We were very happy to have raised over $9800 through our High Tea and Fashion Show last November as well as through fundraising by individual team members, their families and friends. This money will be used for breast cancer programs and research. We sincerely thank the generous residents of Village Walk for supporting Paint the Village Purple by purchasing purple bows and tribute cards in honor of / in memory of those with cancer. The funds raised will be donated to the American Cancer Society for programs and research directed at all cancers. The Cancer Support Group meets monthly to provide a forum for those who have been impacted by cancer - survivors, caregivers and anyone who would like to be involved in the fight. We offer support, information and resources, and sometimes just a few words of encouragement from “someone who has been there.” Our meetings are scheduled for the second Wednesday of the month at 4:00 PM in the Town Center. Cocktails and Conversation! Friday, April 14th • 7:00 p.m.

On the second Friday of the month, Village Walk residents come together at 7:00 p.m. at the Town Center to socialize, meet new people, and have fun. It’s informal, there is no agenda, and no planned activities. Just some old-fashioned conversation and sharing. We would especially like to invite

new residents so we can get to know our neighbors in this amazing community. This is a great way to meet people and share information. No need to RSVP. Just come and enjoy your fellow Village Walk neighbors for an evening of relaxation. Please bring a snack to share if you wish, what you’d like to drink, and

any paper products you might need. Hope to see you there! If you have any questions please contact Brenda Peters at [email protected]

HOOKED ON BOOKSWEDNESDAY, APRIL 12, 2017 We will meet at 1 pm in the Hibiscus Room at the Town Center to discuss “Commonwealth” by Ann Patchett.

One Sunday afternoon in Southern California, Bert Cousins shows up at Franny Keating’s christening party uninvited. Before evening falls, he has kissed Franny’s mother, Beverly—thus setting in motion the dissolution of their marriages and the joining of two families. Spanning five decades, Commonwealth explores how this chance encounter reverberates through the lives of the four parents and six children involved. Spending summers together in Virginia, the Keating and Cousins children forge a lasting bond that is based on a shared disillusionment with their parents and the strange and genuine affection that grows up between them.Hooked on Books I has a waiting list for those who want to join. New C h a m p i o n s C row n e d… O l d C h a m p i o n s C row n e d Ag a i nThe 2017 Resident’s Cup ended with four great finals and a stunning junior’s exhibition match. Resident’s Cup is a format where your performance determines how far you climb. After the first day, based on results, the “bracket” creates an organic split and establishes two tournaments in one; The Silver Challenge for 2.5 - 3.0 level players and the Resident’s Cup for the more advanced players. By the second Sunday, the event is crowning four new Champions; Ladies Silver Challenge, Men’s Silver Challenge, Ladies Resident’s Cup and Men’s Residents Cup. All winner’s received beautiful 16” Silver Plates and the runners-up, a smaller version. All Champions have their name added to the perpetual trophy, The Resident’s Cup.

For the Ladies Silver Challenge, Jane Spillane and Cheryl Glenn were staring down a very determined Hope Malin and Vera Stec. It was a see-saw battle up to late stages of the first set. In the end, the will to win favored Malin and Stec. Next up was the highly anticipated Men’s Silver Challenge. Jim Massey and Don Spillane were thought to have a slight edge over Doug Jarvis and his partner Jerry Daly. Not so fast…Jarvis and Daly were crowned 2017 Silver Challenge Champions.

Next up were four elite junior athletes from Gomez Tennis Academy in Naples. In mixed doubles pairings, Mayuka Aikawa (17), from Yokohama, Japan, took the court with VillageWalk’s own Marlon Omdahl (14). They would take on Blu Baker (15) of Portsmouth, England, and Vered Vasilyev (17) from Tel Aviv, Israel. Meeting for an exhibition set, the teams agreed on “no ad” scoring with any game points being served/received, girl/girl or boy/boy. When the two teams hit 6-6, the team’s petitioned the officials to allow them to play out the deuce points…at the urging of the crowd, the petition was granted. After a couple of back and forth deuce points, and with Marlon serving add-in, all four players turned the match point into a doubles clinic. It’s safe to say, no one wanted it to end. But end it did with Marlon and Mayuka taking the win.

It was back to business with the Ladies finals for the Resident Cup. Defending Champions, Barb Hess and Betty Zink were back and in great form. Looking across the net, Barb Fortunato and Joan Dilkey were determined to dethrone the current champs. In the end, the current champions were able to hold on to grab the title, 2017 Ladies Resident’s Cup Champions.

The Men’s Title defending champions, Walt Peckinpaugh and Mike Smart came in as favorites. Having survived Saturday’s

semis, Peckinpaugh and Smart would meet their rivals from 2016, David Bushey and Steve Mulloy. Held to just one game in the second set, Bushey and Mulloy would again congratulate Mike Smart and Walt Peckinpaugh as VillageWalk’s 2017 Men’s Resident’s Cup Champions.

New Telephone Guest Call in SystemWe are very excited to present to you our new proposed telephone guest call in system. Please note, it does not replace our current system. You will still have the ability to add guests by computer. It will not allow you to remove or restrict guests. It is strictly to call in temporary guests that will arrive within 48 hours. It’s very simple to use and will eliminate unanswered calls to the guardhouse or worrying that they won’t hear your message.

The telephone number for the new voice feature to log in guests for Dwelling Live is 239-309-7174. The owner calls that number from a phone number listed on their profile. The system recognizes the number and asks the caller if they wish to enter a guest for today and prompts them to press 1, or for tomorrow, press 2. The system then asks if they wish to enter a guest using first and last name or by business name. Again, you will be prompted to press 1 or 2. If entering a guest by first and last name, the system prompts the caller to enter first name followed by # and then last name followed by #. The request is entered and the system disconnects the call. The system automatically recognizes your registered phone number and assigns your guest to your profile. This adds another level of safety by not allowing strangers to call and have guests entered without authorization.

It appears to have difficulty recognizing some names (maybe it’s my southern accent). I am told that it learns (like Siri or Dragon Software) and gets better with time. It also creates a wave or MP4 file that is saved to your profile so if the name isn’t recognized, the guard can press play and hear the name of the guest as you recorded it.

Alligators ARE in the LakesGators are found in all bodies of water throughout Florida and our lake system is no

different. They are a natural part of Florida and a benefit to Florida’s ecosystem. Some of our gators are quite large, others are not.

Naturally shy and afraid of human beings, alligators will avoid contact with people. Feeding alligators will alter their behavior and natural fear of people. Never feed the alligators. Not only is it against the law ($500 fine), but they will associate YOU with FOOD. They will return to your bank looking for that free handout again. They might even come up to your home and demand a handout. At that point the alligator is dangerous and must be destroyed, and is a direct result of this interference with Nature.

The water levels are low this time of year and alligators naturally like to sun on the banks. Pets should always be on a leash but pay special attention when walking your pets close to the water. Also, we love to have visitors however, you should educate them on safe habits near the water. Do not let young children near the water without adult supervision.

If you see someone feeding the alligators and wish to report it, please call the Wildlife Conservancy at 866-392-4286. Changing an alligator’s behavior through feeding creates a danger for everyone. If someone suspects a gator has been altered and is a danger, again contact the Wildlife Conservancy. They have a special program that deals with nuisance alligators and will assist you promptly.

• WILD LIFE- Please do not feed ANY animals. Do not place trash out any earlier than the morning of pick up…it attracts animals.

• Use Caution while kayaking and canoeing in our waterways. Remember, swimming is not allowed.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Comcast Town Hall information sessions on March 8th and March 22nd. The presentation has been posted on the secure section of our website at: http://www.villagewalkbonita.com. Click on Committee Reports in the lower left column, enter your phone number and password and click on Committee Reports. Click on Cable Presentation, and then select Town Hall Presentation March 8 2017 for Website Publication. Please remember that this

information is not to be shared outside of VillageWalk as our contract contains a confidentiality clause.

Due to the delay in our budget to finalize our landscaping contract, the cable team was able to move up the installation timeline from January 2018 to June 2017 in order to bring the savings to you sooner. Most of you will find that the savings you realize in your Comcast retail bill will significantly offset this year’s increase in HOA fees due to cable, landscaping, irrigation and mulch. Comcast will review all of our retail accounts beginning June 1st and apply credits for equipment and services covered under the new bulk agreement retroactive to June 1st regardless of when your equipment is installed. Keep in mind that it could take up to 2 billing cycles for you to see the credit.

You will be able to call Comcast beginning June 1st to schedule your appointment for installation. Please keep in mind that appointments cannot be scheduled prior to this date per our contractual agreement. If you prefer assistance in person, Comcast personnel will be in the Town Center June 5th through June 9th from 11AM to 3PM to schedule your appointment. Remember – the technician will bring all of your needed equipment and remove the old equipment and return it for you. No need for you to return anything at the Xfinity store!

Seasonal Residents:When you leave for the season, put your Comcast account on seasonal hold as you normally do. When Comcast reviews your account beginning June 1st, they will remove the seasonal hold on equipment and services under our bulk contract. Comcast has also advised us that you should not unplug any of their equipment as you will miss important updates that they send. Comcast will replace any of their equipment damaged by lightning strikes. But don’t forget to unplug your televisions and computers as these are not covered by Comcast. One month prior to your return to VillageWalk, contact Comcast at 1-800-XFINITY to schedule your installation. You will not be able to schedule your appointment more than one month in advance.

Last Chance Informational SessionApril 13, 2017 • 1PM Town Center

In case you missed the prior meetings, there will be one last session. This is your chance to learn about the details of the new Comcast agreement as well as getting your questions answered.

From Town Manager: I would like to thank all of the volunteers that helped with the drinks and snacks at the election and annual meeting on the 15th. I would also like to thank the Election Committee for countless hours of volunteered time and all of the counters. It was an absolute success thanks to all of you!
