DS1 EFM Line Module Total Access 5000 DS1 32-port EFM Line Module Product Features ■ Supports up to 32 DS1 Interfaces ■ Link Resiliency with AnyPort Bonding ■ Up to 32 EFM Groups per module ■ Collects performance monitoring data in 15 minute and 24 hour increments ■ Interoperable with ADTRAN NetVanta 800 Series NTU ■ Supported by Total Access EMS ■ Industry-leading ten year warranty Traditionally it has been very difficult to get IP/Ethernet service to a customer that is off of the service provider’s network without running fiber to a Remote Terminal (RT). The ADTRAN ® Total Access ® 5000 allows consolidation to all-Ethernet backhaul architecture, while providing access options to meet a provider’s service portfolio. The Total Access 5000 DS1 EFM Line Module leverages IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) to bond DS1s together to create a converged Ethernet over TDM transport infrastructure that carries IP/ Ethernet traffic to remote customers through the use of leased DS1s until it is economically feasible to run fiber to the RT. In a traditional network customers were reached using TDM through the purchase of T1s. The next generation network is IP/ Ethernet based, creating problems delivering IP/Ethernet service to all of the customers currently serviced by TDM whether fiber access is available or not. Using the ADTRAN Total Access 5000 DS1 EFM Line Module Service providers can get IP/Ethernet service to any of their customers currently serviced by TDM using an Ethernet over TDM solu- tion. The ADTRAN Total Access 5000 has a pure Ethernet core and in the DS1 EFM Line Module the DS1s are bonded together using EFM bonding techniques allowing Ethernet to be send out over existing TDM infrastructure. An ADTRAN NetVanta ® 800 Series of NTU is used to terminate this service at the customer site. The Ethernet over TDM solution extends the reach of IP/Ethernet to any customer that can be reached by using the existing TDM infrastructure. EFM bonding allows DS1s to be dynami- cally added or subtracted (due to unlikely span failures), providing resiliency with sub 50 ms failover times to support critical traffic Additionally, DS1 EFM Line Modules can be deployed in adjacent slots and configured using any port bonding (DS1s from different Line Modules included in the same EFM group) to provide resiliency to a bonded circuit by protecting against unlikely hardware failure on a DS1 EFM Line Module, keeping EFM groups up even when a card is in failure state. Front panel LEDs include power, card status, and loop status for each network port. The DS1 EFM Line Module supports craft interface management via the Total Access 5000 System Controller Module (SCM). More comprehensive management is available using the Total Access Element Management System (EMS) including simplified service provisioning through the EZ-Ethernet features of the EMS. All provisioning is supported through the SCM communications link. All provisioning data is store in nonvolatile memory for recovery after a power loss and optional auto-provisioning is supported via the SCM. Smart Solutions for a Connected World.
