RAB NE BANA DI JODI

“IF MEN ARE FROM MARS & WOMEN FROM VENUS

RAB NE BANA DI JODI IS A GALACTIC PHENOMENON

WHERE MARS & VENUS EMBRACE”

Presented by BCRT 172 & BCLC 105, the 2nd edition of

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi was held on 6th October’13 at News Café,

Indiranagar, Bangalore

The build up to the event was created by some romantic & mushy mushy e-flyers, giving a teaser of what to

expect from this Couple’s Only program.

On Sunday the 6th, with the autumn sun out & the venue decorated in passion & romance, the stage was set

to take the married couples back into the times, when romance was a priority & passion a reality. The

facilitators trio of Cr Kirtan Vyas, Tr Himanshu Gupta & Tr Abhishek Agarwal, were geared up, not to give

gyaan or lecture on a happy marriage, but to moderate a discussion on perfections & imperfections of two

people in a beautiful relationship. As rightly said, “One's not half of two; two are halves of one.”

In the presence of 14 couples, BCRT172 Chairman Tr Anil Maloo, welcomed

the Chief Guest, Area Chairman Tr Anandramu, the 3 facilitators & all the

participants.

Cr Kirtan Vyas began it all with an adjective game, where each couple were

asked to publicly introduce his/her spouse in the most romantic way. The

sheepishness on the guys & twinkling eyes of the women was visible as names

like Jaanu, Sweety, Darling, Poochi came out. Kirtan did a quick debriefing of

the game & the couples realized that, regularly using such verbal sweet

nothings, add spice to addressing each other.

The Adjective game was a stepping stone for Himanshu to delve into Expectations from a relationship. The discussion was based on reasons for arguments in daily life. Various points came up from both genders, which led to a realization that men & women behaved differently in similar situations. Kirtan stepped in to give the group a self learning & fun activity, to show that men & women are simply wired differently & in order to make relationships work, we need to understand these differences & know how to respond effectively. “A great marriage is not when the 'perfect couple' comes together. It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.” Himanshu, found this to be an opportune moment to step in, to broach up the sensitive, but one of the most important topic in married life ....SEX! This is known to be the most common cause of difference between a married couple. Initially people were a bit sheepish & shy about openly discussing the topic, but Himanshu gradually made all comfortable enough, so that opinions & views started pouring in from men & women alike. It was summarized that sex should not be too overrated & it can be anything from a tender & caring touch, a hug or the passion throughout. We as humans do require this loving touch in varying degrees & frequency & forms an integral part of a loving married life. This necessitated a further probing by me, to find reasons more reasons for differences & misunderstandings among couples. They unanimously agreed that it was the lack of communication which leads to the differences. Based on the points made by them, it dawned on all, that women indulge in more Verbal Communication with their spouse & expect the same while men adopt Non Verbal Communication. Women prefer to talk while men would rather do it. To demonstrate this & to make the session light, I introduced two activities, where the women were supposed to stitch a heart on their men's derriere. This had the entire room filled with hee haws & after 3-4 minutes we got to see various shaped hearts on the men's bums.

The

Page 99: E-Galahad Area 6

Second activity involved the throw of dice to decide different positions the couples must enact. There were poses from Titanic to Leg on Leg to even 69, which the couples thoroughly enjoyed. In a quick debriefing, I touched upon the fact that during the activities, the couples shared lot of camaraderie with hardly any words exchanged.

Simple expressions speak a million words.

Different expressions change the meaning of same words, by leaps and bounds. Hence, communication without words makes a huge difference in our lives. It was also briefly discussed that men surrendered their bums to the women, with lots of trust that any pricking may be either accidental or naughtily, but never intentional hurt. Himanshu then stepped in with a simple questionnaire about your spouse. Each couple filled up the questionnaire & exchanged it with their spouse, only to realize that, while the questions were based on basic day to day life, most of us know so little about each others very basic choices, habits & preferences.

Upon discussion, the reason was attributed to the lack of Verbal Communication among couples. As we grow older into a relationship, we begin to take our partner for granted & expect them to understand everything without a single word said. While this wordless understanding is a good virtue of a relationship, the same can become a burden. Hence, Verbal Communication is as important a part of a relationship as Non Verbal Communication. After about 3 hours of activities & discussions on various aspect of a relationship, it was now time to take the couples for a journey back into the time when, they exchanged their wedding vows & pledged undying love & devotion for each other. The men were asked to put a veil on his bride & get her ready for the renewal of the wedding vows. As the grooms enthusiastically marched their brides to the aisle, there was church bells & wedding hymns playing in the background.

Page 100: E-Galahad Area 6

I stood there in the avatar of Father Briganza, who is here to solemnize a mass renewal of marriage vows of the lovely couples present. The couples were emotionally staring at each other while exchanging the wedding ring & Father Briganza made them utter the ' I do' to the vows. All the romance, emotions & passion broke lose when Father Briganza announced, 'I now pronounce you man & wife & you may kiss your bride'. The couples embraced in an emotional lip lock & looked like newly wedded couples & we all felt from our heart that indeed, 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi'.

This was followed by some goodies & prizes like Most Romantic Couple, Most

Adventurous Couple etc etc. AFC area 6 Tr Ranbir presented BCRT 172 Rockstar trophy & the three facilitators with rockstar Badge.Area Chairman Tr Anandramu unveiled Placemag Magazine , which is a fundraising initiative of BRCT 172 & BCLC 105. The music played loud, the liquor flowed & the pictures from the event were played live on the screen. As the sun was setting, the couples left the venue to celebrate their new found romance in privacy.
