Thank You Cards Exhibitors– Please do not forget to get your thank you cards in the mail. We have nu-
merous people to thank for their time, sponsorship, and continued dedication to our
programs. Remember to not only thank your trophy and award sponsors, but also con-
sider sending a note to your club leaders, fair board members, and anyone who stepped
in and gave you extra help in your preparations for this year.
Every year the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame recognizes volunteers or staff who have made a significant contribution to
the Iowa 4-H program or were pioneers of Iowa 4-H. This year East Pottawattamie County would like to recog-
nize Carla (Carrol) Johnk.
Carla’s name has been added to the plaque that will stay on display in the East Pottawattamie County Extension
Office and her certificate and gift will be mailed to the family.
Carla (Carroll) Johnk was a lifelong supporter of 4-H. She was a 9-year member of the Monroe Merrymakers in
Shelby County. Later she became a 4-H leader, Carla was a leader in both boys and girls 4-H clubs. She was an
East Pottawattamie County 4-H leader of the L.L.L.L’s, Layton Lincoln Leading Livewires.
Carla served on numerous committees that supported 4-H. She was an active member of the County Youth Com-
mittee even after her children had graduated out of the 4-H program, allowing her to connect with current 4-
Hers. Current county 4-H members remember seeing Carla walking through the barns as a herdsmanship judge
and always being present in the sheep & goat barn on show day as well as in the stands during the Saturday beef
show. Multiple 4-Hers have fond memories of Carla as she spent countless hours with the rest of the County
Youth Committee judging record books, and the 4-Hers would read her comments and take her constructive criti-
cism to heart and learn from what she had to say.
Carla and her husband Kent raised three children - Ryne, Brittni, and Ty. Carla was an active member of the Wal-
nut community and involved in several community organizations such as the Presbyterian Church, American Le-
gion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Optimist Club and she was the treasurer of her township.
