What are the major differences between in-house development and outsourcing?

Needless to say, these can have a major impact on the success of your application.

Usually clients provide the requirements to the Outsourcing partner. The partner looks after the development and shows the demos to the client at the end of each iteration. If the client realizes that some parts are not as per his expectations, a lot of changes might be required in the system. This leads to increase in time to market and cost. In some cases, it might be difficult to accommodate the change and workarounds might be required. Also the process is not transparent enough to provide quality assurance.

Amazon Web Services : Digital Content Management System

This is a complete digital content management system. Users can upload images, PDFs, videos (upto 2

GB). The content is converted to various other forms (like flip book, preview video, etc). These can

then be embedded in other websites via gallery. The system is built to handle parallel processing, fault

tolerancy, error handling, etc. Amazon EC2 and S3 are used for high performance processing and

storage.

Microsoft Azure : Job Portal

We are building a unique Job portal, expecting and capable of handling huge amount of load, using

Microsoft Azure. This application has Service Oriented Architecture(SOA), load balancing and many

more features to improve the performance, scalability and reliability of the portal.

Google App Engine : Online Editor

We have built one of the most powerful applications using Google App Engine and Python. Whats so

complex about it? Google App Engine does not allow you to modify files from code. Client wanted a

complete administration console from where he can modify all static files, images, header, footer, etc.

So all such files (including images) were stored in database. Now administrator can modify css, js files,

upload images, etc and they are served like normal files on website.

Salesforce : Salesforce Customization & Force.com app

A major medical company from US decided to opt for salesforce as their CRM. However they needed to

modify it according to their needs. It was not just about adding new objects, fields and workflows. The

wanted some major changes in functionality. So we used Apex to customize it and provided them more

than what they asked.

We are also building a force.com app for an INC 5000 company.
