glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death foreveryone.
1$or it seemed appropriate for Him, for whom came all things, and throughwhom came all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the authorof their salvation through sufferings.
11$or both He who sanctifies and those who receive sanctification come from
one $ather* for which reason He does not feel ashamed to call thembrethren,
1#9herefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself li(ewisealso partoo( of the same, that through death He might render powerless him
who had the power of death, namely, the devil,
1&
and might free those who through fear of death felt sub@ect to slavery alltheir lives.
1)$or assuredly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to thedescendant of <braham.
1+9herefore, He had to become made li(e His brethren in all things, so that
He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining toGod, to ma(e propitiation for the sins of the people.
1/$or since He Himself received temptation in that which He has suffered, He
has the capability to come to the aid of those who undergo temptation.
19herefore, holy brethren, parta(ers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus,
the <postle and High Priest of our confession*
2
He remained faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Doses also remainedfaithful in all His house.
!$or we count Him worthy of more glory than Doses, by @ust so much as thebuilder of the house has more honor than the house.
#$or someone builds every house, but God builds all things.
&ow Doses remained faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimonyof those things which became spo(en later*
)but Christ remained faithful as a on over His houseLwhose house we havebecome, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm untilthe end.
1&<nd so, having patiently waited, he obtained the promise.
1)$or men swear by one greater than themselves, and with them an oathgiven as confirmation proves an end of every dispute.
1+0n the same way God, desiring even more to show to the heirs of thepromise the unchangeableness of His purpose, interposed with an oath,
1/
so that by two unchangeable things in which God has proclaimed itimpossible, we who have ta(en refuge would have strong encouragement tota(e hold of the hope set before us.
19his hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and
steadfast and one which enters within the veil,
2where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a highpriest forever according to the order of Delchiede(.
1$or this Delchiede(, (ing of alem, priest of the Dost High God, who met<braham as he returned from the slaughter of the (ings and blessed him,
2to whom also <braham apportioned a tenth part of all the spoils, was first of
all, by the translation of his name, (ing of righteousness, and then also (ing
of alem, which means (ing of peace.
!Bithout father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning
of days nor end of life, but made li(e the on of God, He remains a priestperpetually.
#ow observe how great this man seemed to <braham, the patriarch, gave atenth of the choicest spoils.
&<nd those indeed of the sons of %evi who receive the priest's office have
commandment in the %aw to collect a tenth from the people, namely, fromtheir brethren, although these have descended from <braham.
)7ut the one whose genealogy has not traced from them collected a tenth
from <braham and blessed the one who had the promises.
+7ut without any dispute the greater blesses the lesser.
/0n this case mortal men receive tithes, but in that case one receives them,
of whom we witnessed that he lives on.
<nd, so to spea(, through <braham even %evi, who received tithes, paidtithes,
1for he e?isted in the loins of his father when Delchiede( met him.
11ow if perfection came through the %evitical priesthood 4for on the basis ofit the people received the %aw5, what further need did we have for another
priest to arise according to the order of Delchiede(, and not receive
designation according to the order of <aronA
12$or when the priesthood becomes changed, of necessity there ta(es place a
change of law also.
1!$or the one concerning whom these things people have spo(en belongs toanother tribe, from which no one has officiated at the altar.
1#$or it has become evident that our %ord had descended from Judah, a tribe
with reference to which Doses spo(e nothing concerning priests.
22so much the more also Jesus has become the guarantee of a bettercovenant.
2!9he former priests, on the one hand, e?isted in greater numbers because
death prevented them from continuing,
2#but Jesus, on the other hand, because He continues forever, holds Hispriesthood permanently.
2&9herefore He has the ability to save forever those who draw near to God
through Him, since He always lives to ma(e intercession for them.
2)$or it seemed fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent,
undefiled, separated from sinners and e?alted above the heavens*
2+who does not need daily, li(e those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, firstfor His own sins and then for the sins of the people, because this He did
#having a golden altar of incense and the ar( of the covenant covered on allsides with gold, in which stood a golden @ar holding the manna, and <aron's
rod which budded, and the tables of the covenant*
&and above it appeared the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy
seat* but of these things we cannot now spea( in detail.
)ow when people have prepared these things, the priests continually enter
the outer tabernacle performing the divine worship,
+but into the second, only the high priest enters once a year, not without
ta(ing blood, which he offers for himself and for the sins of the peoplecommitted in ignorance.
/9he Holy pirit signifies this, that the way into the holy place has not yet
become disclosed while the outer tabernacle still stands,
which serves as a symbol for the present time. <ccordingly both gifts andsacrifices priests offered which cannot ma(e the worshiper perfect in
conscience,
1since they relate only to food and drin( and various washings, regulationsfor the body imposed until a time of reformation.
117ut when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, Heentered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with
hands, in other words, not of this creation*
12and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood,He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
1!$or if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprin(ling those
who have become defiled sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh,
1#how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal piritoffered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead
