Alcoholics Anonymous has 12 essential steps for members to follow – one of the steps says that addicts have “sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood him, praying only for knowledge of his will for us and the power to carry that out.”
But although some people think of AA as a religious approach, it is actually a spiritual approach to living. Spiritual discipline and character development are emphasized, including humility, confession, amends, forgiveness, acceptance, ongoing moral inventories and being of service to others.
