Live loads and lateral loads require additional structural weight bearing members A live load may be defined as a second story deck supported by aluminum columns. The walking surface and movement would define this as a live load A lateral load (carport or gazebo) would be defined as a load that would have potential lateral movement with no attachment to a stationary building 32. Installation An eccentric load is a load applied unevenly to all column staves. This will cause staves to bend and bow under load A concentric load is when weight is applied evenly to all columns staves Load bearing plates are available A properly installed column will: Carry a concentric load top and bottom Staves at the base may be cut to match porch slope All staves will be the same length unless porch slopes Joist/Header to be in contact with all staves Columns will be attached at the top and bottom 33.
