Project Name: Swan Street Structure PlanClient: Yarra City Council, Melbourne

Local Area Plans

I project managed the production of this Structure Plan for the Swan Street Precinct, an inner urban neighbourhood experiencing significant development pressure in an ever-expanding Melbourne.

The Structure Plan aimed to manage growth to enhance liveability and sustainability in the Precinct and to stimulate local economic and social needs. The key objective was to guide change, finding an appropriate balance between the preservation and enhancement of the areas’ rich heritage while accommodating an appropriate amount of development intensification. It included detailed built form guidance on how to achieve this.

Project Name: Frankston Health and Education Precinct Land Use and Built Form StrategyClient: Frankston City Council, Melbourne

Local Area Plans

The purpose of this project was to direct and guide future growth within this Precinct in Frankston, a suburb that experiences distinct socio-economic issues. The Precinct has strong demand for the expansion of its existing health and education facilities, which are of strategic importance to the wider Frankston area.

This work provided land use and built form guidelines that established a vision and provided planning certainty to focus investment and change across the Precinct into the future. As project manager, my role involved on the ground analysis, creation of plans and drafting land use and built form guidelines

Project Name: Morrisons Island Urban Design StudyClient: Mitchells & Associates, Cork

Local Area Plans

I conducted a study focusing on Morrison’s Island, a neglected part of Cork City Centre that has fallen into disrepair. The study incorporated detailed analysis, concept development and final design solutions aimed at unlocking the area’s distinct potential and rediscovering its lost vitality and vibrancy.

Project Name: Dandenong Road Urban Design FrameworkClient: City of Stonnington Council, Melbourne

Urban Design Framework

I project managed the creation of this Urban Design Framework which sought to advise the Council on an appropriate built form outcome that should arise from development of this precinct in the middle suburbs of Melbourne.

Any strategy would have to balance the obvious development potential of this area and its strategic location with safeguarding the character and amenity of the residential hinterland. It concluded with a set of urban design guidelines for the precinct which in turn the Council used to propose new planning controls.

My role involved analysis of the existing and emerging built form, drafting of plans, creation of a 3D model and the drafting of urban design guidelines.

Urban Design Framework

Project Name: Brunswick Built Form FrameworkClient: Moreland City Council

Brunswick, an inner urban district in Melbourne, has experienced significant evolution in its built form due to increased development pressures/opportunities. The increased densification has led to a perception of diminished quality in the amenity of many of these developments.

I carried out research, analysis, 3D modelling and documentation on the impacts of this evolving built form. This work lead to the creation of design guidelines focusing on preferred block and building layouts to inform future Council policy

1:2,000 @ A3DEVELOPMENT PLAN - OPTION 1

Project Name: Clancy Road Residential Subdivision PlanClient: Clancy Family

Masterplanning

Located in a town in rural Australia, this masterplan was created around a concept of creating a family legacy for the town of Kilmore. It sought to maximise the sites’ natural environmental features, creating a high quality residential neighbourhood offering a variety of plot types and sizes.

My role started with the drafting of a number of different concept options and layouts and ended with the production of the final masterplan.

Page 9: Draft Portfolio 08.04.15

Project Name: Kinross Avenue Concept PlanClient: Megan Schulz Developments

Masterplanning

I project managed the creation of this concept plan to subdivide land that had previously contained a social club. The challenge lay in achieving an adequate yield to make the project worthwhile while integrating the proposed development into the existing character of of Edithvale, a suburban residential neighbourhood on the outskirts of Melbourne.

My role started with an assessment of the potential yield achievable on the site, through the drafting of a number of different potential layout configurations and ended with the production of the final concept plan.

Masterplanning

Project Name: Lucheche Road Layout PlanClient: Mbala Municipal Council

I guided the Mbala Municipal Council Planning Department through the drafting of this masterplan for the creation of this new mixed-use neighbourhood.

It was the first time such a plan had been done ‘in-house’ by the Council. Together we created a methodological template involving in-depth analysis and concept development stages which will guide the creation of future masterplans throughout the Northern Province of Zambia.

URBAN DESIGN PRINCIPLES2. Development should be residential in character to reinforce the prevailing land use of the area.

Planning Application Supporting Documentation

Project Name: 174 Ormond Road Urban Context ReportClient: Circa Property Group

The purpose of this report was to document the key characteristics of the subject site and its context that should influence its development from an urban design perspective while also to explain how the proposed development responds to this context.

I prepared the text and mapping for this 26 page document which was submitted to the Council as a supporting document accompanying the planning application.

Planning Application Supporting Documentation

92-96 Albert Road, Brunswick East, Melbourne

Advice was given on the urban design aspects of the following different development proposals. Often this was given prior to the lodgement of a planning application with the Council but mostly it was sought as a result of a refusal of planning permission, with a view to appealing the decision at the planning tribunal. In that instance our services would be engaged by the clients’ legal team as expert witnesses. Advice was generally focused on the areas of character, internal amenity issues, off-site amenity issues and impact on the public realm. I prepared detailed urban design analyses of the proposals which were submitted as evidence at the subsequent oral hearing.
