Ducks

Young children love playing with and looking at animals and this week in Play School we

feature one of the most popular amongst pre-schoolers – ducks!

Ducks and ducklings have featured in children’s nursery rhymes, games and stories for

generations. The song, “Six Little Ducks”, is particularly well known as a tool for teaching

numbers and counting through repetition. This week in Play School we feature ducks in songs,

stories, “through the windows” segments and play.

MAKE AND DO

How to Make Your Own “Snap” Cards

You will need:

Plain cardboard

Safety scissors

Coloured crayons, pencils and/or markers

Snap is a fun matching game which can be played by two or more people.

Cut an even number of identical rectangle “cards” from plain cardboard.

Draw the same picture on two cards. You might like to draw an animal, a shape or an

object. Make as many sets of identical cards as you like.

Shuffle the cards and divide them between players. Make sure all the cards are face-down.

One at a time, each person takes a card from the top of their pile, and turn it over to reveal

the picture on the other side. When someone turns over a card that matches the previous

card you have to say “Snap!” The first person to say “Snap” adds all the turned over cards to

their pile. Whoever collects all the cards from the other players, wins the game!
