MEASURING THE OPENING

Measure each window, even if they appear to be the same size.Use extreme accuracy when tak-ing measurements.

STEP 2

SASH OPENING WIDTH. For sash opening width, take an inside measurement of the framefrom side jamb to side jamb. Do not measure from jamb liner to jamb liner. Measure inthree locations: top, middle and bottom. Use the smallest measurement of the three andround down to nearest 1/8". Record this measurement on the worksheet provided.

STEP 1

SILL ANGLE. Eagle Double-HungReplacement Sash Kits are built to fityour specific window frame. The sillangle must be specified to cut angles forjamb liners and to provide you with theproper sill dam.

The easiest way to measure the sill angleis to use an angle finder available atmost hardware stores. Set angle finderon sill and record the angle on the work-sheet provided on page 5.

STEP 4

CHECK TO SEE IF FRAME ISSQUARE. In many cases you willfind that one side of the windowor the other has settled, pulling theunit out of square. This will affectany replacement sash placed inthat opening. If the measurementsvary, you may need to adjust thesash opening height measured inStep 3.

A). Measure from the inside cornerof the sill and side jamb on theright side of the unit, up to theinside corner of the side jamb andhead jamb on the left side. Repeatthis step from the opposite corners.

B). If the measurements taken are within 1/8", then the unit issquare. If the measurements are greater than 1/8", then adjust asneeded.

SASH OPENING HEIGHT. Carefully measure the inside height ofthe sash opening from the inside of the head jamb to where theinside face of the bottom sash meets the sill behind the stool.Measure in three locations: left, right and center. Use the small-est measurement of the three and round down to the nearest1/8". Record this measurement on the worksheet provided.

STEP 5 - FULL INSECT SCREEN OPTION - MEASUREMENT

MEASURING THE INSECT SCREEN

INSECT SCREEN OPENING WIDTH. Measure the distance betweenthe outside jamb casing. Subtract 1/8" from this dimension. This isyour insect screen width.

INSECT SCREEN OPENINGHEIGHT. Measure the dis-tance from the inside ofthe outside head casingdown to the sill where theinsect screen will rest.Subtract 1/8" from thisdimension. This is yourinsect screen height.

CROSS BAR LOCATION.Measure from the top ofthe insect screen openingheight, down to the cen-ter of the check rail.

STEP 5 - HALF INSECT SCREEN OPTION - MEASUREMENT

HALF INSECT SCREEN WIDTH. Measure the distancebetween each jamb liner (opening width) and add 7/8".This is your overall insect screen width.

HALF INSECT SCREEN HEIGHT. Measure the distance between the bottomof top sash and sill (opening height). Subtract 5/16" from this dimension.Choose style: flanges on 2 sides or flanges on 3 sides.
