The word “electronic” in the term e-governance implies technology driven governance.

GOVERNANCE - It is an activity of governing/controlling a country by its Government.

E-GOVERNANCE - The application of ICT(Information And Communication Technology) to transform the efficiency, effectiveness, transparency and accountability of exchange of information and transactions.

“E-governance aims to empower people through giving them access to information.”

ASPECTS OF E-GOVERNANCE

1. Information management-It is the systematic arrangement or classification of the information relating to the Government and Governing process.

2. Identity and access management-It is a set of processes and infrastructure for the creation, maintenance and use of digital identities for the purpose of access to E-governance portals and the information on those portals.

3. Content management-It is the process of organising, distributing and tracking information/data through a website over the internet.

4. Standards management-It is the process of maintaining e-governance websites through multiple formats.

STAGES OF E-GOVERNANCE

1. Emerging Presence – The Stage I considers online availability of limited and basic information.

2. Enhanced presence - The Stage II is Enhanced presence of the Government online.

3. Interactive presence – The Stage III considers Governments to initiate interactivity in their websites. It involves availability of online services of the government to enhance convenience of the consumer.

4. Transactional presence – The Stage IV allows two-way interaction between the citizens and Government.

5. Networked presence – The Stage V represents an integration of G2G, G2C and C2G interactions.

A Passport is an essential travel document for those who are travelling abroad for education, tourism, business purposes, medical

attendance and family visits .To meet the increasing demand, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) launched the Passport Seva

Project (PSP) in May 2010.

Passport seva portal provides :

Aadhaar is a unique Identification number issued by UIDAI to individuals for the purpose of establishing unique

identification of every single person. 

AADHAAR CARD UID

It is a unique 12 digit number issued to an individual.

It is meant for individuals of any age (including children) for the purpose of establishing identities.

The demographic and biometric details are stored in a centralized database.

Aadhaar is not a compulsory approach.

CASE - STUDY

It is a cold, windy morning in Meru village, in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh district. In the courtyard by the dilapidated library, dozens of locals have gathered, some in their best clothes. A 39-year old lady, waits to withdraw money, clutching a laminated card that bears her unique identification (UID) or 'Aadhaar‘ number. 

The 'business correspondent' (a bank-appointed agent) punches the number into a hand-held device known as a 'Micro ATM' and scans her fingerprint. After authentication, she gets her money. This is the first financial transaction the that she has made in her life. "It is quite simple," she says.

Cloud computing is the storing and accessing data and programs over the Internet instead of using computer's hard drive.

Cloud in the term of Cloud Computing refers to set of hardware, networks, storage, services, and interfaces that combines to deliver the aspects of computing as a service.

Meghraj is the name given to the initiative of Government of India for its new program which is going to take advantage of the Cloud Computing.
