Minutes of Annual General Meeting held at the Swan Yacht Club, East Fremantle on Tuesday
February 4h 2014
Vice-President Richard Coleman declared the meeting open at 11:40 am and welcomed those attending.
Members present as per signed list circulated at the meeting.
Apologies – Jim & Norma Anderson, Ron Dyer, Jan Hall, Ian Jamieson, Karen Jardine, Ron & Judy King, Bev & Percy
Perrin, Les Preedy, Harry Tazewell
Minutes of previous AGM were circulated in the ‘Duty Freed’ for all members to read, and were accepted as read.
Accepted by all in attendance
Treasurer’s Report – was circulated in the ‘Duty Freed’ for all members to read. Bernie outlined an error that was
recorded in the Duty Freed which since the accounts have been audited has been corrected. Bob Stone proposed that
this now be accepted as a true record, seconded Warrick Gates. Accepted by all in attendance
Entertainment Report – Hazel outlined the functions that were held & numbers attending. Due to weather, illness or
happy travellers there were few functions in 2013 but we hope to have a better year in 2014
AGM 2013 - 29 attended the meeting & lunch at Swan Yacht Club.
Feb – 10 had breakfast at Swan Yacht Club
Dec – 18 in total celebrated a Christmas lunch at the Iris Bar & Restaurant, the sit down lunch was again very enjoyable
and will look to book this venue again for Christmas 2014.
President’s Report – New is the year, new are our hopes. Welcome to the year 2014.
Since our last AGM our function program was limited by opportunity and attendance. In part I must accept
some of the blame, as do some of our committee, as all but Hazel & Richard at some time or other were
tripping off somewhere. Myself and Judy caravanned to the eastern states to attend the Probus Rendezvous
at Albury/Wodonga and glad we did for it was very well organised and presented. I mention this because on
our way home via Canberra we caught up with, ex Customs, Graham Cruttenden and his partner Ruth and a
very old friend, and old he is (91), Ian Foster. Fit and well.
As with all committees and Associations they do not exist and or/survive without personal support and such
is the case with your Committee to which special mention must be made to Hazel & Bernie. To all you
members who support our functions I thank you sincerely. To the members in general I too say thanks to
you for maintaining your interest in this unique Club/Association.
Regrettably some members are no longer with us and please allow me to make special mention of Alex Shaw
to which this Association is very much indebted. This was the man who literally hand produced our
Newsletters, now, Duty Freed. My apologies for not being in your company today but nature, age and a
surgeon have restricted my movements for the next few weeks. God willing and the creeks don’t flood I will
be a regular attendee at all future committee meetings and social functions. Again in all sincerity, thank you
on behalf of the committee for your continued support. Ron King
Darrell Johnson – took the chair and proceeded with the election of office bearers for the next year.
Only one nomination was received per position and were elected unopposed as below.
President Ron King
Vice President Richard Coleman
Secretary Hazel Webb
Treasurer Bernie Webb
Duty Freed Editor Hazel Webb
Committee Warrick Gates, Neil Hopkins, Karen Jardine, Kay Schmidt,
Trevor Smart, Bob Stone, Ray Treen
General Business—Bernie advised the website was temporarily down however it should be fixed very soon,
apologies to those who may have tried to access it.
Hazel advised that due to staff changes at Customs we had no guest speaker this year but will follow up for
2015 AGM
With no further business Richard thanked everyone for attending and closed the meeting at 12:00 noon
The next Annual General Meeting will be Tuesday February 3rd 2015 at the Swan Yacht Club.

We need your help!
Many of you appear to be having trips around Australia, overseas or just down the road and may come
across some exceptional places. We would like to hear about them along with any highlights of your trip.
Please email your experiences to the Secretary so they can be shown in the Duty Freed. Pictures are not
always easy to insert but we will try
Also as you can see we do not have a gossip column so if you have any news of members please let us
know. Unfortunately the only news we seem to get is when one of our members has passed away and
advise our members by email due to the timeframe.

A Codebreaker is a crossword puzzle with no clues! Instead, every letter of the alphabet has
been replaced by a number, the same number representing the same letter throughout the
puzzle. All you have to do is decide which letter is represented by which number! To start you
off, we reveal the codes for two or three letters. When these letters have been entered
throughout the puzzle, you should have enough information to start guessing words and
discovering other letters.

Lots of Mazes
The Maze - was reconfigured in June 2011 to offer a new challenge to return visitors. Originally built in
the early 80's the main maze is constructed from timber and spread over2500m2 making it Perth's largest
maze! Your challenge is to locate the four poles in sequence and Supa-Slide before locating the exit in the
fastest time possible. On entry locate the red pole before proceeding to the blue pole, find the white pole at
the centre then advance to the green pole. From the green pole continue onto the Supa-Slide and lookout
tower to check where your friends are before sprinting to the exit - Good Luck!
The Pine Mazes - race your friends and family through the Pine Mazes, two deceivingly simple looking
Mazes set amongst a pine tree grove. Can you find your way out?!
Tayla's Tangle - constructed from 75 metres of colourful rope, intertwined between posts to form a
tangled web. Participants must navigate through the twists and turns, to reach the end of their rope in the
fastest time possible.
Danae's Dilemma - made from recycled timber, Danae’s Dilemma is a devious no-left-hand-turn-maze.
Participants that wish to take up the challenge must navigate their way through the maze without making
any left hand turns or U-turns.
Phil's Frustration - is a super tricky no-right-hand-turn maze, constructed from limestone blocks and
miniature peppermint hedges.
Other Fun Stuff
Mini Golf - Play a round of traditional Mini Golf set amongst the palms. Each track is individually
designed with unique curves and slopes. Par for the course is 25, can you score under this?
Disc Golf - Be one of the first in WA to try Disc Golf! Similar to traditional golf however players use a disc
instead of a ball and club. A disc is thrown from a tee area to a target which is the ‘hole’ (an elevated
basket). The object of the game is to complete each hole in the least number of throws. Great fun for all
ages but be warned, it is VERY addictive!
Garden Chess - Find yourself a worthy opponent & challenge them to a game of cheeky chess! Played
outdoors on a massive 3.6m x 3.6m chess board, the ultimate game of strategy is brought to life with each
chess piece standing 2 feet high
Children’s Playground & Giant Jumping Pillow
Food
Picnic /BBQ Grounds - Bring along a picnic or use one of our many gas BBQ's and picnic tables available
in the grounds. There's no charge to use the BBQ's and our huge trees provide plenty of shade for the
perfect picnic setting.
Café Iguana - Enjoy fresh sandwiches, rolls and focaccia’s in an alfresco setting. Indulge with the perfect
hot drink and your favourite cake or muffin! Also on the menu quiche, burgers, nachos, fish & chips, salads
and more
Page 10
Duty Freed Page 10 March 2014
The Maze Family Fun Park continued
Koalas, Kangaroos & Emus - meet resident koalas Clancy, Olivia, Willow, Newton, Mazie and Cisco.
Say hello to our friendly kangaroos, emus and birds. For the health of the animals patting and feeding of the
animals is not allowed. You can view our Koalas from only a few feet away all through the day and if
you’d like to learn more about Australia’s cutest marsupials, a ‘Koala Experience’ is held twice a day at
11:30am and 2pm, where one of our Koala keepers is on hand to share some Koala secrets and take your
questions
Kangaroo Exhibit—check out the Australiana Kangaroo Enclosure. This walk through exhibit allows you
to get right up close to the friendly kangaroos and has some quirky old Australian features too, like the old
lean to shed and the farmer's truck; can you spot the letterbox? The kangaroos love their home and we're
sure you'll love it too.
Walk In Aviary - get up and close to some of Australia’s quirkiest cockatoos! See Major Mitchell’s, Sulphur
Crested Cockatoos and Pink and Grey Galahs.
If you want to find out more about the place before you go look up http://www.themaze.com.au
or check out our own website: www.rcoa.org.au for more information
Directions From Perth CBD—Via Mitchell Freeway – approx. 45 minutes.
From Perth travel north along the Mitchell Freeway, exit at Burns Beach Road and turn right. Continue
along Burns Beach Road until you come to the roundabout. At the roundabout take the first exit, left onto
Joondalup Drive. Carry on along Joondalup Drive, continuing over Wanneroo Road, heading east. Remain
on Joondalup Drive, which changes into R. The Maze is approximately 19km from the Joondalup Drive/
Wanneroo Road intersection, on the left hand side.

As you would have seen we have included the minutes of 2014 AGM in this newsletter for all to read. This will save time at the 2015 AGM and the Secretary from reading it out for all to hear. If there are no amendments they will be accepted as is and we can then move on.
We have also included the financial report for 2013 which was accepted at the 2014 AGM
Having survived the ‘Silly Season’ we are now in to a ‘New Year’ which also means annual subscriptions are due again. Please check the mailing label at the bottom of this page to see your current financial status or if you receive ‘Duty Freed’ via email you would have had an email sent to you if you are not financial.
