DRIVERS, SCENARIO PLANNING, AND FUTURE OPTIONS FOR COASTAL COMMUNITIES
IN PARATY, BRAZIL
Paraty, RJDecember 9th ,2010
Luiz Eduardo Chimello de OliveiraPhD Candidate, Natural Resources Institute
- Coastal communities are facing faster and more unpredictable changes
- Paraty (Caiçara communities) is currently impacted by different drivers, such as tourism growth, protected areas, industrial development, depletion of fish stocks, among others
- These changes impact the sustainability of both ecosystem services and human well-being
Introduction
Purpose
To understand how drivers interact at
different spatial and temporal scales, and cause
changes in ecosystem services and human well-
being in Caiçara communities in the region of Paraty.
Human systems
Biophysical systems
