===============================================================================
I was not intending to write a FAQ for DQV, but the further I got
into the game the more I fell in love with it, and wanted to
discover as much as I could. The best way to ensure this was to
write a walkthrough, and so I've included the kinds of things I
wanted to know, for example: what increases to attack and defence
the equipment has, and what I'm supposed to do next, when I've just
spent hours gambling at the Casino and totally forgotten. I played
the (EU) game for the first time without any prior knowledge of the
story, and that's the best way if you can manage it. Therefore,
I've tried not to spoil the story, though sometimes my enthusiasm
might get the better of me! Anyway, that's why I've given place
names in the contents, and divided the walkthrough into three
parts, (the three 'generations') so you can look up a particular
location and not find out more that you might want to know, for
that point in the game.

-----------------05. STATUS CHANGES -----------------Bad status
effects are not so bad in this game, because you can always switch
in unaffected party members on the next turn, assuming you have
some, of course. Only Poison, and sometimes Curse, lasts after the
battle, and most other effects wear off quickly. You can inflict
these on enemies as well.

-------------06. CHARACTERS -------------At the beginning of the
game you have the option to name the main character, (I refer to
him as Hero) and he will be on his own at first. However, what
makes this game such enormous fun, is that you will add many more
characters to your party, some of whom are human, but most of which
are monsters that you recruit. How many, and which of these you
obtain, is dependent partly on luck and persistence. See the Lists
section if you want more details about your potential allies, and
their potential powers! Note that later in the game your human
allies will have to be added to the party. To do this you must
speak to Patty the Party Planner, who is found in the bar at Gotha
Castle. Also, if you have four humans in the party, then they will
automatically appear in the active group when you enter a town, or
start exploring a dungeon that restricts the number to four. You
can change them from the Miscellaneous "Line-Up" menu.
---------------07. MAGIC SPELLS ---------------The Hero learns
these skills and spells as he (yep, no gender option) gains
experience from battles, and levels up. Some spells are only for
battle, and others can only be used in the field. Healing spells
can be used at any time. The last two spells on the list are
event-based.

Kerplunk * This spell requires at least 1 MP to use, but actually
it drains all MP. ----------------------08. MONSTER RECRUITMENT
----------------------Soon after the start of the second part of
the game (generation 2) you will be able to start recruiting
monsters to your team. When you reach a town called Fortuna, you
can buy a wagon (ONLY AT NIGHT), from a special shop situated in
the north-west corner. You must also talk to Monty the Monster
Monitor, who has a comfortable monster cave in Fortuna, and will
explain the system of recruitment. After this, you can recruit
monsters simply by fighting one and killing it. Then, it might
decide to join you, and you have the option to accept or reject its
offer. Make sure that the one you want to recruit is the last
monster that you kill if there is more than one recruitable type in
the enemy group. Monsters in your party will not respond to your
commands until they achieve 20 points for the Wisdom attribute, so
it's a good idea to keep them out of the active team until you can
give them orders. Not all monsters can be recruited, (see the
monster lists for details of which ones can and which can't), and
you don't have to recruit any at all if you don't want to. But they
can make the difference between winning and losing battles more
often than you might expect, and anyway, recruitment is a large
part of the fun! Recruitment really depends on player luck (not the
game luck statistic) and your current level, and some monsters are
very hard to get. The more of a particular kind that you kill, the
better the chance that one might join you. Your current level is
also a factor, and you are are unlikely to be able to recruit
monsters that are more powerful than you. A little later (after
completing events with Harry at Abovitall Tower and Coburg) you can
buy the Big Book of Beasts from the same shop in Fortuna. This
gives you details of all monsters you have killed, whether or
not they can be recruited, and various other information, including
what item they might drop. However, enemy drops are only shown if
you have received the item already, or killed 11 or more of that
monster. The recruitment categories are: Easy, Occasionally and
Hard to recruit, and lastly: Unrecruitable. You can have up to
eight active members of your party at one time, and everyone will
gain equal experience from battles, whether or not they are in your
fighting team of four. Excess monsters travel in the wagon and can
be used in battle if you change the line-up at the start of a turn.
However, there are some dungeons where the wagon is not permitted
access, and only the four party members will receive experience.
You can have nearly as many monsters as you like (there is an upper
limit of around 70, I believe, though I haven't confirmed this),
and they will stay with Monty the Monster Monitor until you decide
to add them to the party. You can also recruit up to three of one
kind, (although it is harder to recruit another one of the same
type) and change their given names as well. Monsters left behind
with Monty won't gain any experience, and any items they are
carrying will be returned to you, although they hang on to their
equipment. NOTE: Enemies listed in the walkthrough with an (R) can
be recruited. ----------09. STORAGE ----------Character: 12 items
including all equipped things. Bag : Unlimited storage. Wagon :
Limited to 4 allies, whether human or monster. Monsters : Store
spare monsters with Monty. Bank : Store your gold here in case of
defeat. (No interest is paid.) -----------------10. LIFE AND DEATH
-----------------If your HP or that of an ally reaches 0, then you
will be incapacitated, and will have to be resurrected at a church.
The priest will charge for this service, based on how high the
levels. Later on you will have access to a spell (Zing) which has a
chance of resurrecting a party member, and some allies will have
the spell (Kazing) which guarantees resurrection. Also, you can
obtain the item Yggdrasil Leaf, which restores life as well as full
health. There are other spells which can be used in an emergency,
but you won't have access to those until much later in the game. If
the main character dies, the battle will continue and, when you
enter a town, the party will take you to the church and there is no
charge for resurrection. However, if you move the Hero to the wagon
after death, then you'll have to take him to the church yourself
and pay for the resurrection. If everyone dies then you will lose
half your cash, but other than that there is no penalty. During the
early stages of the game, if someone dies in battle, then after the
fight has ended they will be restored with 1 HP, so you don't have
to keep using the church for resurrection. Inns are a useful
standby, and cheap, and the price is based on the number of party
members. ---------------
11. THE CHURCH -------------The church offers a number of
services besides saving your game. Confession Resurrection
Benediction Divination Save your game. Bring back from the dead at
a cost based on current level. Remove a curse at a cost based on
current level. Tell you how many experience points are needed for
the next level for all party members. Purification - Cure poison.
----------------12. DAY AND NIGHT ----------------Time passes and
day turns to night, and night to day. This occurs quickly while
walking and fighting on the world map, and is clearly visible.
Sometimes it's essential to be in a town at night if you want to
find a particular shop open, or it might need to be daylight for
houses to be open and available to raid for items and chat to the
inhabitants. You can use a spell: "Tick-Tock" to change from one to
the other, or use the item "Night-Light" to change day to night.
---------13. EXTRAS ---------There are a number of optional extras
in this game, besides the challenge of recruiting all the
recruitable monsters. You can visit two casinos and play a variety
of mini-games there, and collect Knick-Knacks and Mini Medals. You
can test your luck on a tombola and your DS stylus skills with a
slime version of Whack-a-Mole. There are also 5 T'n'T boards to
find and conquer, and for these you require a T'n'T Ticket to play.
(Although later you can win a free pass.) The Knick-Knacks are
really just collectible items, and you can show them in a kind of
museum, although some of them have other uses, besides display. The
T'n'T boards give some excellent items and prizes, and the casino
allows you to buy a range of items with the tokens you win. Collect
a lot of Mini Medals and you can 'buy' some equipment with these.
===============================================================================
III. H I N T S A N D T I P S
........................................*TIPS
===============================================================================
o Use the PEEP command on any item or piece of equipment to be
shown details of what it can be used for, and how much money you
sell it for. You will also be told exactly who (in your current
party) can equip a piece of armour or weapon. o If you are trying
to recruit particular monsters, then use the skill "Whistle" to
trigger a battle. You can also use the item "Musk" or "Monster
Munchies" to attract enemies for a short time. This is especially
useful if you find some rare ones in a particular place and don't
want to keep walking around hoping for a random fight. o Later in
the game you can obtain the item, Sands of Time, (a prize for the
4th T'n'T Board) and this can be used to rewind to the start of a
battle. Use this to help defeat and recruit monsters that run away!
o Keep just_recruited allies in the wagon to level them up before
bringing -
them into the active party. Remember that monsters must have 20
Wisdom points before they will obey orders! o Answering No to some
questions will prompt information. (You don't know something, so
people will tell you things!) However, you can always pick the
alternative answer if you don't get what you want the first time. o
You can change weapons and armour during a battle, as well as using
many of them as an item, whether or not they are equipped. Changing
equipment does not take up a turn, although using something as an
item does. o Give a staff or weapon to someone, and with your
tactics set to Fight Wisely, they might use this as an item (even
if it's something they cannot equip). This could be to heal
someone, or cast a defensive or attack spell. This is handy, as it
saves on MP use. o When you have the option to add or remove human
party members, you must talk to Patty the Party Planner, who is
found in the bar on the second floor of Gotha Castle. This is the
ONLY place where you can do this! o If you can't find an item that
you know have obtained, first check out the bag, and then the item
inventory of your current team. Some items go directly into the
bag, and others into the first open inventory slot. If you still
can't find something, then check the inventories of any monsters
you have left in the Monster Garden.

IV. W A L K T H R O U G H ................. *WALK
===============================================================================
Please note that I have given strategies based on the human
characters in the game. Monster recruitment is unpredictable, and
very much depends on how long you play for, and chance. If you have
some powerful and useful monsters in your team, then many battles
will be much easier to win!

got a legitimate copy...) as the ship won't land. There is another
[MEDICINAL HERB] in the middle of three right hand barrels, and a
[T'N'T TICKET] in the last of the four barrels up the right hand
steps. Enter the door here and go down the steps, and down again
into another room. You'll see 8 locked treasure chests, but you
will NEVER be able to unlock these. The lower row of barrels
contains another [MEDICINAL HERB], and the top left one has another
[T'N'T TICKET]. Return to the deck and enter the door at the far
left and climb the stairs, and there is a [MEDICINAL HERB] in the
right hand chest of the posh bedroom. After docking, return to the
cabin in under the mast and speak with Pankraz, and you will get
the option to check back if you've missed anything. Walk up the
deck and you'll find him waiting by the gangplank with the Captain.
Speak to him to trigger a short scene. (Pay attention as later
decisions might be influenced by what you observe.) Speak to
Pankraz once more and answer yes (unless you want to chat to the
girl in the posh room), and you will leave the ship.

Your first major decision for the day is to play with Bianca, and
after that answer whatever you like. Talk to her again and she'll
leave, as will Pankraz after you speak to him. Now, you're free to
explore! Go down the hole in the corner of the room and you'll be
in a cellar. (Move the camera to view the open door in here.)
There's a useful [SEED OF STRENGTH] in the pot in the corner. A
book about recipes is in the right bookshelf at the back of the
main room, and there is a [POT LID] shield in the pot at the left
of the bookshelves (although you cannot equip this.) There is a
[MEDICINAL HERB] inside the cupboard opposite the bed. You'll find
a [LEATHER HAT] inside the wardrobe upstairs. Equip the Hat and use
the Seeds to boost Hero's attributes. By the way, if you can't find
an item in Hero's inventory, and you know you picked up, it will be
inside the bag and you can equip something directly from here.
Leave the house and enter the well. You'll see a few of these on
your travels, and they often contain something useful. There is a
sparkling item on the ground so check it out and you'll pick up the
[STONE FROM WHEALBROOK]. Now, head over the bridge to the left and
talk to man tilling his garden. He will tell you about the
Whealstone bluestones. NOTE If you don't find the stone in the
well, and talk to the farmer, then you
won't find this item in the cave. Believe me, I checked!
However, there is another chance to find it much later in the game,
if you happen to miss it now. Enter the weapon shop and there is a
[MEDICINAL HERB] inside the cupboard. By now you'll notice that
excess items get placed in the bag. You can only carry 12 items,
but the bag has endless capacity, so no worries about running out
of space. Also, press Y and you'll see the layout of the town.
There's the weapon shop, item shop, inn and church, and you should
save your game there before going any further afield. Bianca is
staying at the inn, if you want to chat to her again, and her mum
will tell you about a missing man, but there's nothing to find in
here. If you check out the item shop behind the church, it won't be
selling anything just yet, and access to the back room is blocked.
You can't enter the house by the river, so that's everything for
now. You won't be permitted to leave town, so head down the path
alongside the river and you can enter the Whealbrook Adit (cave).

game, and is used as part of another Knick-Knack.) Enemies : 001
Slime, 002 Burr Baby, 003 Boring Bug, 004 Dracky, 005 Hammerhood,
006 Bunicorn
------------------------------------------------------------------------------Walk
down the left bank of the stream and enter the cave. If you wish to
save on herbs, after fighting a few battles, then leave the cave
and return to Sancho's house (where you're staying) and you can
sleep and heal by talking to him. You can do this as often as you
like until you find the missing man. The first side path to the
left has a treasure chest with a [MEDICINAL HERB]. Level up to 3 on
the first floor where the enemies are easy to defeat, and then
enter the hole in the second left path that takes you down to the
next floor. (Buy the Bamboo Spear if you want to increase your
attack power a little, but it's not essential. By the way, if you
want to know how much experience it takes to reach the next level
you must talk to the priest and ask for Divination.) You'll arrive
in the middle of a larger cave, First head right and down to find a
treasure chest with [50 GOLD]. Watch out for the Hammerhood enemy
as it can do a desperate attack that will hurt for anything up to
18 HP, and if there are a group of them you could be in trouble.
Walk left from the stairs and up past the sign and you'll find
another chest with a [LEATHER SHIELD]. Equip this immediately. The
next floor is reached from a hole at the end of the bottom left
path. Walk up the path and you will find the missing man (with the
appropriate name of Rockfeller). Speak to him and then, stand next
to the rock and agree to push it. He'll leave, and you can walk up
the path to the left and open a treasure chest for [WAYFARER'S
CLOTHES], which you can equip. Return to the rock and check it, and
you will find the [WHEALBROOK BLUESTONE]. Walk down the path to the
right and you'll find a helpful slime that tells you that there are
more monsters in forest and mountain areas than out in the open
country.
Keep using Herbs (or sleeping back home) to stay fully healed
and when you reach level 4 you'll get the Heal Spell. When you
return to the village you can chat to Bianca's mum and she'll react
to the finding of the missing man. Enter the item shop and it will
now be open for business and you can sneakily swipe a [HANDWOVEN
CAPE] from the cupboard in the back room, or be polite and talk to
the man you rescued first. If you return home and sleep, then
events will proceed and you'll leave Whealbrook, like it or not.

When you're back in charge, attempt to leave the room and Bianca
will join you. First check the bookshelf at the back of this room
and there is some information about furry friends. Walk up the
stairs to the top floor of the Inn and there is a [CHIMAERA WING]
inside the left drawers, and a [SEED OF RESILIENCE] in the right.
Go through the lower door on the second floor and this takes you to
the balcony where a chap will tell you about the "Toff's Tea Set"
at Uptaten Towers. If you exit the door that is opposite the door
to the back room you'll find someone in the garden with yet more
information about the toffs and towers. Leave the inn and explore,
though there's nothing else to find. However, if you walk left over
the small bridge, you'll find two boys teasing a cat. Talk to the
them both and there will be a challenge. Defeat the ghosts in
Uptaten Towers and you can have the cat. However, if you try to
leave town you won't be permitted, so there's nothing for it but to
return to the inn and speak to Pankraz. That night, Bianca will
wake you up and it's time to go ghost hunting! You can buy weapons
and armour at night, but you might want to save up for the
Boomerang and Thorn Whip which are excellent weapons for the two of
you. I sold off the excess Pot Lid and Handwoven Cape (Bianca comes
ready equipped with these, as well as a Paring Knife and a Seed of
Resilience) and just bought the Copper Sword for now. When you've
saved (advisable), set off into the dark wilderness. The Towers is
to the north of Roundbeck, but it's a good plan to do a bit of
general fighting first, in order to gain some gold for better
equipment and to level up Bianca. She starts at level 1 with no
skills or spells, but will quickly level up and gain the Frizz
spell at level 3. You can return to Whealbrook, but you won't get
past the sleeping guard. When you've had enough for one night
return to the inn and you will automatically go back to bed. After
the first trip, speak to Pankraz and you'll find he has a bad cold
and so you're going to stay in Roundbeck for the duration. What
this means is that you can take as long as you like in exploring
Uptaten. To progress to the next night, walk back downstairs and
you'll find Bianca at the table next to the inn counter. Speak to
her and agree to sleep. She'll wake you up again, and it's back to
work! That's the pattern of things until you've successfully
achieved your goal.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------MAP
: http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/file/942423/55988
------------------------------------------------------------------------------From
Roundbeck walk west, until you reach the coastline, and then head
north
until you are stopped by some mountains. Go east and you'll find
the Towers. There is an alternative route that involves crossing a
couple of small bridges to the north west of Roundbeck where
Jailcats can be encountered. Enter the tower when both of you are
at least level 6, and have upgraded your equipment, as you won't
find anything useful inside the Towers and the enemies are tough. I
bought the Thorn Whip for Bianca and the Leather Dress when I could
afford it. ------Arrival ------The front door is locked and so is
the door inside the underground cave entrance near the fire. Head
to the right and break the two pots for a [CHIMAERA WING] and a
[MEDICINAL HERB], and then continue around to the back of the
building. (Use the DS shoulder buttons to change the view so you
can see the steps that lead up to the roof of the castle.) Climb to
the top (there is another locked door to the right if you walk
along the balcony). When you enter the tower you'll be locked in
and a Chimaera Wing won't take you out, so there's nothing for it,
but to carry on until you find an exit. You are on floor 7 and in a
room with lots of coffins. Ignore these (there's nothing inside any
of them...) and approach the stairs to floor 6. Bianca will
disappear so Hero is now alone. ------Floor 6 ------On floor 6,
walk up between some statues and enter a door to the left. This
leads to the top balcony where you'll see two gravestones. (If you
enter the door here, you'll be in a library and can meet the
Countess, but there is no exit from this room, although one of the
shelves has a Collection of Love Poems.) Check the left gravestone
and you'll find Bianca. Go through the door to the library and
speak to the countess who will now reveal a staircase to the lower
floor. -----------------------Floor 6 - Secret Statue!
-----------------------Once you have Bianca back in the team,
return to the room with the 6 statues and investigate the middle
one at the left as you face the stairs. It will keep turning to
follow your movements after the initial attempt to talk to it, but
talk to it again and it comes alive! It looks much like a
terracotta warrior type enemy that you won't meet until a little
later in the game. At Level 6 hero will do around 11 points of
damage and Bianca's Frizz does a bit more than that. Use Dazzle on
it, and Kasap will lower its defence if Bianca has reached Level 7,
when she learns that spell. The statue does around the same in
response and with Dazzle in place there's a good chance its attacks
will miss. However, there's also a chance that it will do a
desperate attack which causes around 30-40 damage and can kill
Bianca outright. His other option is to assess the situation and do
nothing at all. He's not too difficult to beat (even without
Bianca's help) with around 100 HP, and you get 85 experience points
and 70 Gold, as well as a treasure chest. This contains a Seed of
Resilience which is a nice bonus. After the battle the statue will
be gone. Continue past the two graves (you can use a Chimera Wing
now if you wish to leave) into the library. (Many thanks to
chaoyun2k for information about this optional battle.)
-------------Floor 5, and 4 -------------There are still no
monsters to fight, so take your time to explore the large bedroom.
The cupboard in the bottom left corner contains the [SILVER TEA
TRAY], and the one opposite on the far wall has a [MEDICINAL HERB].
The next one has [HANDWOVEN CAPE]. Chat to the Countess who's
sitting on one of the sofas, and then walk through the Silver Door
to the right. Here you'll see a chandelier on the floor and a
broken floor. Either jump down the hole or descend the stairs, but
either way, you'll find yourself in an area that's dark and
contains lots of ghosts, although they won't attack you. There's
another hole in the floor but it's surrounded by ghosts so you'll
have to use the stairs again to reach floor 3. Wait until the
lightning strikes and you can see where you're going.
---------------Floor 3, 2 and 1 ---------------Battles start here!
You might fall down the hole, which is fine, but the more obvious
route is to walk left through the door and across a narrow path
over the ground floor. If you go down the hole you'll be in a room
on floor 2, with a chatty ghost. Speak to him for some information
about the dark world, and then go through the door to the left that
takes you over the main hall. When you reach the room at the far
side climb up the stairs and you'll see the count go through the
blue door at the far end of the room. If you don't fall through the
hole, then walk along the path (you can't fall off) and you'll find
the Count standing by the stairs and he'll head through the blue
door onto the balcony. (The stairs near the blue door lead up to an
area with more ghosts that block the way.) Follow him to the
outside balcony and talk to him. You'll have to say yes eventually,
but you can say no if you like. After talking to the Count, go back
inside and he will glide after you and give more help. You're going
to require some light, and you will find a [TORCH] in a jar in the
basement. He will also open the rusty doors, which means that the
front door will open, as well as the door to the inn. Descend the
stairs and this takes you to floor 2. right crossing back over the
lower hall. Then, go need to do is walk left and you'll be in the
main door to the entrance hall and then the main door, and go
without having to go the long way round. Walk through the door to
the down the stairs, and all you hall. First of all, open the and
now you can freely come
--------------------------Finding the Secret Treasure
--------------------------Use a Chimaera Wing to nip back to
Roundbeck if you wish, but you might as well continue, because you
now have access to an inn. Enter the left door and walk up and
speak to the flame innkeeper. Agree to stay, (it's free) and you
will find yourselves back outside with an old man, next to the fire
in front of the cave. Walk into the cave and check the door, and
now it will open. Follow the pathway to the right and then up the
stairs. You are now in the kitchen, but in a walled off area. The
right TC has the [SILVER TEACUP], the middle one [30 GOLD] and the
left a [SEED OF STRENGTH]. Head back down the stairs and outside
again. Go back inside the Towers and this time head left and down
the stairs in the inn area to the kitchen.
----------The Kitchen ----------There are two pots in the top
right corner of the kitchen and the [TORCH] is in the right one.
There's a [MEDICINAL HERB] in the left one. If you want a quick way
out of the kitchen and a battle, then approach the skeletons and
attempt to talk to them. (If you talk to the skeletons before
taking the items there won't be a battle with them.)
-------------With the Torch -------------Return to stairs in the
left room from the main hall and climb up to the next floor where
the Count will be standing. Head right over the main hall and in
the next room you'll see the treasure chests you cannot reach. Go
up the stairs and it will be dark, so open your inventory and
select to use the Torch. The ghosts will disappear and now you can
jump down the hole, and you'll land next to the chests. The right
one has a [CHIMAERA WING], and the left one has the [SILVER
TEAPOT]. Jump down the hole and walk left back across the main
hall. Now you can climb the stairs at the top of this room and,
after using the Torch again, the ghosts will disappear. Walk down
the room and then right and you will be at the open door to the
boss of this place. Walk up to him and whatever you answer, you'll
drop through a trapdoor down to the kitchen. (You can repeatedly
say No, but eventually you'll have to say Yes to proceed.) After a
bit of careful seasoning you'll be back at the main hall and have
to fight three easy Wax Murderers. They use Frizz spells but these
shouldn't do much damage to you. From the main hall walk left and
up the two sets of stairs until you reach the dark floor again. Use
the Torch once again and this time when you approach the room with
the boss, he will move out onto the balcony. Follow him through the
doors and talk to him to initiate the battle.
o-----------------------------------o | B O S S - HAUNTED
HOUSEKEEPER | o-----------------------------------o Rewards: 300
Experience each, 180 Gold. If Bianca is at level 7 then you will
have no difficulties at all since she can cast Kasap to lower the
monster's defence as well as Dazzle, which will partially blind him
and cause his attacks to miss. He will use Sizzle, which is a more
powerful spell that targets both of you for 12-20 HP damage, and
Dazzle doesn't stop spells from hitting. Keep healed and use Dazzle
again when the effects wear off. Other than that, keep hitting him
and use Sizz with Bianca. After the battle you'll be forced to
forgive the monsters, even if you don't want to. The Count and Miss
Count will leave you the gift of a GOLD ORB, and you'll be back at
the two graves. From here you can use a Chimaera Wing or walk back
down and collect any treasure that you missed. There are no more
monsters here. Ever! Also, I've been informed by a very reliable
source (thank you chaoyun2k!) that there are no monsters on the
world map for the time being. -----------
Return Home ----------As soon as you enter Roundbeck it will be
the end of this adventure, and the next day there will be a scene
with the boys and the cat. Bianca will offer a series of names and
you can accept one or not. Eventually she will start the list again
with the name Saber (I've used this name). Pick the one you want,
and you now have a new party member! Save your game at the church,
and you might think about stripping Bianca of all her stuff, since
you won't be seeing her for a while yet, but in fact the game does
this for you. You should have enough cash by now to buy the
Boomerang or some better armour for Hero, and it's the last chance
ever to buy the Hairband as the items for sale change by the time
you visit here again. When you're ready, talk to Pankraz who is
waiting for you at the door to the inn. He'll give you a chance to
say your last goodbyes if there's anything you've forgotten, and
then heads off back to Whealbrook with you in tow. Bianca gives you
her ribbon as you leave. If you have a battle on the way, your new
ally, Saber, will join in the fray. Yep, you've got a fighting cat!

NOTE: If you sleep at the inn, you will wake up back in Whealbrook.
To return to Faerie Lea, go down to the basement and up the magic
stairs again. The route to Faerie Lea is a slightly convoluted one.
After your success at Uptaten Towers, you will be back in
Whealbrook, and Pankraz is busy and tells you to amuse yourself,
but not leave town. Wander around the place (with Saber
and his ribbon) and you'll find out that weird things are
happening. There is also a new arrival standing next to the church.
If you speak to him, you'll have to show him your Gold Orb. (I
could make a joke about golden balls, but I won't.) By the way, you
might think this is an essential encounter, but it isn't, so
there's no need to worry if you happen to miss it. Now, investigate
the other odd occurrences. Check with Sancho, the lady in the first
house, the Innkeeper, the barman, and...look carefully and you will
see a ghostly figure next to the bar directly opposite the stairs
that lead down from the ground floor of the inn. Talk to the
apparition, and then head back home to Sancho's house and go down
into the cellar. Here you will find Honey, the faerie. Who could
resist an invitation to faerie land? Well, even if you try, there's
no point, since you'll end up there anyway. This is an icy realm,
and Treacle (the leader) will explain that the Herald of Spring,
one of the faerie treasures, is missing. It's been stolen, and
without it spring will never arrive, and the poor things are
condemned to everlasting winter. Agree to help them, and Honey will
join the party. (I kept hoping to run into a faerie called Golden
Syrup but maybe that's just a British thing.) Go down the stairs
and there is a church where you can save your game before setting
forth. Honey joins you at level 7 and she has the Heal spell, as
well as a full set of equipment, but you cannot change her stuff or
directly control her. Take the stairs down to the next level and
this is a library where you can find out a little more about where
you should go. North, of course! Leave the library by the doors at
the bottom of the screen. Walk directly south across the ice and
you will be on a snow covered island. Look closely to your right
and there is something gold and sparkling on the ground. You can
pick up a [SEED OF LIFE]. Continue, and you will enter the village.
There is a Village Shop inside the inn, selling pretty much the
same stuff you've seen already. However you can buy Stone Fangs for
Saber. Talk to the skeleton and say no, and he will give you some
information about a Dwarf who knows about locks. The Armour shop is
over to the right, and there is a [HOLY WATER] inside in the
cupboard. You could invest in the Leather Kilt for Saber to boost
his defence by quite a bit. When you start exploring you'll find
that Saber and Honey cannot be directly controlled, although Honey
will act sensibly and heal you when needed. Saber (and any monster
you recruit later on) won't respond to your orders until his Wisdom
reaches 20 points.

: 25 Gold, 100 Gold, Seed of Agility, 'LOTS ABOUT LOCKS', 128 Gold,
Seed of Life. Enemies : 013 Lickspittle, 014 Frizzard, 017 Time
Burrm, 020 Lava Larva, 021 Will-o'-the-Whips.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------From
Faerie Lea, walk to the west following the line of woods, and then
go
north towards the mountains at the west of the map. Here you'll
find a cave opening. Once inside, walk down and then left to find
two treasure chests containing [25 Gold] and [100 GOLD]. Talk to
the slime and Dwarf in the central room and you'll find out that
Dwight has gone off somewhere, and the item you need is locked away
in a chest. Continue heading down the passage to a hole in the
floor. There is another hole just to your left when you arrive at
the bottom of the stairs, but this just leads to an empty cave with
a fellow adventurer and a harmful pond of purple. Instead, head up
the cave and take the first turning to the right to find the next
stairs down. Walk right a few steps, and you'll find a chest with a
[SEED OF AGILITY]. Take the next path to the right and there is
another hole in the ground stair. Go down here and north and you'll
find the book ['LOTS ABOUT LOCKS']. Head back to the blue doors and
they will magically open. There's another treasure chest on the
other side, with [128 GOLD]. Down the screen is another chest with
a [SEED OF LIFE]. Open the doors next to it and climb up the
stairs. Walk left and up the stairs ahead of you. Then go left
again and down the cave to find the stairs back to the first floor.
You can chat to the dwarf again if you wish, but you don't need to.
(And you won't find Dwight just yet.) After this short excursion
head back to Faerie Lea, and you might want to buy better equipment
as well as sleep at the inn. If you do that, you'll wake up back in
Whealbrook. Go down to the basement again to return to Faerie Lea.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------TASK
: Beat the boss to obtain the Herald of Spring for the Faeries.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------Items
: Seed of Wisdom, Chimaera Wing, 5 Gold, Boomerang, Herald of
Spring. Knick-Knacks: Blooming Branch (on return to Whealbrook)
Enemies : 018 Prestidigitator, 024 Drackyma, 028 Spiked Hare, 029
Brrrattling Snake, Area Enemies: 012 Bona Constrictor, 013
Lickspittle, 016 Mental Pitcher, 018 Prestidigitator, 019
Cactiball.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------MAP
: http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/file/942423/56017
------------------------------------------------------------------------------WARNING:
After completing this task, the Winter Palace will disappear, so
make sure to obtain all treasure, although most of it is not worth
the effort. You also might want to fight a dozen or so of every
enemy here, if you aim to complete your list of all monsters and
the items they drop. Before setting out, make sure you have some
spare Medicinal Herbs and the best armour you can afford. This
place specialises in groups of enemies that can hurt you badly, and
you've got to walk all the way there. Walk to the north-west area
of the map where you can see a small lake. Enter the cavern and
first of all walk/slide left along the ice to find a chest
containing a [SEED OF WISDOM]. The Brrrattling Snake enemies can
pose a problem if they turn up in groups, which they will. They use
an ice spell on everyone which can do a lot of damage if three of
them use this during one turn. Keep healed, although
even if someone 'dies' they will be restored to life after the
battle ends, and you can heal them back to full health. You'll also
notice that Hero moves with a sliding motion progressing four steps
at once. And, yes, you've guessed already, this is going to be one
of those sliding puzzle places. -------Entrance -------After
learning the lock lore from the book in the Dwarf's cave you can
open the door. You are faced with a room of ice blocks, and a hole
directly in front of you. Slide forwards and drop down to the next
floor. --------Floor 2 A --------Slide up one step and then left,
then up to the block at the left side of the room, then right as
far as your slide takes you. Go up, then right and up, and you will
be at the stairs back up to the main floor.
------------------Treasure - Optional ------------------If you want
to get the treasure, then it's a long journey and you'll end up
with insufficient MP for the boss fights, so you will probably need
to leave and return. I did, anyway. From the stairs, on Floor 1,
slide all the way down as far as you can go. Then slide left, up as
far as you can go, left, to an ice block, down to another, left
again to the wall and down all the way to the stairs down to
another Floor 2 (B) Floor 2 B bottom left chest contains a
[CHIMAERA WING], the top right chest is empty, and the top left one
contains [5 GOLD]. Here's how to reach them. From the stairs, slide
up, left down and left to reach the chest in the bottom left
corner. Then, slide right twice, and up twice and you can slide
left and up one step to the chest in the upper left corner. The
third chest is empty, so it's back to the stairs. Slide down, right
twice, and down to the bottom wall and then right to the stairs.
When back on Floor 1, slide up and right and down to reach the
hole, and you'll be back on Floor 2 A. ------------Route to Boss
------------From the stairs, slide down twice, and then left to the
ice block and up, then right to another block and down. From here
it's a straight line to the stairs up to the boss floor. Ground
Floor (Boss) From the stairs slide left to the ice block, down to
the wall, left to another block, down to the wall and left one step
to a block. Then slide up, left, down to the wall and right, and
from here you can head straight up to the waiting dwarf.
o---------------------o | B O S S - DWIGHT |
o---------------------o Rewards: 105 experience, 50 Gold. You might
also get a Magic Water from him if
you've nearly run out of MP. This isn't really much of a fight,
as Dwight doesn't use any spells, and will just heal himself when
he's lost a lot of HP. Keep hitting him and keep healed. Now, the
REAL boss will turn up. o---------------------------o | B O S S -
WINTER QUEEN | o---------------------------o Rewards: 650
Experience, 200 Gold, Chimaera Wing. The Winter Queen is no
pushover, especially if you're running low on MP and don't have
many Medicinal Herbs left. You can only control Hero so you've got
to rely on Saber and Honey being sensible, though Saber only has
two options: attack or defend. If you've got sufficient MP to spare
from healing, then Hero can use the Buff spell to protect a bit,
but I didn't. The Cool Breath attack will hurt you and Saber for
around 15 HP or more depending on levels and equipment, but Honey
won't be damaged as much. Sometimes she will take a deep breath on
one turn and on the next do her powerful magic attack, so you can
defend if you wish to decrease the damage. Crack is a one person
ice attack for around 20 HP. Hope that Honey uses Kasap or Dazzle,
but if she doesn't there's not much you can do about that. The
Queen also heals herself when her HP is getting low, so you'll know
there's not much longer to go! After the battle Dwight the White
Dwarf departs, and you can open the two treasure chests. The left
one has a [BOOMERANG] and the right has the [HERALD OF SPRING]
item. Now you have to get out of there as a Chimaera Wing won't
work. Slide down and right, then up and right to reach the stairs.
In the next room head down, then right, down and then left, and
down again to reach the entrance. Once you return to Faerie Lea you
can't sleep in the inn again as everyone knows you've been
successful in your quest, so that's the end of your access here for
some time. ------------------------------Final Events and a
Knick-Knack! ------------------------------Enter the tree place and
go upstairs to find Treacle in the throne room. Talk to her, and
Honey will give you a branch. After a pause for some pretty action,
you'll be back in Whealbrook. Head up the stairs, and after getting
a message from Sancho about dad, go to leave, and Sancho will stop
you. He will put the flowering branch in your room. Follow him, and
take the [BLOOMING BRANCH] knick-knack. Go to the church as usual,
no doubt expecting to save your game, and you'll find that Pankraz
is there. You can save after talking to him, and then meet up at
the town gate. NOTES: Blooming Branch and Purple Stranger I had
thought that if you miss the Blooming Branch now, there's no chance
to get it later, but in fact you can. It is found inside the
basement room of Sancho's house. See the Knick-Knacks section in
the lists for more details. By the way, the purple stranger has
gone by this point, so if you missed talking to him the chance is
gone forever... Fortunately, this doesn't matter at all. The game
is designed so you cannot mess up. Anything you have to do,
you'll be able to, and anything you don't have to do, well,
you'll find out what happens eventually.

Pankraz leads you and your cat to Coburg, and all the way to the
King's throne room. At this point you're told to go off and amuse
yourself. The room above the King is guarded and the two side doors
lead out to the roof, so to save yourself trouble, just head down
the stairs and take the door to the right. At the end of this hall
is another door and in here you'll find Prince Harry. Agree to be
his lackey, (you don't really get any choice about this), and then
explore the castle. You need to talk to everyone before events will
proceed. That's the queen and Wilbur, the Chamberlain who's found
on a balcony on the roof, the people in the kitchen, the guards,
and a nun. Head to the dining room (up the stairs at the left of
the entrance hall) for some revealing information from all three
people. (There's a blue locked door here which you'll be able to
open when you
get the Castle Key a bit later in the game.) There's a [SEED OF
MAGIC] in the left chest in the church's bedroom, but nothing else
in any drawers or pots. You'll know when you've spoken to everyone
because Pankraz will have gone when you return to see the king.
(He's always running off.) Now you'll find that you've got to make
friends with Harry. Go back down the stairs and take the door to
the right that leads to Harry's room, and you'll find Pankraz.
Enter Harry's room and talk to him. Now he's a little more pleasant
and you can open the chest in the next room, but it's empty. He's
playing silly buggers. He's not in his room, but if you check the
spot where he was standing (to the right of the door next to the
table with a plant pot) there is a secret passage. You'll find
Harry in the hall below, but so does someone else. Follow them
through the door to the right and watch the scene. Go back inside
and make your way back up to the hall where Pankraz is waiting. The
route is: out to the garden, back into the kitchen, left, up the
stairs, right into the circular hall and right again. Speak to
Pankraz and follow him, first into Harry's room and then down the
secret stair. He disappears through the door leading to the river
and then around the corner of the castle and out of view. First
time I spent ages searching the river for him... Anyway, don't
bother with that, and return to the town. You'll find an itinerant
armour salesman by the bridge to the castle, and can buy some
better defensive gear. Might be a good idea to invest in Iron
Armour if you can afford it. Time to raid the town, except there's
nothing to find, although the girl by the bridge tells you about a
ruin near town. I think we guessed that already. Dad has
disappeared again, so all you can do is leave town, and find the
Ancient Ruins. Pankraz doesn't mess about and is hot on the trail,
and you need to catch up with him fast.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------TASK
: Find Pankraz, then find Harry.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------Items
: 180 Gold, Antidotal Herb, T'n'T Ticket, Seed of Strength, Monster

enemies: 001 Slime, 030 Healslime, 031 Screwball Pitcher, 033
Sizzard, 037 Slime Knight, 038 Bag o' Laughs, 039 Brownie,
------------------------------------------------------------------------------There
are lots of enemy groups on the way to the Ancient Ruins and if you
are having any trouble with them, then fight a while, and use a
Chimera Wing to zoom back to Coburg to heal and replenish supplies.
The inn only costs 12 gold for the two of you, so it's worth while.
If you run into lots of Slime Knights and Healslimes then you could
have a tussle to defeat them all, since not only do they heal each
other, but the Slime Knights will drain your magic. Don't enter the
cave without MP or Medicinal Herbs. Try to be around level 12 for
hero and 10 for Saber. Head south of the castle to skirt around the
mountains, and then east towards
the coast, and north until you see a purple pond with a sign
stuck in it. Avoid that poisonous water and go north to find the
cave opening to the north east of the pond. Remember that you
cannot use a Chimaera Wing inside a dungeon, and you'll have to
walk out if you want to leave. One warning, after teaming up with
Pankraz you won't be allowed to leave the Ruins.
--------------Finding Pankraz --------------There is nothing to
find, and no enemies, in the entrance room, so carry on into the
next area where you'll see Pankraz about to fight three enemies.
You cannot reach him yet, and will have to find a route around the
paths. Walk right and follow the path until you can go right again
across a small bridge. Head down the path at the crossroads, and
there is a set of stairs. Take these and walk up to open the first
treasure chest containing [180 GOLD COINS). Then, return to the
stairs and go back up to the crossroads. This time walk right and
up the next set of stairs. Keep going until you end up back on the
ground again, where there is a second chest with an [ANTIDOTAL
HERB]. There is another set of stairs opposite you, but ignore
these and walk up to a door. Go inside and chat to the bad men
there. They won't attack. Break the barrels and the second one from
the right has a [T'N'T TICKET]. Leave the room through the door and
walk up and all the way around the building, heading back down
keeping next to the far right wall. At the corner go left, and nip
inside the open doorway for the third chest (SEED OF STRENGTH].
Then, go up the set of stairs. This takes you to a wider path that
leads up to a double wooden doors. Go through here into an area
with water. (Don't bother heading up along the eastern path as
there is nothing to find.) Turn left and down the stairs and back
down the screen, and you'll be in a narrow path between sets of
pillars. Follow this to the left, and through the open doorway that
leads to the room with Pankraz and the enemies. You might want to
heal up before joining in the battle, but it's not necessary. Once
he joins you, and after beating up the monsters (a Slime Knight,
Dracky and Prestidigitator), you can take your time and find all
the treasure if you missed any. In fact, you can even return here
later in the game and you'll find a wandering warrior to talk to,
though no enemies. -------Waterway -------With Pankraz in the team
now, walk forwards onto the small square in the middle of the area
and this will open the door ahead. Go through the door into the
Waterway. You cannot control Pankraz but he's fast and furious and
battles are easy from now on. Hop on the handy raft and move off to
the left and down the screen to find a chest with [MONSTER
MUNCHIES]. Keep going up following the channel as it zigzags to the
top right of the room, and let Pankraz do all the work! You could
spend a fair bit of time fighting with him before progressing the
story, as he will heal you as well as dispatching all enemies.
There is another chest by the north wall, with the useful [ELFIN
ELIXIR] which heals all MP. Keep heading right and you'll see that
you are back at the area where you walked before meeting Pankraz.
Hop off here if you want to retrieve any treasure left behind.
Ride the raft up the room under the overhang and events will
take over. You'll end up with Prince Harry in your team, and lose
Pankraz. Not a fair exchange, a level 1 brat to look after, and you
cannot control him in battle. He is equipped with a Bronze Knife
and Prince's Outfit, not that it makes any difference. Hop back on
the raft and ride back down to the main cave. There are no more
enemies to fight, and in fact there's a short cut to save trudging
around all those pathways again. Sail all the way to the lower left
of the waterways, to where you found the treasure chest with the
Monster Munchies. Stop on the island to the right of this chest and
there is a doorway between two torches in the right wall. This
takes you back to the area near the entrance. Go through the
opening and you're nearly out of the Ruins, but then...
o---------------------------o | B O S S - BISHOP LADJA |
o---------------------------o Not really a boss battle, because
this is one you can't win. As soon as hero loses all his HP, it's
over. Just don't waste any healing items, especially that precious
Elfin Elixir. After this, stuff happens, and there is a battle with
Slon the Rook and Kon the Knight. Not so good, but this is the end
of the Childhood (Generation One) section of the game.

SLAVE QUARRY
------------------------------------------------------------------------------TASK
: Find Harry and Maria's brother. Sleep. Fight. Escape.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------It's
now 10 years later, and you start in somewhat inauspicious
circumstances, to say the least. You have no items, no equipment
besides Serf Wear, and your status might be described as near
death, with 1 HP and no MP. The good news is that you've kept your
levels, and you can control Hero. Hero is likely to be at Level
11/12. You're in a large area with many guards and slaves, however,
they don't seem to bother you too much and you can walk around and
chat to anyone with impunity. Walk up the ramp and under the
archway, and then climb either set of stairs up to a large area out
in the open. There's a grand view of mountains, but you're not here
to sight-see. Walk down the area to the right and you'll find a
green haired Harry for a brief review of the last ten years. After
chatting to him, walk left and you'll find a small hole in the
floor. Go down these stairs and talk to the soldier you'll find
there. (If you head down the room through the opening and then left
through another, you'll end up in a graveyard and the next room is
a prison, with nothing to find.) Return to the open air platform,
and it will be the end of the day's work. You'll awaken in full
health and locked inside a sleeping area with other slaves. You
have to talk to every single one of them, even the ones apparently
still sleeping, to progress the story. Once everyone has left
the
