The DRYOMATIC AFD Series is a complete factoryengineered and fabricated desiccant dehumidification systemwith performance capabilities as shown on AFD data sheets*.The desiccant dehumidifier is a complete stand-alone systemwith all necessary controls, blowers, rotors, drivecomponents, reactivation components and filtration providingcontinuous automatic operation.
* AFD Data Sheets are available upon request
STANDARD FEATURES
Desiccant Rotor Cassette is comprisedof synthesized silica gel desiccant in a hightemperature fiber substrate, designed forcontinuous operation. Rotation is continuousby a gear motor and drive, factory set to thecorrect rotational speed to ensure optimumperformance. The rotor is supplied withseals to prevent leakage from reactivation toprocess air stream.
Process and Reactivation Blowerswith Drive Motors: The process blower isbelt driven with adjustable pulley designedfor external static pressure as listed in the attached schedule.Reactivation blower is direct drive supplied with a TEFCmotor. See AFD data sheets for performance.
Microprocessor Controller is used to monitor andcommand all functions of the dehumidifier with a display panelprovided for indication as well as operator instructions. Standardconfiguration includes: remote system enabled; remote humid-istat enabled. Alarms for following are standard: process andreactivation air loss; process and reactivation clogged filter; rotorrotation fault, and high temperature alarm with manual reset.
Filtration shall be 30%, 2 inch thick pleated type perASHRAE 52.76 for process air and permanent cleanable type forreactivation air. Higher efficiency filters available on request.
Electrical Components and wiring will be in compliancewith NFPA70, NEC code and UL 1995 2nd edition. A NEMA4 electrical enclosure mounted on the unitprovides single point power connection*for the dehumidifier with step downtransformers for 120 volt and 24 voltcontrols. External control wiring shall be24 volts unless otherwise noted. Thecontrol panel will contain all terminalblocks, circuit breakers, contactors andrelays necessary for operation.
* Not applicable with optional remote condensing unit
OPTIONAL FEATURES
PreCool or PostCool system shall be equipped with acooling coil with copper tubes and aluminum fins, unlessotherwise specified.
DX systems, the condensing unit can be factory mountedor remotely installed with 2nd point power connection andsized for required capacity with full floating hot gas bypassfor final capacity control.
Chilled water systems, capacity control is by a fieldsupplied valve using a 0-10VDC modulating signal from themicroprocessor controller.
REACTIVATION OPTIONS
Electric Reactivation uses heavy duty open type electricheaters for fast rate of heat transfer designed with the lowestpossible watt density to assure long life. High graderesistance wires of 80/20 NiCr are supported by ceramicinsulators held in place with stainless steel straps. Modulatingheater control for accurate heat output. KW capacity designedto suit the application.
Gas Reactivation is provided by a direct-fired burnerwith all necessary gas controls and safety devices to ensurecontinuous automatic operation and interfaced with themicroprocessor controller to maximize energy efficiency bybeing activated and deactivated upon command to modulateand provide the required heat to maintain space conditions. The gas train will be in accordance with IRI/FM requirements
and is provided with a single point gasinlet connection.
Steam Reactivation uses steam coils.Control for the field supplied steam valvewill be a dry set of contacts for on/offcontrol or a 0-10VDC signal formodulating control. Signal contacts willbe supplied in the unit control box.

All of the major components shall be installed to provide anarchitecturally compatible, aesthetically pleasing package. The cabinet assembly is provided with removable panels andhinged doors for ease of access and maintenance. The systemis mounted on a structurally engineered base skid, designed tosupport the full weight of the unit and to facilitate siterigging. Wrap around flat sheets incorporated to minimizethe number of joints and leaks. The unit shall be single(double) wall construction with a minimum of 1”armaflex (2”fiberglass insulation).
The desiccant rotor, with proper filtration and maintenance, isdesigned for 87,600 hours of continuous use. Washing off ofdust accumulated under normal circumstances shall notdegrade the integrity of the desiccant rotor. The longevity isbased on maintaining 90% minimum of full ratedperformance. Warranty certification is issued with each rotor
from the manufacturer applicable to the particular application. The entire desiccant rotor cassette can be removed forservicing when needed.
For gas reactivation systems, the reactivation plenum shall beof double wall construction with 2” glass fiber insulation tominimize the heat transfer to the process air stream andprevent injury to operators. The inner liner shall beconstructed of 304 stainless steel. All glass fiber insulationshall be completely enclosed to prevent contamination of theprocess air stream. For electric heat reactivation, the heaterframes shall be made of .187-.250 diameter 300 seriesstainless steel.
FACTORY TESTINGEach unit shall be factory tested for proper operation to meetthe quality standards. The unit will be tested and approvedfor electrical operations, as well as mechanical operationbefore shipment.
