.
On World Autism Awareness Day, held each year on April2, iconic buildings across Australia and the world will turn theirlights blue for the entire month of April to promote autismawareness.

P&C News
JSS P&C Annual General Meeting
Monday 21 March @ 6:30pmIn Kirinari
With each New Year comes a new opportunity for a shift in rolesand participation within the school community.
The items below give a quick breakdown of the different roleswithin the P&C – starting with arguably the most important–YOU the community member.
P&C Members
People can become P&C members by completing amembership application form and attending a general meetingto submit the application. However at the AGM people cansubmit a membership application form without being present atthe meeting or they can attend the AGM and submit their form.
People who wish to join a subcommittee must be members ofthe P&C Association. Membership is renewable each year atthe AGM.
P&C members can greatly assist the chairperson by beingattentive to the issues being discussed, putting their point ofview clearly during debate and providing direction to themeeting through the careful wording of motions. Members thatwish to raise an issue should do so in a respectful and informedmanor.
Every member of the P&C should be familiar with the P&Cconstitution and the financial and legal responsibilities of theP&C Association. Except in matters of urgency, P&C membersmake all decisions (including those recommended bysubcommittees) and direct the actions to be taken, at a dulyconstituted meeting of the P&C.
At Jindalee State School, we meet once per month forapproximately 2 hours for the general meeting on the 3rdMonday of the month – starting at 7pm.
Outside of this 2 hour commitment once per month, there isno expectation other than for you to come with your opinionand a willingness to make decisions for the good of the schoolcommunity. There is no expectation on automatic participationin P&C sponsored activities (however we greatly welcome that!).
The P&C Executive
This consists of:
If you are interested in applying for these roles – we stronglyencourage you to do so! For a great overview of theresponsibilities for each of the roles this can be found at theSupport Guide for P&Cs starting on page 16.

The popular annual games night is coming up on the 16 April2016. Once again we are looking forward to an awesome nightand hope to see many of you there dressed up to the themeand ready to have lots of fun.
Of course to host such an awesome night we need a lot ofhelp planning, setting up and cleaning up. Below are some ofthe roles we need volunteers for in order for this night to goahead. Please take to time to read it and let us know if you areinterested in helping out. It would mean the world to us and theschool.
We need 2 or more extra people to help plan the night. Planningincludes brain storming games, testing them out, schedulingthe night, organising decorations and people. We meet oneevening per week or per fortnight as deemed necessary. Youcan also use skype or facetime if you can’t attend physically.Ideally you will be able to be there on the night to help run thegames night. It is lots of fun preparing and hosting this night.Email me on [email protected]
Setting up Crew 15 April 2016 from 6pm
We need about 5 + helpers for our setup on Friday evening from6pm onwards. Children are welcome to stay and we will havepizza for the helpers. We need help setting up tables, chairs andsound & entertainment equipment. We also need help puttingup posters and decorations. Lastly, we need help stocking thebar.
Floor staff on the night 2016 April from 6pm
We need floor staff for a number of jobs on the night. These are:
2x registration table 6-7:15pm – scanning tickets andaccepting payments.2x ushering (can be done by people attending the nightas a participant).4x Roaming the floor and checking that no one ischeating . Taking answer sheets and assisting with the
games (can be combined with the registration table).2x scorers – scoring sheets as they come in and filling inthe score sheet.2x selling tickets for cent auction. Drawing prizes andhanding them over to the winners.2 x bar staff (and stocking the bar prior to the evening)8 x cleaning-up: ideally people attending the night willhelp us move chairs and tables back, but we do stillrequire a good number of people as we do not live inan ideal world. We are hoping that these roles can becombined with the other roles on the night.
Clean-up staff on Sunday morning 10am-12pm
The more people we get the faster it will be. As the night beforewill be late, we generally return the next morning to clean-up thelast bits of decorations, the sound system, the bar etc.
