Client Agreement: Easter Seals: Disability Services

Although there are many nonprofit organizations in the Youngstown area, Andre and I decided to work with Easter Seals: Disability Services.

It took us a while to find the perfect nonprofit and to also work with a nonprofit that was wiling to accept our campaign we have set up for them. Easter Seals was generous enough to volunteer to let Andre and I represent them.

There were a few other nonprofits that Andre and I tried to cooperate with but it was difficult to stay on track with those nonprofits. Eventually those other nonprofits actually dropped out of the campaigning process we began building for them. This put a little bit of a damper on us, but we were able to have Easter Seals agree to working with us.

Client Interview: Jennifer Roberts

Jennifer Roberts, who is head of the marketing department of the Easter Seals Hearing and Speech Center, was gracious enough to have Andre and I interview her about Easter Seals.

Jennifer was very helpful and was able to clarify any questions I had for her. During the interview, I asked Jennifer about 12 questions regarding not just some of the history of Easter Seals, but more in depth about how the Youngstown branch of this nationally known nonprofit operates.

Jennifer and I met a couple of times to clarify some more questions that I decided to branch off of. I have kept in contact with her in multiple ways to ensure that we were both on the same page when discussing some of the questions.

Client Interview cont.

When Jennifer met Andre and I for the first time, that is when we conducted our interview with her. Here are the following questions:1. What is your mission?2. How long has Easter Seals been around in Youngstown?3. Campaigning in Easter Seals?4. How are you collaborating with similar organizations on a local, regional, or national level?5. What are the main obstacles that inhibit your fulfillment of your mission? How do you plan to overcome them?6. What are your annual goals, needs, and results? How do they compare to similar organizations in your community?7. How much turnover have you experienced of employees and board members in the last 2 years?8. To what degree have you attracted new people and new ideas to your organization and board?9. How well have you utilized your funding? How efficiently have you fulfilled your goals in recent years in relationship to the amount of funds you have raised?

10. Most for-profit organizations have recently restructured themselves in recent years to become more efficient and productive. How, if at all, are you considering (or have you implemented some version at this approach?11. How efficiently does your organization run? To what degree have you assigned day-to-day management responsibilities to a tightly run executive committee instead of relying upon your full board?12. Who are your main competitors and how do your results in recent years compare to theirs?

Each question Jennifer answered is explained throughout this proposal and is given way to implement new changes to improve the nonprofit organization as a whole.

About Easter Seals

Disability Services for those who are less fortunate

Easter Seals was founded by Edgar Allen when his son was in a bad car accident he was not able to afford the proper care for his son. Allen sold his business and began a foundation for crippled children. 20 years after that foundation was created, Allen went ahead and coined the name Easter Seals and created a campaign in order to raise money for these services. Easter Seals is now located in over 500 locations across the United States.

It was very interesting to learn how this nonprofit began from a single person who was trying to receive the proper medical care for his son. Now it’s a national nonprofit that is still growing every day.

Page 15: Easter Seals proposal.pptx-1

Goals

The goals are very similar to many nonprofits which is to gain more donors and receive more money for the nonprofit to operate.

We were able to conduct many different ideas for Jennifer in order to help the Youngstown Branch of Easter Seals with expanding therapy goals, gaining donors, and creating a better campaigning process.

Partnership

Easter Seals is able to collaborate with many different organizations in the Youngstown area. Whether they are receiving donations or referrals to help those in need of medical services.

The major partnership that was established by Easter Seals, was when they combined with Youngstown Hearing and Speech. This was a great partnership for the nonprofit because it was able to add more stability to the nonprofit in order for it run more efficiently.

+ Benefits

Benefits

Since Easter Seals partnered up with Youngstown Hearing and Speech, they were able to expand on their services. Although this was great for Easter Seals, it started to become more difficult working with their budget. With increased services came increased clientele. It is beneficial that Easter Seals is increasing their services to help more people with individual needs, but this is where Andre and I come in and try to find ways to help with the benefits as well.

Campaigns

This was a major issue for the nonprofit that Andre and I were able to help with

Although the nonprofit is national and has multiple social media accounts, Andre and I were thinking of ways to increase social media use for the Youngstown branch. Twitter was something Jennifer wanted help with.

The website for Easter Seals is already well established since it is national, but the Youngstown branch wanted help learning how to utilize their website for multiple different uses.

create a better campaign for the

Youngstown branch of Easter Seals:

Being able to attract new people has been hard for the nonprofit, so Andre and I thought that campaigning on the schools campus would be beneficial for this nonprofit.

Campaigning

When it comes to incorporating data and diagrams in your slidedoc, you needto be cognizant of the meaning they create and how to make that clear.

DataData isn’t really just about the numbers—it’s about the meaning behind the numbers. The conclusions. The insights. The actions humans will take because of the numbers. It’s your job to uncover these elements.

When incorporating data, don’t just stick a chart on a page. Determine the findings and narrative of the data and include prose around that.

Remember, your copy needs to be clear and succinct—the same applies to your data. Unfortunately, presentation software has a wealth of buttons, bullets, lines, ticks, gradients, borders, fills, and other chart decorations that can quickly overwhelm the data on your slide. Avoid using any unnecessary information so that your message will come through more clearly.

Social MediaEaster Seal is a national non-profit organization so on a national level they have no problem engaging people on social media.

Far as the branches in Youngstown they do not have any Facebook, twitter or Instagram.

Communication

Communication is Key!

Being able to communicate efficiently and effectively is important for a nonprofit to gain more donors and to basically build up the nonprofit as a whole. Whether they are communicating on the website, through social media, different fundraisers, and other campaigns around the Youngstown area. Easter Seals definitely needs help in this department when communicating to different groups of people. Since Andre and I are both communication majors, that is our strong suit. We were able to think of ways to increase communication amongst the nonprofit in order for them to reach certain goals.

Page 34: Easter Seals proposal.pptx-1

Obstacles

The way they utilize their funding depends on how much they are raising. But even then they have to go through obstacles because when people donate they may require Easter Seals to use the funds on specific things. (ex. Military veteran)

In the last 2 years Easter Seals has had a huge turnover in volunteers and board members.

Alot of people help and leave right out but that has helped them with new ideas from new people.

There is a constant change and additional members. The cause is obviously because people volunteer. But the cause is because there has been a lot of turnover.

New Ideas

Andre and I were able to come up with a few new ideas for the nonprofit Easter Seals and to also help with the Youngstown Hearing and Speech Center

Help Jennifer and other members understand the use of Twitter and how to appropriately use it.

Reach out to new members, spreading campaigns on college campus and other businesses in the surrounding area.

Collaborate with the national level more by understanding what they are using on Twitter and what implementations they are making.

Increase donor size and donations.
