Easter is the most important cycle in the Christian calendar since it leads up to the commemoration of the death and resurrection of Jesus. It starts six weeks before with Carnival and Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of lent which proceeds until Easter Sunday.

- This is the last opportunity for feasting before the period of lent.

- Carnival is a festive season which occurs on Tuesday immediately before Lent.

- Carnival involves a public celebration or parade, masks and public street party.
