eArmyU is revolutionizing the Army and redefining the online learning industry

“Through [eArmyU], the Army is ‘getting its arms around the future’…This transformation may be quieter than building the combat vehicle of

the future, but is apt to be just as revolutionary.”

Military Technology Magazine, Vol. 6, Issue 2

“The Army’s five-year, $453 million e-learning program is providing more than a boost to soldiers’ education opportunities and morale.

It’s also helping to establish online education as a viable market...Ultimately, it will be seen as a seminal event in the e-

learning industry.”

Washington Technology Magazine, July 2001

Within 10 short months, concrete results are pouring in

At midnight on Day One, soldiers lined up outside of education centers for the chance to be part of eArmyU

Today, eArmyU has –• Served as a retention tool — nearly 15% of students have reenlisted to be

eligible for eArmyU

• Reached a new population of soldier-students —

– About 60% had not ever participated in Army education programs previously

– Nearly 40% are returning after a gap in attendance

• Become the learning mode of choice — given options, the convenience of online learning is overwhelmingly preferred by soldiers

The main attraction is the chance to go to college while serving in the Army

Page 19: EArmyU: EDUCAUSE Presentation Indianapolis, IN – October 30, 2001.

19

Soldiers believe that this is “one of the best things the Army has done” for them

“I am “full speed ahead” in the RES 399 course, and am soooooo excited that I can hardly stand myself. I even received confirmation that my book was sent yesterday…Everyone at AUAO has been just great. This is turning out to be a wonderful experience.”

Sergeant First Class John Nelson, Fort Campbell

“ I think the program is great. It presents an opportunity for me to serve my country and also achieve my personal goals.”

Sergeant Christopher M. Jones, Fort Benning

“I haven’t taken a college course in 6 years — Have been a Platoon Sergeant back-to-back in two different divisions — finally have a chance to earn my degree on my own time.”

Infantry Sergeant First Class Fort Hood

“The program is designed to enable soldiers to go to school online in the military regardless of where they are. If they are here at the post or in Bosnia, Korea or anywhere overseas, they will always have access to college classes.”

Staff Sergeant Keva Wallace, Fort Hood
