Sustainable Communities Grant Theme

• Improving public health and safety and reduce energy use by providing bicycle and pedestrian connections;

• Promoting social equity and access to opportunity by revitalizing minority and/or low income neighborhoods adjacent to committed commuter rail stations;

• Plan for affordable, energy efficient housing adjacent to committed Phase 1 commuter rail stations.

Affordable Housing Working Group

• Provide technical review of Shimberg Center’s affordable housing analysis for all 12 stations

• Recommend strategies and financing opportunities to encourage the provision of needed affordable housing

Outreach and Equity Advisory Group

• Advise the Consortium on how to create an inclusive planning process

• Help develop strategies to engage traditionally underrepresented groups

DeBary

1. Complete an Affordable/Workforce Housing Plan

2. Design Pedestrian & Bicycle connections to the SunRail station

3. Complete a Master Stormwater Plan along US 17-92 to incentivize Transit Oriented Development (TOD) at their SunRail station

Seminole County (Sanford)

1. Plan for core of commerce and sustainable compact urban development

2. Develop TOD criteria including a mix of jobs and housing types for an area with a low income and high minority population.

Seminole County (Altamonte Springs)

1. Partner with predominately African American East Altamonte neighborhood to develop a station area plan similar to Sanford plan, including bicycle/pedestrian connections between the station and neighborhoods

Longwood

1. Design pedestrian/bicycle friendly facilities to connect SunRail to jobs and neighborhoods within the 1/2 mile walk 1/3 mile bike shed

2. Develop a station area plan to identify market/redevelopment opportunities, create niche developments, and expand existing service industry

Orlando (LYNX Central Station)

1. Improve Pedestrian and bicycle connectivity between LYNX Central Station and the Paramore District

2. Provide direct access to affordable housing between LYNX Central Station and the Paramore and Callahan communities

3. Create opportunities for low income neighborhoods to access regional commerce with two roadway extensions and ancillary public infrastructure at vacant Amway Center location. New high tech urban mixed-use “Creative Village” will feature BRT service options to Paramore and Callahan Districts

1. Development of Transportation Design for Livable Communities (TDLC) standards

The Shimberg Center at UF

1. Conduct an affordable housing study of the 12 SunRail stops to determine affordable housing needs

2. Formulate a strategy to lessen cost burden to regional households spending more than 45% of their income on housing and transportation costs combined
