Making Tithes and Gifts During the Summer

As we move into the second half of 2015, the Finance Committee would like to thank everyone for a successful REACH journey, and even more importantly, a great 6 months of successful ministry.

Because of your faithful giving, ECUMC continues to serve the community through Family Promise, VBS, our food pantry, MUST, disaster relief kits, Stephen Ministry, weekly worship services, amazing music, multiple small groups, adult Sunday School, and programs for children, youth and young adults – just to name a few!

The summer months are typically slower months for giving, as families travel and may be absent from worship for many reasons. So, we thought this would be a good time to remind you of the many ways you can continue to be vital a part of the life-giving ministries of ECUMC – from home or away!

• Worship - continue to offer your pledge to the operating budget and your REACH pledge during worship.

• U.S. Mail - Drop your planned contribution in the US Mail. Stop by the Church office for a self-addressed, stamped envelope before leaving town.

• Friends - Entrust a friend to place your giving envelope in the offering on your behalf

• Online Giving - This is a secure, “no-hassle” approach for the internet savvy. Go to The City and give your planned contribution. Take a moment, offer a prayer for your contributions use for God’s purposes, and know you are a part of important ministry even when you are away.

• Bank transfer - This may be a great time to consider a regular monthly withdrawal from your bank account.

Again, we thank you for your generous support of God’s ministry through ECUMC!

Joyfully in God’s Service, Joe Hayes, Finance Committee Chairman

One More Chance for Usher Training

On July 12, you will have the opportunity to learn more about courses we may be offering for 2015-16. We will offer Disciple Fast Track Beta 2, since we were one of only 300 churches nationally who offered Disciple Fast Track last year. Last year’s participants will be wearing special “DISCIPLE” nametags so you can identify them and ask questions. These are the courses we are planning to offer at this time:

1. Disciple Fast Track – 24 weeks reading and studying Scripture from Genesis to Revelation.

2. Disciple II – 32 weeks studying Genesis, Exodus, Luke, and Acts.

3. Disciple III – 32 weeks studying the Prophets and the Letters of Paul.

4. Disciple IV – 32 weeks studying the Writings, Poetry, Wisdom Literature, and Revelation.

5. Jesus In the Gospels – 30 weeks studying the Life and Teachings of Jesus in the four Gospels.

6. A Short-term Disciple Course

If you have questions, contact Lisa Hunt, Disciple Coordinator, or Jim Perry, Minister of Congregational Care and Discipleship at [email protected] or go online to Cokesbury.com and click on “Disciple”.

 Critical Need for Blood Donations

There is a critical shortage of blood at this time in the wake of the holiday weekend. More accidents increase the demand for blood. Further, many who

would give are on vacation.

On Monday, July 13 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, ECUMC will sponsor a BLOOD DRIVE in the basement of the Activities Building. Please consider giving at this drive, even if you do not normally do so. Your donation can save up to three lives.

Visit www.redcrossblood.org and enter the sponsor code EACUMC, or call 1-800-RED-CROSS to schedule your appointment. Email us at [email protected] with questions. There also will be sign up sheets in the Narthex on Sunday, July 12.

Give the gift of life so others can live!

But, we will still have an opportunity to celebrate our new pastor! This event will be rescheduled for a later date in July in order for our guests of honor to both attend.

There’s no alternate date set yet, but do keep your eyes out for more info on The City, Facebook, the bulletins, and Epistle!

We hope you’ll join us in welcoming Pastor Nancy and Steve later this month!
