MONDOTTICA INTRODUCES THE NEW DUCATI EYEWEAR COLLECTION
A Ducati is more than just a motorcycle. It’s a way of life. The
spirit of the 92-year-old Italian motorcycle manufacturer
transcends the mechanical, moving into to the hearts of the
Ducatisti, the community of die-hard Ducati fans around the world.
Whether experiencing the ultimate in thrills on a Monster or
supporting the works riders at Mugello for the MotoGP, the same red
passion courses through the veins of Ducati enthusiasts the world
over. For the first time, the engineering prowess, soul and style
of Ducati has been realised in performance optical and sunglass
collections by global eyewear company Mondottica. Like a Panigale
or a Hypermotard, the collections are a perfect mix of form and
function suitable for both Ducati owners and fans. Each frame has
been designed so that it can be worn underneath a crash helmet.
Flexible dual-layer rubber temples are supple enough to flex within
the tight space between a rider’s head and helmet lining.
SUNGLASS COLLECTION
The collection’s brand ambassador is Ducati MotoGP rider Andrea
Dovizioso, who has created his own sunglass style DA9001. Just like
Andrea feeds back input into the development of his MotoGP bike, he
took a leading role in the design process for his signature
sunglass. In visits to Mondottica’s design and development offices,
he selected the colours, shape and materials of DA9001, a sleek
squared-off style finished in matte black with red internals – the
iconic Ducati colours – with his name stamped on the top. Putting
safety and performance ahead of aesthetics, the frame’s red
mirrored lenses are non-polarised for distortion free viewing
behind a visor, but in true Italian flair, they match the red
temple internals. At the heart of Andrea’s style is the Ducati
spring hinge, found throughout the optical and sunglass ranges.
Just as Ducati engineers constantly strive for incremental gains in
performance, the newly designed hinges are an enhanced take on
traditional eyewear functionality - with added motorcycle
inspiration. Moving the springs to the outside of the temple
provides extra force but retains high levels of comfort. Much like
the suspension on a motorbike, the spring rebound and compression
is controlled by a damper that is placed inside the temple. In use,
both components move in sync, as if soaking up bumps on the open
road. Pilot inspired style DA5005 is a mix of sport and style, an
essential trait for any Italian brand. The matte finished TR90
front silhouette features a subtle keyhole bridge and oversized
construction. The four colourations of black and yellow, black and
red, tortoise and gold and navy and grey, feature tonal accents on
the lenses, temple internals and the springs on the suspension fork
hinge. DA7003 is a style for fans of the brand, conveying the
legacy of Ducati and its engineering. The metal composition,
visible screws and triple bridge mimics the trellis design of
vintage Ducati bikes and make it a frame for strolling around the
paddock instead of putting the laps in on the track. Branding is
discreet, with a top-mounted logo on acetate sections and the
Ducati shield on acetate end tips.
OPTICAL COLLECTION
A 14-strong optical collection has been created to reflect the
Ducati brand’s sense of style and performance, mixed with everyday
comfort, featuring the signature Ducati hinge, under-helmet design
and Italian aesthetics. More street than track is the bold DA1010,
a metal and acetate combination frame with a strong brow section
that contrasts with the thin lower eye rim. Laminated acetate
temples bear metallic Ducati branding and flow from tortoise
textures to single colour. Pilot-style metal DA3001 speaks the
language of Ducati in subtle style. A lightly curved double bridge
is a nod to the frames used on the brand’s classic bikes, while the
square shaped silhouette has urban modernity. The double injected
rubber temples have been pushed to the limits of minimal
construction and use single spring Ducati hinges and top-mounted
logos. With a strong sense of sport and performance, DA1006 is
perfectly suited for everyday use on the bike. Straight TR90
temples convey the frame’s sporty credentials, while the thick
temple lugs reference Ducati’s engineering. Tortoise hues are
paired with polished gold temple lugs and suspension hinge
components. Other colourations feature tonal detail and dual-hue
temples.
The new Ducati eyewear collection is available globally in
selected Ducati stores and fine opticians from Spring 2018.
