We are a Designated Special Provision (DSP) for 25 students based in a mainstream school of 900. Our primary aim is to encourage each student to become a mature, independently minded individual who has the necessary skills and knowledge to be valued members of their community. All DSP students have enhanced statements.

Students participate fully in all aspects of the College community. During break and lunch, students are encouraged to mix with friends outside of the DSP and to participate in extra-curricular activities. Our ethos is for students to leave school, continue in further education or to gain high quality employment.

DESIGNATED SPECIAL PROVISION

Page 2: DSP

The DSP is a specialist provision for students with moderate learning difficulties. Students would normally be offered a place in the provision if they are working at or below National Curriculum level 1. This provision is not suitable for students whose main need is BESD or ASD. If you feel your child may be a candidate for the DSP, please discuss their individual needs with one of the specialist staff: Hannah Williams SENCO and Team Leader for the DSP.

Our team consists of four specialised teachers and four experienced Teaching Assistants. Students will be allocated a keyworker who they will meet during a comprehensive transition programme towards the end of Year 6, so they will see a friendly and familiar face on their first day at College. The role of the keyworker is to take an overview of the progress of the learning and ensure that we have put everything is place to help students succeed. They also carry out annual reviews. The relationship between keyworker and family are key to providing all the support required during the students time at College.

The DSP curriculum is broad and balanced. It is differentiated and suitably modified around the individual needs of each student, incorporating

the requirements of the National Curriculum. DSP students are incredibly fortunate to have exceedingly low teacher to student ratios and

high quality Teaching Assistant support. Students are taught in small focused groups for English,

Science, Maths and Humanities and are taught in mainstream groups for tutorials, PE, Art and

Design and Design Technology. However we ensure their bespoke timetable gives us the

flexibility of moving back into mainstream lessons with transition and rigorous monitoring to ensure

the student has progressed sufficiently.
