Dunlop N Not to Scale 649500N EAST AYRSHIRE LOCAL PLAN 2010 52 Dunlop Dunlop is an attractive settlement of 839 persons in 2001, which has undergone recent but small scale residential expansion. There is a limited but steady demand for housing in the village, with an average of some 3 completions per annum taking place over the last 7 years. Because of the size and character of the village, Dunlop has been identified in the Ayrshire Joint Structure Plan as a settlement with small scale development opportunities. Consequently, a realistic supply of housing land has been identified in the local plan to accommodate a modest level of residential development which reflects this provision. With the exception of an area of greenfield housing land located on the northern edge of the settlement, only one other housing site has been identified in the plan as suitable for residential development, this relating to an area of brownfield land comprising the former Howies of Dunlop premises located within the settlement boundary, for which planning permission has already been obtained. The settlement contains a number of listed buildings and the central and western portion of the village is a designated outstanding conservation area. Dunlop is provided with a range of shops serving local needs and the village also contains essential community and other facilities to meet local requirements, including a primary school and a community hall. Outdoor public sporting, leisure and recreational facilities comprise Dunlop Park with its associated playground and Multi Use Games Area, a small area of amenity open space off the Lugton Road, and a privately owned bowling club. It is recognised that the needs of the community, in so far as leisure, community facility and service infrastructure is concerned, are likely to change in the future and that this warrants a greater channelling of resources into the area. The most pressing priorities are the expansion of secondary school facilities in Stewarton, the provision of new leisure facilities at an appropriate location to serve the Glasgow Link Corridor communities as a whole and the provision of additional park and ride facilities in the community. The upgrading of the B778 Fenwick / Stewarton road will also be of benefit to the community. It is intended that Developer Contributions will be specifically directed towards funding these particular initiatives. Dunlop Development Opportunities Dunlop 1 Residential development of the following sites will be supported by the Council: Key + Sites identified for affordable housing purposes. Note: (i) Although SEPA holds no record of flooding at this location, and the Gills Burn is outwith the Indicative River and Coastal Flood Map (Scotland), parts of site 193H adjacent to this watercourse may be at risk of flooding, and a flood risk assessment may be required to determine the extent of the functional floodplain.
