As we have explored the New Testament book of Philippians during our Sunday morning worship services in March, we have been both inspired and challenged by what Paul wrote. We were inspired by Paul's testimony that he was rejoicing even though he wrote from jail under the threat of possible execution. He was able to rejoice because the message of the Gospel was being preached. His attitude that the furtherance of the Gospel was far more important than his own life was expressed in his declaration in Phil. 1:21 - "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain." After hearing Paul's testimony, we were challenged to join Paul in considering the furtherance of the Gospel as far more important than our own lives as well. His encouragement was to conduct our lives in a manner worthy of the Gospel of Christ. We looked at the reality that the message of the Gospel has always been resisted sometimes with strong and violent opposition. In the face of such opposition, it is important for the church of Jesus Christ to stand together with one heart and one mind striving together for the faith of the Gospel. With the goal of seeing the church stand together in faith and unity, Paul gives his first instructions in Phil. 2:3-4: "Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind, let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others." This is easier said than done, but it really is the key to living our lives in a manner that is worth of the Gospel and seeing the church stand together in unity and love. If we are going to rise to the challenge of living Zion evangelical church ~ Scottsbluff, Nebraska Zion evangelical church ~ Scottsbluff, Nebraska Zion evangelical church ~ Scottsbluff, Nebraska Zion evangelical church ~ Scottsbluff, Nebraska unselfish lives humbly serving the needs of others, Paul tells us we need to begin to see the world the way Jesus did. Our last look into Philippians in March had us looking at a passage reflecting on the truth that Jesus who is fully God, humbled himself to become fully human so that he could humble himself even further by offering his life as the perfect sacrifice needed to take away our sin. His mindset that viewed the salvation of those who are separated from God as more important than his own life is the mindset we will need to adopt if we are going to answer the call to live lives that are worthy of the Gospel of Christ. We took a break from Philippians at the end of March to celebrate the confirmation of four of our eighth graders on Palm Sunday. One of the confirmation students, Quinton Janecek, prepared a message to share with the congregation and his fellow Confirmands. April will begin with a message on Easter Sunday about the resurrection being the reason for our hope in the Gospel. Recently, I challenged the congregation to be prepared to talk to those who don't know Jesus about the reason they choose to believe the Gospel. The sermon on Easter will be designed to encourage us to point to the fact of the resurrection as the greatest reason to believe the claims of Jesus are true. As we get back into Philippians later in April, we will be encouraged to shine like a light in a dark world. We will be encouraged to notice and follow the example set by those who are already living their lives in a manner worthy of the Gospel of Christ. My hope is that Zion truly becomes a church that increasingly shines a brighter and brighter light in our community as we learn together to live out the message of the Gospel. CIRCLE OF PRAISE: The Circle of Praise met March 14th with 44 people in attendance. Our hosts for the evening were the Bush’s, Harris's and Broadbent’s. After a delicious carry-in supper, a brief meeting was held. In old business, the chairs for the oasis have been bought and are now being used. Thank you, Claudette, for getting these for us. In new business, Pat Stricker wanted to remind everyone about the pies that the Circle of Praise sponsors for the Festival of Hope the Saturday before Father's Day. It was voted on and ap-proved that we would once again sponsor this. A sign-up sheet for pies will be put at the Welcome Center in the near future. Also, a sign-up sheet will be made for those that can help that day. In oth-er business, it was decided to purchase new microwave ovens for the kitchen. Joyce Johnston will purchase these for us. After the meeting, Al & Judy Wilson presented a pro-gram in song and told us about the Chuck Wagon Church they started. They did a wonderful job and the program was enjoyed by all. Look for details of our April meeting in the newsletter. The hosts for that evening are the Trook’s and Schmidt’s. We closed with the Lord’s Prayer. Teri Erdman
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
LADIES GUILD: President Elaine opened the meeting with 14 wom-en present. Erin Kampbell offered prayer for the many re-quests that were shared. Hymns were sung and the Happy Birthday Girl was Helen Maier. Wanda shared devotions using an Irish Theme. Minutes were read and approved. The Treasurer’s Report was given by Kathy Jay. She reported a profit of $2,407.74 from the Soup Supper and Joyce gave a report that 234 people were served. A discussion was held on the table and chairs for the Oasis. There was a motion by Kathy Trook and a second by Kathy Jay to table this until after Easter. Motion carried. Elaine informed the group we would be hosting the Lenten Service on Sunday, March 22nd. She asked for finger foods to be brought in. There will be a sign up sheet at the Welcome Center and the Saturday group will be in charge. Andee brought to our attention the need for more totes that are used with articles for members in the hospital. She found some that will work better than those she had pre-viously gotten. Andee will get more supplies for the totes and bring them to our next meeting to assemble. Refreshments were served by Wanda Henkel and Barb Steffensen. The meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer. Joyce Kautz, Secretary

MISSIONS:
Mission Prayer Partners for April are below.
Please keep these ministries, the people who run
them, and the people they minister to in your pray-
ers this month.
April 5th
: Zion Radio Broadcast on KCMI. The first
Sunday of every month, Zion’s service is broadcast
over the radio. Members of the congrega4on can
give money toward those broadcasts. If you are in-
terested in ge5ng Zion out into the community in
this way, contact Barb to see which months are s4ll
available.
April 12th
: Zion CD/DVD ministry to our shut-ins.
This is a great way to help keep our shut-ins con-
nected with the church. Pray for them and consider
what else you might be called to do to care for our
shut-ins.
April 19th
: Voice of the Martyrs. Our adopted front-
line worker is Pastor K’Shem in Vietnam. Pray for his
safety and con4nued effec4veness. Pray that many
people will be touched by his words and have the
courage to acknowledge Jesus as Savior.
April 26th
: Huron Claus with CHIEF. Na4ve Ameri-
cans have been sadly marginalized in the U.S. CHIEF
seeks to bring these ancient people to their Savior.
Pray that they will view Christ not as another West-
ern import, rather as the Messiah of all people
groups. Pray they will see how to worship Christ in
their own way, with their own unique culture. Con-
sider giving financially to this mission.
Watch the mission table for addi4onal infor-
ma4on and opportuni4es to be involved in these
outreaches and missions. There may be some re-
peats as I get in sync with Barb, but I suppose that
means that if you missed them the first 4me, you
have another chance!
Blessings,
Erin Kampbell

SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS: We are happily stuffing Easter eggs for our
Annual Easter Egg Hunt for the children that will be held on Saturday, April 4th at 1:00. We will meet in the Ministry Center with a short devotion. Remember to bring your buckets and baskets. There is a lot of candy, toys and prizes awaiting you.
Sunday School teachers/Bible School teach-ers will be having a meeting on March 22 at 2:00 in the chapel. We would like to discuss updating our Sunday School rooms as well as the Sunday School wing. We need to get ideas together, and then pre-sent them to the Church Board so we can work on these ideas this summer. Please stop by the office if you have ideas; we welcome them.
We wish you all a blessed Easter! What a glo-rious time to celebrate the death of Jesus on the cross for our sins with the greatest news being that He arose, and He lives today!! What a joy to serve Him. Thank you to everyone who donated Easter candy…how we appreciate it so much. Happy Spring, Sharon, Robin, Deb
