GR-8 Duct Insulation

nstallation Instructions:

Product Description:

. To create the necessary 1 inch airspace, between the duct wall and the insulation - affix foam

spacers along the corners of the duct work.

. Wrap TVM’s GR-8 Duct reflective insulation around the spacers so as not to compress the

insulation. This will create an enclosed 1 inch airspace.

. Tape all seams and butt-joints using TVM’s reflective tape (3” wide). In order to preserve

warranty, TVM tape - or TVM approved tape - must be used in this application.

4. Repeat the above steps for the entire length of the duct, until it ’s surface is fully enclosed.

VM’s GR-8 Duct reflective insulation is comprised of a polyester-base thermal insulating core, sandwiched between two highly reflective aluminum facihis product has a code certification strip that identifies the brand name and pertinent testing information for duct applications. This inspector-friendly

ape means no hassles at the jobsite, and peace of mind for installers.

VM’s GR-8 Duct reflective insulation is safe, flexible and easy to install - and when used in conjunction

with TVM’s foam spacers, it can yield a thermal resistance of R-8 around HVAC ducts. As required

by today’s building codes, this product is Class 1 / Class A in accordance with the ASTM E-84 and

UL 723 fire test standards.

Typical residential HVAC systems lose 10-30% of heating and cooling energy when air ducts pass through unconditioned spaces. Insulating duct work se

reduce this energy loss and lowers utility bills. Occupants are also more comfortable in houses with insulated ducts because heated or cooled air reach

registers at higher or lower temperatures, respectively. This helps reduce builder costs associated with callbacks because homeowners are less likely to com

about heating or cooling problems.

Once your ductwork has been installed, with trunks and runs established, it is time to insulate. Installing TVM insulation around

duct systems is the perfect solution for keeping your duct system running efficiently year round. In the summer, it

keeps the heat from reaching the cool air being delivered throughout the home. In the winter, TVM duct insulation

prevents heat from escaping the ducts. The material is easy to install and can be installed around even the most

complex duct system.R EF LE C TI VE D OU BL E

R-6 Insulation for Ducts – with 3/4” Foam Spacers:

1. To create the necessary 1 inch airspace, affix foam spacers along the corners of the duct work.

2. Wrap TVM’s reflective duct insulation around the spacers and pull hand-tight. This will

create an enclosed 1 inch airspace.

3. Tape all seams and butt-joints using TVM’s reflective tape (3” wide).

4. Repeat the above steps for the entire length of the duct, until it’s surface is fully enclosed.

R-4.3 for Ducts – Loosely Wrapped:

1. This method does not require any physical spacers, however the product must be loosely

wrapped around the duct.

2. In general, the length of the reflective insulation should be approximately 5% longer than theperimeter of the duct. For example, if the perimeter of the duct is measured to be 100 inches,

then 105 inches of product should be wrapped around the duct.

3. If installed correctly, a small airspace will be formed between the duct walls, and the reflective insulation.

4. Tape all seams and butt-joints using TVM’s reflective tape (3” wide).

5. Repeat the above steps for the entire length of the duct, until it’s surface is fully enclosed.

R-5 Insulation for Ducts – with 5/16”Spacer Strip:

1. Create spacers by simply cutting 2 inch wide strips of duct insulation, which can thenbe wrapped at regular intervals, around the perimeter of the duct.

2. With spacers being present along the length of the duct work, wrap TVM’s reflective duct insulation

around the spacers and pull hand-tight. This will create an enclosed 5/16” airspace.3. Tape all seams and butt-joints using TVM’s reflective tape (3” wide).

4. Repeat the above steps for the entire length of the duct, until it ’s surface is fully enclosed.

. Position first section of Thermo-pan as follows:

A. STARTING BEFORE RETURN AIR TRUNK IS INSTALLED:

Center Thermo-pan between joists and at least 2” past top side of duct to provide

a tight seal when final trunk is installed. Secure side to bottom of joists by

stapling every 2“ - print side out.

B. STARTING AT EXISTING RETURN AIR TRUNK, BEAM OR WALL PLATE:Score 1” lip across the end of panel and bend down 90o. Center Thermo-pan

between bottom of joists. Butt tightly against existing trunk, plate or beam and

tape seam using UL 181A approved aluminum tape. Secure sides to bottom of

joists by stapling approximately every 2”. For code, printed side out.

2. To add next section: Insert TVM-Connector at the end of previouslynstalled sheet. Center Thermo-pan between bottom of joists, insert one end of ew sheet into open lip of TVM-Connector and secure sides using 3/8“ staplespproximately every 2”. For code, print side out! A UL 181A approved alumi-um tape may be used in place of TVM-Connectors. Before taping the seam, buttightly against edge of previously installed sheet. Continue until legth of return airs reached.

3. Install Header: Bend TVM-Header inward to close off open end of return airoist space. While maintaining a tight a tight fit, secure the top and header side

with 3/8” staples approximately every 2”. For code, printed side out.
