What is SAT>IP?

is a Communication Protocol for satellite reception devices on IP networks

First presented at SES Industry Days in 2011

Adopted and supported now by over 40 manufacturers worldwide

Since March 2014 available as CENELEC standard EN50585

SAT>IP will make satellite services:

1. available on more devices (tablets, smart phones, …)

2. transportable via IP in-home infrastructures and in professional environments

- remotely request TV programs (DVB TS packets) from a specific satellite transponder

- specify the IP protocol in which they would like the program delivered

- display the program to the user

- SES currently handles product certifications

- Provision of reference servers to SAT>IP developers

- Availability of software testing tools for developers

Conclusions

SAT>IP brings satellite TV to a plethora of IP devices and supports cost-effective

distribution of satellite TV in hotels via (existing) IP infrastructures

Over 40 manufacturers support SAT>IP with already more than 75 products

− Flat screen TVs from Panasonic and soon TP Vision (Philips)

− IP-LNB and IP flat antenna available

− SAT>IP specification optionally supports DVB-C and DVB-T

The SAT>IP Alliance will be announced during NAB 2015 and combine the

engineering and marketing power of world-leading companies to support SAT>IP

Next step: publication of an “Operator Extension” to support transcoding and CA-

to-DRM solutions
