Year 12
Year 12 students have three more weeks left of school before the Term 3 break that leads
into the Higher School Certificate (HSC) examination period, giving them approximately 40
days left to prepare. Mr Dives and I met with Year 12 last week to encourage them to
commit to a solid routine of study, outline the organisation for the last few weeks, and provide
advice about setting themselves up for the greatest chances for success. The last 40 days
before the HSC are a critical time to make a huge difference to results, and we are hoping
that all students make a concerted effort to maximise this period. As we go through this
period Year 12 will be getting a variety of additional supports to assist them to have
everything they need in place here at school, including additional access to their teachers for
boost sessions and study groups in the break period. Year 12 Graduation Assembly will be
in the Hall on Friday 22nd September from 10a.m. and I would like to cordially invite all
parents, carers, family and friends of Dungog High School to this special occassion.
Student Leadership
Our aspiring leaders in Year 11 applying for the formal positions of President, Vice President

the final stage of the process this week, where they will be interviewed by a panel including

Student Letterbox
To save students lining up and waiting to
hand in notes or pay for excursions, fees,
etc we have started a new system with a
‘Student Letterbox’. Students can drop the
following in the Letterbox: permission notes, absence notes, correct monies with permission note in a sealed envelope, and early leaver requests – (note all Thursday early leaver requests must FIRST be signed by the Deputy).
We are also participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher
and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact
on student wellbeing and engagement.
Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include:
communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning
and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, ipads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete
and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 10 September and 13 October. Although participating in the survey is
entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.
More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au. To access the survey for our school go to:

In Term 3 Dungog High School will be reintroducing it’s Golden Eagle Award System. This system aims to reward students in a fast
and frequent manner across all areas of their schooling. Students who display our three core values of respect, responsibility or
personal best will be rewarded with an on-the-spot award (Golden Eagle).
Students may earn a Golden Eagle across a number of subjects, in the playground or when undertaking sporting and/ or cultural
activities. Once a student has collected 20 Golden Eagles, they may hand them into the office where they will receive a Golden Ticket
for their achievements. Their name will then go into a draw where prize winners will be drawn out once a term at our week 8 PBL
Assembly.
Prizes at this assembly will include ITunes vouchers and boom box speakers.
The student with the most number of Golden Tickets at the end of the year will be awarded with a laptop.
Teachers will be on the lookout for students displaying our three core values, striving for success, and being active and positive
schooling and community members.

James Theatre The Big Sick (M) Romantic Comedy Saturday 16 September, 7 pm Based on the heart-warming real-life courtship between Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon, The Big Sick tells the story of Pakistan-born
aspiring comedian Kumail (Nanjiani), who connects with grad student Emily (Kazan) after one of his standup sets. However, what they
thought would be just a one-night stand blossoms into the real thing, which complicates the life that is expected of Kumail by his traditional
Muslim parents. When Emily is beset with a mystery illness, it forces Kumail to navigate the medical crisis with her parents, Beth and Terry
(Holly Hunter and Ray Romano) who he's never met, while dealing with the emotional tug-of-war between his family and his heart. Described
as the most authentic romantic comedy in years, The Big Sick is directed by Michael Showalter (Hello My Name is Doris) and producer by
Judd Apatow (Trainwreck, This is 40) and Barry Mendel (The Royal Tenenbaums).
Wind River (MA 15+) Thriller/Mystery Sunday 17 September, 7 pm This month’s outing of the Dungog Film Festival is Wind River, a chilling murder mystery set on a Native American reservation nestled in the
wintry desolation of Wyoming. It follows a rookie FBI agent (Elizabeth Olsen) who teams up with a local game tracker with deep community
ties and a haunted past (Jeremy Renner) to investigate the murder of a local girl on a remote Native American Reservation in the hopes of
solving her mysterious death. This intelligent crime drama is the directorial debut of screenwriter Taylor Sheridan (Hell or High Water, Sicario).
