Green/Sustainable Procurement is a journey not a destination

Our Mission

University Procurement supports Drexel University’s educational mission and administrative needs in accordance with the University's policies and procedures by assisting faculty and staff in obtaining timely, high quality products and services at low prices utilizing good business practices and professional ethics.

University’s Purchasing Philosophy

• The University has a decentralized purchasing process that utilizes contracts for goods and services which strategically leverages the University’s buying power.

• We strive to provide the necessary buying tools, training, and support to effectively, efficiently, and ethically purchase products and services.

• Typically the purchase of products and services that– Uses renewable energy sources & recycled

materials– Uses non-toxic materials– Protects and restores the earths natural

resources– Is efficient and equitable

Green Thinking prior to 2008

• Utilized Philadelphia Area Collegiate Cooperative (PACC) to consolidate vendors and deliveries

• PACC created a Green Committee to promote and incorporate Green/Sustainable buying practices

• Promoted office equipment consolidation

• Identified a vendor who could offer refurbished furniture options

• Investigated and piloted recycled options

• Partnered with Facilities to investigate opportunities for decreasing energy consumption and increasing energy efficiency

• Develop mechanisms for increasing awareness and utilization of green/sustainable products

• Market products or programs offered by preferred vendors/suppliers, supporting green/sustainable goals.

• Create an opportunity to repurpose existing furniture/fixtures in storage
