Important points

Regularity of data and its availability and accessibility. Facing data Irregularity. MICS as one of the options as well as the Administrative Based

Stat (cost effective analysis). Low-cost vs reliability. Creation of Data Base.

Progress made Identifying the availability of indicators; available and

accessible, available but not accessible yet, cannot be accessible, not available, difficult to know.

Identifying data source, numerator and denominator, & periodical dissemination.

Identifying responsible entity, data source, arrangements, & metadata.

Identification the availability of classifications (disaggregation) required.

study of additional resources such as Big Data.

Current action

Get the values of the available indicators. Prepare a plan to re-arrange the indicators according to the

data producer. Hold meeting with each producer with their partner in CAPMAS

to build awareness concerning SDGs and to reveal the potential possibility of collecting data (at low cost or without extra cost).

Human Capacity Building. Start Big data project (first one), and ready for the third one as

soon as the support is available. SDU get access to all information relating to SDG 2030.

Big Data First Project: Price Collecting of Commodity for indexes numbers

Establishment of partnership between CAPMAS and data sources. Send a list of major groups of goods required to hypermarkets and

Commodity prices have been received by the Internet from the resources from the month of December 2015.

Goal 2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture. The Zero Hunger Challenge – Food prices and the market. Target 8.

Third Project: Targeting Agricultural areas to measure Crop Production.

Harnessing social applications, especially those in agriculture areas, to obtain SDG and SDS indicators.

Main objective: identify types of agricultural crops and estimate green areas by satellite images and the production of agricultural geographical maps, through the geographic information systems management.

Goal 2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture. Target 3 & 4.

What will be done: Future actions

Develop coordination and communication plan to serve cooperation between SDU and the relevant departments in CAPMAS & their counterpart in government bodies.

Build up a sustainable data-base to obtain indicators on national, regional & international level.

R raising awareness of the importance of SDG in CAPMAS through all available tools. Link data-bases from different entities to database will be build in SDU. Coordination between SDU data-base and (METDATA) system to develop over all

system. Capacity Building for SDU is helping to keep them up with the requirements of

sustainable development goals through participation in workshops, seminars, forums and conferences at the national, regional and international.

roadmap Implementation to be flexible and responsive, based on broad consultation.

Challenges

Filling up the gaps: Gaps related to the availability of data (violence is not available for all

members of society), Gaps related to use of data effectively, Gaps related to required details (DHS only includes disability for children

aged 0-9), Gaps related to methodology (differing methodologies used to obtain same

indicators), Gaps related to capacity building, Gaps related to use of administrative registers

Provide resources to produce the indicators. Preparation and implementation of the national strategy for the development of

National statistical system. Build partnerships with stakeholders to consolidate full cooperation for

Administrative-Based Statistics.

Page 12: Dr. Rehab Abdelgalil• 2016 IFPRI Egypt Seminar Series: Measuring and Monitoring SDGs in Egypt

Ensure reliable statistical data Censuses and sample surveys are costly and require a

minimal level of statistical capacity that is available mainly in CAPMAS.

Estimates not available at sub-national or other disaggregation level for some indicators.

Forecasting data are needed faster than what sample surveys can produce.

Data innovation (big data and new technologies).
