History• DreamWorks film studio began in California, 1994

• Founded by Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and David Geffen

• The company was financially backed by the three founders & the co-

founder of Microsoft, Paul Allen which contributed $500. million

dollars

• In 2004, DreamWorks animation department split away from the main

company becoming “DreamWorks Animation, Inc.”

• Katzenberg became CEO of DreamWorks

Employee• Employees come from over 30 different countries

• The company welcomes over 1,400 employees and guests

Financials

• DreamWorks has earned year ended December 31, 2011 $706.0 million

• Revenue decreased by 10% from the prior year 2010, due to the release of

only two feature films in 2011, opposed to 2010 which has three

feature film releases

• Live performances have also contributed to the drop in revenue; the cost to

do live performances costs approximately $45.8 million

• The cost of revenues for the year ending December 31, 2011, was a total of

$480.7 million

• In 2010, the cost of revenue also decreased by $25.7 million

• In 1999, 2000, and 2001 DreamWorks won three consecutive Academy

Awards for Best Picture for American Beauty , Gladiator, and A

Beautiful Mind

• DreamWorks teamed up with Universal Studios to create Gladiator

and A Beautiful Mind

• The most successful movie produced was Shrek 2, grossing

$920,665,658. million dollars which won the first-ever Academy Award

for Best Animated Feature Film

• DreamWorks digital animation studio is perennially ranked in the top

tier by Great Place to Work Institute and boasts a 97 % retention

rate.
