Some people are under the impression that diabetic patients should not eat fruits. Diabetics should and eat many fiber rich fruits as such fruits help in controlling blood sugar levels like:
Due to their low glycaemic index, they promote a gradual increase in sugar levels that is greatly ben-eficial to diabetic patients.Fruit juices are not recommended as for one thing more than one fruit is needed for a glass of juice and/or sugar syrup may be also added, above all the fiber which is needed is removed during prepara-tion.Fruits that spike the sugar levels and should be avoided by a diabetic are:
Studies have shown that 75 gms of fruits like: blue-berries, pineapple, pears give 10 gms of carbohy-drates.
100 gms of guavas, lemons, peaches, strawberries, papaya provide 10gms of carbohydrates.
150 gms of coconut meat, raspberries, gooseberries provide 1o gms of carbohydrates.
Sugar is present in the form of fructose in fruits, this has an additional benefit for diabetics as it does not need insulin for its metabolism, hence a diabetic patient can eat fruits normally like non-diabetic.
Fruits provide vitamins, minerals and fibers neces-sary for a healthy diet. Manganese present in citrus fruits is an important constituent of insulin.
Pomsteen juice which is a mixture of pomegranate and mangosteen being the main ingredients have a high ORAC value (excellent scavengers of free radicals),Moreover these two fruits have COX2 inhibitors, COX2 (which is an enzyme) a chemical in the body that causes inflammation. This is found in people having joint pains, arthritis, Parkinson’s , Alzheimer’s , Cancer and Diabetes.
Mangosteen in particular helps people with diabe-

tes by slowing and stopping insulin resistance, this along with Pomegrante have blood sugar lowering capabilities..
When the cell’s resistance to glucose ceases after the intake of Pomsteen, blood sugar may drop significantly in some cases and in most cases however, the drop in blood sugar levels take about a fortnight or so, people lose weight as it does not increases appetite or cause fliud retention.
Experience with diabetic patients reveal that after the intake of Pomsteen, the blood sugar improves especially in TYPE 2 conditions, whose pancreas produce some insulin, TYPE 2 people should use 15ml of POMSTEEN daily and should increase their dosage only after a month as the blood sugar flunctuations would decrease by then. Again to reiterate these ALOE VERA based treatments are just supplements which help in absorption and hence the improvements in the body condition and increase in the immune system.

Here is my impossible dream: A world without Smokers! Can I take on the tobacco lobby? It is incredibly powerful and far more resourceful than I am. But still counting on your support, I hereby attempt my first small step towards realisation of this impossible dream.
Ex-Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko’s death due to polonium made big news, but few realise that the same polonium is also present in cigarette smoke, and is one of the main causes of lung cancer in smokers.
In 1982, hundreds of smokers stopped the habit after reading an article “Radioactivity in cigarette smoke” in the New England journal of medicine. T.H. Winters and J R Difranza of the university of Massachussets Medical centre wrote that cigarette contains radioactivity in the form of polonium-210 and lead-210. The report claimed that a person smoking one-and-a half pack of cigarettes per day receives a dose to certain regions of the lung equal to 300 chest X-Ray’s per year. “THE RISK CANNOT BE IGNORED”. These carcinogens, which deliver high radiation doses, are also inhaled by passive smokers, breathing in air which contains other people’s smoke.
Many non-smokers feel angry or frustrated by tobacco smoke at work, in public places, clubs and other private places. Passive smoking is much more than a nuisance to most non-smokers. Many non-smokers find that tobacco smoke causes: • Sore eyes
• Headaches • Coughing • Wheezing • A runny nose • A blocked-up nose • Hoarseness• People with Asthma may find that passive smoking precipitates an attack.• Many contact lens users find that tobacco smoke affects their vision.
The Cancer Stick
• The children of smokers are more likely to get Bronchitis, Pneumonia and other chest infections.• In Women, cigarette smoking is a major risk factor for Ischaemic heart disease, High blood pressure and cancers. In the western world over the past seven decades there has been a sharp decline in smoking among men, but not among women; teenage women smoke at higher rates than their male counterparts. The Nurses’ Health study showed that one-third of the excess risk of Ischaemic heart disease was eliminated two years after smoking cessation, and that all of the excess risk was eliminated by 10 to 14 years after smoking cessation.• Most Adult smokers acquire their habit as teenagers. Because of the addictive properties of Nicotine, preventing of the initiation of tobacco abuse is the tobacco control intervention of choice. It is very important to discourage initial tobacco use amongst teenagers. To them my message is: Smoking does not make you cool. Chicks don’t love it.• Smoking cessation prolongs life, decreases morbidity and improves quality of life, even in individuals who quit after age 65 or those with established disease. Hence any age is right age to quit smoking. Counselling regarding the health implications of tobacco abuse is very effective in motivating smokers to attempt cessation. Ninety percent of successful quitters will stop smoking without the aid of nicotine replacement systems and other pharmaco-therapeutic agents.• I shall have nothing but praise and gratitude for every person who gives up smoking and for every teenager who does not take up smoking.• At any age meeting up in the club certainly beats catching up in the cancer ward or in the Intensive Coronary Care Unit (ICCU).
