EDITORIAL.....Popular Master Of The Multitude

As a realised master, RamakrishnaParamhansa felt the pulse of the people, their spiritual whereabouts, their amne-sia of essential divinity and their com-pulsive obsession for sense-gratificationand material possessions. Accordingly,he prescribed remedy in progressive, di-gestible chunks. So his curative remedynever became worse than the disease.

Although Self-realisation isthe sole purpose of life and renuncia-tion is the key to divine realisation, itcannot be adopted by the majority. Sohe advised mental or inward renuncia-tion which can be more easily adoptedby all. Once the spirit of renunciationenters the subconscious, the umbilicalcord is smoothly severed from delusivereality and lo and behold, Self-realisationblossoms forth.

The gravitational pull of die-hard worldly attachment drags us downand blinds us to the true mission of lifeand our final destination. Cosmic delu-sion is so blinding that we overlook uni-versal suffering and absolute imperma-nence of all worldly things. God is near-est of the near and dearest of the dear. But until and unless we seek Him aloneHe keeps us engrossed in endless de-sires. As an adequate antidoteRamakrishna prescribed cultivation ofdivine love for God, our innermost es-sence of being. The more we cling toHim the more we get detached fromworldly attachments.

Serving our own expanded Selfgives birth to divine love by which theAbsolute is always attracted. His na-ture is love, the centripetal force of cre-ation. Divine love between devotee andGod is a transcendental joy for everwhich is inseparable from Brahmn, cos-mic consciousness.

Unconditional service of manis for Ramakrishna, the divine service ofGod. But instead of being pitiful and

egoistic one should be loving and worship-ful of suffering humanity in which too, theomnipresent is present. It’s an opportu-nity to serve Him. This gospel of inspiredservice is vibrant in his teachings.

Since Divine realisation is pre-conditioned by dissolution of the ego, noth-ing succeeds like complete surrender to theAlmighty. God alone is the doer. The bestcourse is to assert our instrumentality asdevotees and thereby execute complete self-effacement for elevation to cosmic Self.

People follow diverse ways ofworship according to their religion. Someworship the Omnipresent as image whileothers believe in the formless Absolute. Some are keen on rituals while others areanalytical, inquisitive and meditative. Suchwide diversity could give rise to religiousintolerance of another, with a sense of com-parative superiority. Ramakrishna con-firmed that every way of worship is a validway to divine destination if followed withhonesty, sincerity and intense aspirationfor realisation.

Significantly, Ramakrishna askeda visitor, “Do you have faith in any imageof the Spirit or you prefer to worship Godas formless Absolute?” The visitor replied,“I am inclined to think God as formlessSpirit.” Sri Ramakrishna approved, “Well, stick to your conviction. But never thinkthat this alone is true. God with form isjust as true as God without form. Attractedby the soothing devotion of the devoteesthe Absolute manifests as solid ice but be-fore the bright sun of wisdom the sameevaporates away into formless air. He islimitless, and so are the ways to realizeHim.” The master of the people highlightedthe quintessence of religions ending inspirituality, pointed out the essential unityof religions amidst apparent diversity andlove for all beings as a form of worship. Hepointed out the ultimate aim of human lifeand gave us vision, mission and directionto live a purposeful life.

The Manag-ing Director of the Bank Ravinder Raohas stated that he had joined many suchinaugural functions of ANSCU’s tailor-ing and fashion designing centers andfound that such training centers havebeen so popularized that people of vari-ous parts of Islands wants to have suchcenters in their areas and has statedthat after joining of Kuldeep Rai Sharmain his bank, the bank has been able tointroduce many schemes for the wel-fare of the womenfolk in particular andfor others in general. He has disclosedthat this is Kuldeep, who has placed theproposal of giving sewing machines tothe deserving trained women withoutasking for marginal deposit, processingfee or security and the Bank has ac-cepted the noble gesture and as a re-sult total 125 sewing machines havebeen given to 125 women at various

How sniffer dogs detect explosivesdecoded, claims Scientists

Scientists have unravelled thescience behind how dogs de-tect actual explosives and dif-ferentiate them from otherclosely resembling com-pounds.

The study found thecanines react best to the ac-tual explosive and do not re-spond to odours 'similar' toexplosives and would detectonly the real explosive.

"Appropriately, dogsthat are trained to find realexplosives are going to findreal explosives and not muchelse," said John Goodpaster, from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapo-lis (IUPUI).

The study sought todetermine which chemicalcompounds cause a dog torecognise a particular explo-sive and alert to it.

Previous studies sug-gested that certain non-explo-sive chemicals emitted byComposition C-4 cause dogsto alert, and that these spe-cific chemicals could be usedas mimic substances to trainthe dogs in place of real ex-plosives.

Researchers discov-ered that the non-explosivechemicals given off by C-4mimics also are present in avariety of everyday plastic

objects such as PVC pipes, electrical tape, movie tickets, plastic grocery bag and plas-tic food wrapping.

The study exposed33 trained canines to thesevapours to see if the dogswould respond.

The field trials dem-onstrated that the dogs failedto respond in any significantway to specific odour com-pounds found in C-4.

The results indicatethat if the dogs are trained onthe full scent, they will onlydetect real explosives.

"The canines are not

easily fooled - you can't pickand choose components ofexplosive odours and expectthe dog to respond. Dogs arespecific and it's the full scentthat causes them to alert,"Goodpaster said.

While there is tech-nology available to search forexplosives, canines remainthe best option because oftheir speed, sensitivity andability to search large num-bers of items, Goodpastersaid. The study appears in the jour-nal Forensic Science Interna-tional.

India Sun mission being plannedbefore 2020 @ $20 million cost

space exploration merely afew decades ago has beenable to give good competitionto other nations that have ledin the field of scientific explo-rations like United States ofAmerica, European Unionand China. One very important aspect ofthe Indian space explorationis the fact that despite a fewmissteps and a few failures ithasn’t derailed and insteadkept its super fast journey tosuccesses and more and moreexplorations.

Reports are comingout that the Indian spaceagency ISRO is gearing up toits biggest test yet. India willsend a multi-million dollar mis-sion to probe the Sun by2020,as reported by a spaceofficial. This maiden missionto the sun is titled Aditya-1.

ISRO and Indiangovernment seems to be overexcited with the nlatest devel-opment. K. Radhakrishnan, the ISRO director says, “TheAditya mission to the Sun hasbeen planned between 2017and 2020. The mission wouldbe around the Earth. A fewequipment are being plannedfor that”. And reports suggestthat preparations are in fullgear at the moment.

There is no doubtthat it the project was in plan-ning for years and it hasn’tcome all of a sudden out ofnowhere. The Sun mission isgoing to be extremely trickydue to very different circum-stances and different reali-ties. It was almost sevenyears ago when the Sun mis-sion was talked of first. This

part of the Sun has tempera-tures of over 1 million degrees, with raging solar winds thatreach a velocity of up to 1,000km a second. Now it will beequipped with an ultravioletimager telescope to observethe whole solar disc so thatthe scientists can know thingshappening on the sun’s sur-face like solar storms, whichimpact atmosphere on theearth.

Reports suggest thatthe solar mission beingplanned by India’s spaceagency will be experimentalin nature and very light in-deed. The satellite, which willcarry as its payload an ad-vanced solar coronagraphalso, will weigh just 400 kg. Itwas initially projected to cost$10 million, but due to an up-graded mission profile, it isnow estimated to cost $20million. Compared to expensethat is incurred by other spaceagencies across the world itseems peanuts.

One wonders when theANIIDCO has failed tocontinue, Green ShopBusiness, Ship Cateringbusiness etc. then how thefirm will manage these twounits. Is it being done toplease some selected souls, who can now have parties inthese places and then askANIIDCO to bear the cost?

Most importantly, what kind of system is this,on one hand the Mangersand Assistant Managers ofTourism Department are

being made to sit in theTourism Department andon the other hand the GuestHouses and restaurants areleased out to others.

Already theDepartment had committeda mistake of purchasinglarge number of Buses bywasting lakhs of tax payers’money and then handingover the same to otherdepartments, that too free ofcost.

According toreports four big buses were

recently handed over to STS,2 buses to Police and 2 otherbuses to AgricultureDepartment. One wonderswhat was the need topurchase these buses whenthe Department had no planto operate those. Does thedepartment have only twoworks “Purchase” and“Repair”.

When contacted theDirector of TourismDepartment, Mr. V Kannantold Andaman Sheekha thatas the Tourism Department is

not having sufficient manpower, the Department is nowleasing out the WavesRestaurant and HornbillNest to ANIIDCO.

When asked aboutkeeping Managers andAssistant Managers in officefor office work, whichactually results in shortage ofstaffs on ground, the Directorsaid that now the Departmentfeels that these staffs areneeded more in main office forvarious works, includingfield works and hence they

were posted at the Mainoffice. Regarding buses, theDirector said that as he is newhe has no idea why thosebuses were purchased but hehas been told that due toshortage of staffs and lack ofmaintenance the buses werehanded over to variousdepartments.

“At present we havesix buses among which twoare unfit for road and otherfours will be handed over tovarious departments verysoon,” he said.
