Primary Edition 2016
Vivian D. Brown, Editor Republican Party of Bexar County
Since my last column in this publication, your Bexar County Republican Party has scored a breakthrough victory on San Antonio’s Southside. In a stunning upset, John Lujan was elected State Representative for the 118th district – a district that had been held by Democrats for decades.
How did we do it? We turned out our conservative base. We found the right candidate in John Lujan, a conservative, retired firefighter, small-business own-er. We showed the Hispanic voters, who make up the majority on the Southside, with our candidate and with our conservative message – that we share their values.
Despite what Democrat pundits say, this was not an isolated incident. Since November of 2014 we have won 91 percent of all contested races in Bexar County.
And this is just the beginning. Our Republican Primary is almost here, with ear-ly voting underway February 16 and Election Day on March 1. We all know the presidential election is at the top of the ticket, but there are many other im-portant races on the ballot. I urge you to vote the entire ballot from President all the way down to precinct chair.
After the polls close on Election Day, you also have the opportunity to shape your county, state, and national Party by attending your Precinct Conven-tion. Precinct Conventions are held at your polling location immediately after the polls close, and it’s at these meetings where you can truly see the power of one vote. The conventions are where delegates and alternates to District Con-vention are elected and where resolutions are passed that go on to shape the Republican Party Platform.
Your involvement is key to the success of the party from local elections to the national political scene. When you attend your precinct convention; serve as an election judge or poll watcher; participate in phone banking and block walking; or support us financially, you are helping us continue to grow the infrastructure of the party and build on the incredible momentum we have.
It’s been a good year for Republicans in Bexar County, but we have more to do. We need to continue growing the party and moving forward to work togeth-er, turn out the vote, and ultimately win in November.
I’m so honored to be your Chairman and I look forward to making Bexar even redder as we march towards November and a landslide victory.
