Edition 13 – 4 May 2017 Welcome back to Term 2 everyone. This term teachers will be completing some small assessments and learning task evaluations in preparation for Semester 1 written student progress reports. Reports will be sent home with your child in week 9. Students in Years 3 and 5 will sit NAPLAN in Week 3. NAPLAN will start on Tuesday 9 May with Language Conventions and Writing, continue on Wednesday 10 May with Reading, and Numeracy will take place on Thursday 11 May. Friday 12 May will be used as a catch up day for any students who missed the NAPLAN tests due to illness or other circumstances. Letters have been sent out to parents of students in Years 3 and 5 containing all the information about the NAPLAN procedures. Exemption and withdrawal requirements are outlined in the letter as well. Information is also available online at http://www.nap.edu.au/naplan/parent-carer-support. NAPLAN can be a very stressful time for all so during these days your children sitting these assessments may need some extra tender loving care and understanding. We wish them all well and only ask that they do the best they can do. Easter Hat Parade What a fun time everyone had at our Easter Hat Parade on our last day of Term 1. Thank you everyone for getting in there and helping with those fabulous creations and for coming along to support your children. Even the Easter Bunny had a great time and left lots of goodies for all the children. Thank you Easter Bunny. A huge thank you to our P&C for the yummy Easter raffle as well. It was a happy and colourful school community time. ANZAC Commemorations We are so proud of you Woy Woy Public School. Over 60 of our students turned out on ANZAC Day in their school uniform to represent our school in the Woy Woy ANZAC march. Thank you to the parents and carers who supported them by bringing them and joining us in the service. A huge thank you goes to Mrs Ceaser for being there to organise our students ready for the march and to Mrs Williams, Ms McLean and Mrs Tutauha for caring for them during the ANZAC service. Children involved in the march will receive a special recognition certificate at the Week 4 K-6 assembly. Parents will receive a special invitation to attend.

What a fun time everyone had at our Easter Hat Parade on our last day of Term 1. Thank you everyone for getting in there and helping with those fabulous creations and for coming along to support your children. ANZAC Commemorations

We are so proud of you Woy Woy Public School. Over 60 of our students turned out on ANZAC Day in their school

uniform to represent our school in the Woy Woy ANZAC march. We had our school ANZAC service on Wednesday 26 April. Once again we had the ‘National Service 1951-72 Re-enactment Unit’ attend to be part of our commemorative service to remember all those who went to war to ensure that Australia remained a free country. Some returned but many gave the ultimate sacrifice. “Lest we forget.“ We are very proud of how respectful and understanding our students are. Thank you Mrs Ceaser for your organisation around the service and to everyone for making it a moving commemoration.

Staff Development Day

Our school staff enjoyed a full day of professional learning on Monday 24 April. When teachers are involved in professional learning it has a direct flow-on effect for all our students. During professional learning teachers reflect and improve on their teaching methodology then take this back to their classroom environments. You will see how teachers were involved on the Staff Development Day on the official WWPS Facebook page.

The Preschool Launches Storypark

Our Preschool is ready to launch Storypark. This program allows the Preschool staff to directly communicate highlights of a child’s day at Preschool and directly send it to parent via their email link from storypark - pictures and all. How wonderful to see what is happening in your child’s world at Preschool during the day. Storypark also allows parents to make comments and communicate back to teachers as well. The world is truly at your fingertips these days. We hope all our Preschool parents enjoy Storypark and would love to hear your feedback about how it is going.

Annual Report

The Annual Report for 2016 is complete and you can find a copy of it on the school website from Monday 8 May 2017. The report gives you valuable information about how our school is achieving the improvement focus set out in our school plan for 2015-2017. It includes information about the school, NAPLAN results and how funding has been allocated and used to improve student outcomes.

Brisbane Waters Secondary College Parent Forums

The Brisbane Water Secondary College is holding its annual forums to inform parents about their policies, programs and achievements and ask parents for their input into future directions for the Umina and Woy Woy campuses. This year the forums are open to all parents in our school from Preschool to Year 6. It is a great opportunity to find out about your local high school campuses and to ask questions and offer suggestions and ideas that you would like to put forward. These forums will be held on Tuesday 30 May and Wednesday 31 May, Week 6 of the school term. The forums will be held from 9:00am - 9:30am and

Gentle Reminder about School Costs for 2017

Many thanks to all of you for continuing to pay off your 2017 school costs. Now might be a good time to check up on what school costs you have paid for 2017 and to make sure that if your child is involved in attending the major excursions of Jenolan Caves,Great Aussie Bush Camp and Canberra you are up to date with your payments. How quickly time goes and in no time the excursion date will be here. We have attached the 2017 list of costs for each class as a reminder for you.

Maintenance Works around the School

Some small maintenance works are being carried out at the school. We apologise for the inconvenience with the painting of our school office – we will have a more professional look to our school office very soon!. We are hoping for it to be completed within the next week. Later in the term the front wooden stairs will be replaced with concrete stairs and access to the front office will be unavailable through the front doors for a couple of days. We will send an alert out on the School App advising when this will be happening.

Have a happy fortnight.

President Report

Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a nice relaxing break. Last term was busy with the Fluoro Disco and Easter Hat Parade and both were very successful. The P&C team have been outstanding with organising and running both events and I would like to say thank you to them for their hard work. I also would like to say thank you to all our sponsors who chipped in with great community spirit and donated items towards our disco and Easter hat raffle. These sponsors were Coles Woy Woy, Crazy Bargain Warehouse, Speedy Keys, Amcal Chemist and Bendigo Bank Ettalong.

The next P&C meeting will be held on 10 May at 7pm in the staff room - hope to see you all there.

Fundraising Report

Welcome back to Term 2, we hope you all had a relaxing break.

Looking back at Term 1 we have had some amazing support from the students, parents, staff and community, helping to raise funds for the school with our FLUORO Disco and Easter Raffle. They were a huge success and we would like to offer a HUGE thank you to everyone who helped to make these events so special.

This term we would like to start off by helping our students show their mums just how special they are and how much they love them.

We will be hosting a Mothers’ Day stall on Tuesday 9 May and Thursday 11 May. The students can purchase gifts ranging from $1 to $5. Please see the note for more details.
