Dunlop UsFlex® is the world standard in heavy-duty industrial
conveyor belting. Its innovative, straight-warp car-cass
construction surpasses traditional multiply belts in virtu-ally
every respect, creating a belt that has outstanding opera-tional
performance over a long life span. A single UsFlexply more than
matches the strength of several traditional multiply layers.
The UsFlex construction consists of extra-heavy strands of
polyester running lengthwise, with nylon running crosswise. The
strands are completely straight in both directions and are
therefore not intertwined unlike traditional woven carcasses. This
results in maximum protection of the warp through the weft, with
minimal stretch, both lengthwise and crosswise. As there are no
multiple plies, the result is a lightweight belt with maximum
tensile strength.

RESISTANCE
superior impact resistanceWhen compared to conventional multiply
belts with a similar tensile strength, UsFlex stands out with its
superior impact resistance. The maximum impact energy of a single
ply UsFlex type 630/1 is comparable to that of a 4-ply EP belt type
1600/4.
superior rip resistanceUsFlex has a rip resistance that is more
than four times greater than conventional multiply belts that have
a similar tensile strength. The rip resistance is not only superior
in relation to the multiply EP belts, but also when compared to
Solid Woven.
superior tear resistanceThe tear resistance of UsFlex also
leaves conventional multiply belts with a comparable tensile
strength far behind. The tear resistance is measured according to
the international ISO 505 standard.
some of the key features of usflex include:• UNRIVALLED IMPACT,
RIP AND TEAR RESISTANCE
• HIGH STRENGTH
• EXCELLENT LOAD SUPPORT
• OUTSTANDING TROUGHABILITY
• LIGHTWEIGHT

LOWER COST PER TON .. . AND THEREFORE MORE COST-EFFECTIVE FOR
NUMEROUS APPLIC ATIONS.
Because of its outstanding operating performance and life span.
UsFlex is an extremely cost-effective solution. A lighter belt type
can be used in many applications due to its excellent operational
characteristics and finger splice efficiency. The combination of
these factors has been proven to result in exceptionally low
operating costs per ton.
value for money – guaranteedUsFlex has been a proven success for
many years throughout the world. For example, a large stone quarry
had been using traditional conveyor belts for the crusher area,
which is the most demanding of applications. The average life span
of these belts had been 4 months. As a consequence the belts were
replaced with a heavier type of multiply EP belt resulting in a
marked reduction in operational costs but with a life span of less
than 12 months. After a thorough inspection by Dunlop’s Application
Engineers, UsFlex was recommended and installed with amazing
results. After 3 years, the UsFlex belt was still successfully
operating, resulting in a reduction in cost per ton of more than
80%.
usflex with finger splice – producing exceptio-nal operating
performance and durabilityIn conventional multiply belts, the
strength of the belt is often determined by the strength of the
splice. UsFlex puts an end to this traditional weak spot. Instead
of using the traditional hot or cold vulcanised step splice, the
finger splice method can be used with the most spectacular results.
The Dunlop finger splice has an efficiency factor of more than 90%.
This is largely due to the actual splice materials, which have been
specifically developed for UsFlex. By comparison, a step splice has
an efficiency of 66% for a 3-ply belt type. Making a good finger
splice is actually quite easy to learn but it does require
technical training. At Dunlop we are more than happy to share our
knowledge and experience with our customers.
Although UsFlex with finger splice is supremely reliable, the
conventional ‘step’ and ‘mechanical’ splice joints can also be
used. Please ask our Application Engineering department for the
best splicing joint for your application.
usflex – the best possible guarantee for reliability in a wide
variety of industries including:• QUARRIES• MINING • CEMENT • WOOD,
PAPER & PULP • RECYCLING
It is for very good reason that we call Dunlop UsFlex “the world
standard in industrial conveyor belts”. With its robust
construction, it is the ideal conveyor belt for particularly heavy
applications. The low cost per ton also makes UsFlex an especially
cost-effective alternative for numerous applications in a wide
range of industries.
* Diameter for belt loads from 60% up to 100%. For lower loads a
smaller diameter can also be suitable.** The load support of a belt
is a factor of the belt width, belt strength and bulk material
density. The table indicates the limits for correct load support
based on three idlers of the same length set at 30°.

carcass thickness and drum diametersThe carcass thickness of
both UsFlex I & II is similar or smaller than those of
comparable multiply EP conveyor belts from Dunlop. For example, the
UsFlex 400/1 carcass has a thickness of 2.4 mm, compared to 3.0 mm
for the EP 400/3. As a result, the required drum diameter may be
smaller in some cases. For more detailed information please also
refer to the data table shown in this brochure.
cover qualitiesUsFlex is available in the RS (extra wear
resistant) cover quality. Other qualities, such as oil, fire and
heat resistant covers are available upon request.
Belt selection - The correct choice of belt type and cover
quality is dependent on several different factors. To enable the
correct belt type to be chosen, it is very important to provide as
much information as possible. The final choice from the available
options for each application will depend on the actual working
conditions, which may differ quite significantly from location to
location.
